Hey everyone! I need some help identifying an object I found in Asotin county, Washington on the banks of the snake river. I believe the object is a bone. looks like one end of a femur to me but I'm just guessing. It's probably from a cow or horse, but it's really heavy, like it's petrified or water logged, leading me to wonder how old it is. I have never seen anything quite like it, myself. Any input would be amazing. Please and thank you.

Bone found in Bolivar Peninsula, Texas .. about 2 miles down from Mcfaddin Beach. I have found many bones over the years in this area. Have identified some as possible bison? Teeth, leg bones, etc. I love finding these treasures and become somewhat obsessed with finding out, “what is this?” Any help much appreciated! Thanks!

Discovered an intriguing tooth in an Austin, TX creek. Unsure if it's from a bison, cow, or horse. Any insights appreciated!

Hello everybody,i'm James, I live in Portsmouth ohio and found a large trace fossil a year ago and it is so interesting to find fossils. I have no professional stance on the Paleo field, it's just a hobby that holds my interest. I found a big bone in my backyard digging, it was very large and for some sick reason I hoped it was a human bones...ikr! Turns out I guess it's a bison ankle LMBO. I want to see if you guys can tell whether or not this is an actual fossil or a new ...cow ankle..its not dark but pretty white...but it looks fossilized to my u familier eyeballs. . Thanks guys.

Hello everyone, I went to visit family this past week in Gilmer County, West Virginia and found these mammal teeth in a creek. They were found pretty close to each other, which makes me wonder if they were from the same animal. They appear to be old, but I don’t think they are completely mineralized. They remind me a lot of the bison teeth I find down in Peace River, FL, but this is weird considering there are no cow or buffalo farms very close to the area I found these (that I know of). Anyone have any idea what these are, why they’re here, and how old they could be?

I was on a hike with my boyfriend yesterday along a lake in Central Alberta, Canada when we came across this bone in the river. I know some of the discourse of using the stylid as an identification tool to differentiate between cows and bison but I can’t seem to figure this one out! Please let me know!

Wondering if the experts wouldn't mind weighing in on an ID for these. They were found half-submerged in a spring creek near an old cow pasture and they seem to be in at least the beginning stages of mineralization. They don't quite pass the burn test though I've heard that's not necessarily definitive, and they're quite rock-like - the pieces I used for the test make a nice clink when dropped on cement. My question is mostly whether or not, in these conditions, the process of mineralization could occur in 100 years or less (which is about the length of time the land had been used as pasture), making them "pre-old" as I've read is possible in other threads. As per the sticky thread, the creek in question is in the driftless area of Minnesota. Also I can provide measurements if that would help, but I'm under the impression that cow and buffalo femurs are too similar for that to make much difference. Thanks!

Hello, I was fossil hunting a creek in north Florida yesterday and along with finding what I believe is our first meg out of this creek, we found a strange tooth that I believe is bovine or camel. (This is in inches, I couldn't find my tape measure- 1 inch~2 1/2 cm)

Hi all, The subject of these photos may not be very interesting--I assume they are cow teeth (though do tell me if I'm wrong). But I am curious about the approximate age. I found these along the north shore of the Thames in London at low tide. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, H

Hello everyone. I am new to the site.I was hoping for some help identifying a humerus bone I found on our ranch located in south west ND. I was searching for points along the Cannonball River that runs through our property in a low water crossing. I seen the bone barely exposed at the water line. The bone was roughly 15 ft below the top of the river bank. We have teepee rings nearby and I have found multiple artifacts in this location. I have found many bones but never any at this depth under the soil. Any help would be appreciated. I am thinking its a left bison humerus but was hoping for some clarification between cattle or bison. There is also some marks on the bone that i am wondering if they could be from a knife or have been made from breaking down the animal. Thanks everyone.

Kayaked out early this morning and had the beach all to myself. The water was a little rough when I got there but by the time low tide had come around the bay flattened out and the water cleared up. I found some Hemis with some real nice size, and got really lucky with 3 cow shark teeth. Then the usual spread of teeth and a nice little retroflexus. Great day out on the bay!

Hey guys! Found this medial Phalanx yesterday - and can’t figure out if it’s cow and thus modern, or bison and thus a fossil. It’s heavier than modern bones I’ve found but I wouldn’t say it’s rock solid/fully mineralized yet. Measures 47mm long by 25mm wide. @Harry Pristis I was looking at your comparison for them and can’t tell any discernible differences, any idea which this may be?

I was just checking to make sure, I found this in a dredge in Florida a while back (definitely the best condition mammal from the dredge). Is it bison, or some huge llama, or even cow. Thanks!

Hi all, I found this tooth that washed out of the Charleston Harbor in South Carolina that is ~3 inches long and ~2 inches wide. I was wondering if someone could help me with an ID on it? Thinking it may be horse, bison, or cow, but those are just guesses so any help would be appreciated!

Greetings, I found this bone on property where cattle used to feed and where bison were native to. This was found in the side bank of a washout and roughly 1 ft below surface grade. A friend went to track for it and it snapped upon grabbing it and the other portion is still buried. It is currently frozen so I am unable to dig further into the bank to reveal more of the bone. It appears to be fairly old and the inside is hollowed out. I was wondering if anyone may be able to identify it based on side and shape. Please let me know what your thoughts are.

This tooth was found in a creek in Washington county, MO. Can someone verify if this is a buffalo or cow tooth.

Hey folks! I found this tooth while walking through the castle river in southern Alberta, in the mountains. It was lying on the river gravels; the river is very low currently and would normally be flowing over where i found the tooth. I've read a few posts here regarding the debate of cow vs bison, I think this stylid seems to me quite prominent but, I'm no expert! Heh. Sorry about the ruler being in inches, it was the only one i could find! It doesn't seem to be fossilized at all but from wear and color I would say it is fairly old. Bison used to be in this area in pre-settler times so I feel like it could be a bison tooth from a few hundred years ago? Or I'm hoping? Hahaha. Any help would be amazing!!

Hello. A quick introduction. I have been walking the kaw for decades and have amassed a collection of artifacts and bones. What I have not amassed is the ID skills, especially between bison and cow. There are hints in the area I hunt that at one time, long ago, a butchery that either has eroded off the bank or they discarded items into the river. Guessing it was near Grantville, Kansas. So it can be a bit confusing for me between that and how the river deposits in general can age at different rates depending on where they’ve been hiding out. I really look forward to getting to know the items I have and some of you! My goal is to start pairing down my collection. I want to be accurate and honest about what I am presenting and not just going on Google guessing. Thanks for any help and if there are things I can do to improve my postings in the future please feel free to push this newb around and set me straight. Thank you. and now, the first bone. Am I correct in thinking this is a tibia? Is there a sure way to know if it’s bison or cow?

Hi all I’m new here. My son found today this tooth in a sandy brookside in Switzerland. First I thought it’s from a cow. But then I was searching google pictures and I was confused. Could ist be a fossile? Can someone help? Thank you!
