Olequa Creek (A tusk shell makes me pull my hair out)

Crossed the creek at a small park in Vader, WA to look for shells. The shale here is very porous, very sandy, and very very fragile. The shells here are plentiful, but break very easily. You can break the rocks apart by hand, but whatever is in them usually breaks too. I lucked out and found a very intact tusk shell. Although not rare, they are usually found as fragments. Getting it home and ready was a hassle. It broke in half before I got it home, and pieces of it broke off 3 seperate times while prepping it (About half of it was still covered by shale). As you can see, thanks to superglue it didn't defeat me! Dentalium stramineum Priscofusus cowlitzensis

The Lincoln Creek Formation exposure a half hour from my house was recently rendered inaccessible, so I've been looking for new areas by my house where I can find paleogene material. I read that the town of Vader, WA has some Cowlitz formation exposures, and sure enough I found some nice fossiliferous bluffs along Olequa creek. My trip was mostly just a scouting mission, but I did find a nice little Priscofusus cowlitzensis.
