I found this one yesterday. I recently got back into the hobby of rock tumbling and was looking for rocks for that when I came across a few fossils in a creek bed in North Central Arkansas, USA. This one resembles a "pigs in a blanket" sausage wrapped with crescent dough. I thought the inside was just dirt and mud but it is solid. It is 2 inches at the longest point. The hole is approximately an inch in diameter.

I found this is a creek bed in north central Arkansas recently. Seems to be sandstone type material. It is 2 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inch wide at the widest part. It is hollow all the way to the end. I find some arrowheads and other Native American relics in the same area so wasn't sure if it's a fossil or a relic of some kind.

While I find interest in every fossil my daughter and I find, I’m feeling a bit frustrated at finding only Crinoids. Yes, I think they’re cool, and I don’t want to be ungrateful, but I’m getting a bit discouraged.. I’d like to find something other than a Crinoid. Now, admittedly, I only know certain places to look, so that’s why I’m reaching out for help. We’ve primarily looked in creek beds, and along the trails we walk. I’m in Boone County, MO. Can anyone give us any tips on other places to look where we might find something other than a Crinoid? We’re new to fossil hunting, so honestly any tips you have will be well received and we’d be so grateful for them. Thank you in advance. (photos for attention.)

I’ve got 4 fossils, or steinkerns, I’m needing help identifying, all on the same rock. Found in a creek bed in Boone County, MO. I believe it to be from the Mississippian Era. I believe those labeled one and two are Bryozoan Archimedes. Number one (the biggest of the two) measures at a little over 1/4th of an inch. Number two measures at almost exactly (slightly over) 1/4th of an inch. Number three I’m thinking is part of a stem of a Crinoid? Can anyone confirm or deny this for me? The fourth is, what I believe to be, a steinkern of a possible tooth? Like, a tooth laid there at one point, and the impression was left behind? It measures at exactly 1/2 inch. (Due to file restrictions on pix, I will upload some pix in the comments.)

I found this in a creek bed in New jersey, an amateur fossil site (I don't remember the name, but you could apparently find megaladon teeth at the site.) It is 3.5 inches long, and is a lightweight, hollow fossil. It has two holes and an arch on the larger end of the fossilHere's some pictures (sorry about camera quality, I'm doing this on a kindle)

Missouri ordovacian period. What are the raised oval fossils? Are they brachiopods that have been worn down? Something else? Thanks for your thoughts. This entire rock is about 10 inches long.

Sending a new fossil I found in Southeaster US, SC Summerville area. Found in a creek that had many different formations in it. Im still learning them but looks possibly like plant life fossil. Not sure what but looking sideways I can see the distinction between the rock portion and what I am trying to identify. Any help would be great! Side angle.

Hello. I am new to fossil hunting. I've found a few in the past, but on this hunt while in a creek bed I found this one. Can anyone tell me what I found? Is it worth looking in the same creek bed? I am in Upstate NY.

Help with ID on small tube-like fossils or geological items from creek
mossyfern9564 posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hi all, I hope someone can help me ID these items I've been finding for about a year now in and by a local creek in Sullivan County, TN. I've shown them to staff at the Nature Center of a nearby park and to various others who have an interest in such things, and no one has been able to say for sure what they are. I've had theories from corals to beads to stalactites (helictites, actually) to burrow casts. All are tube-like, all have holes through them (a few have one end closed, but not many) some have a bumpy, pebbly surface and some are smooth. The biggest is 1 1/2 to 2 inches in length. The area is known for Ordovician finds, and has a lot of caves and sinkholes. I also find a lot of quartz crystals and small (< 1") geode-type rocks in this creek, and the occasional Woodland period artifact. There is an abundance of chert/flint, and unfinished knapped pieces aren't uncommon. I'm anxious to hear your theories and ideas. Thanks much.- 2 replies

I live in Des Moines Iowa, and I was down by a creek today and found this possible fossil. It looks like fossilized bone to me. However I am kind of new to this so I can't be for sure. but it feels fossilized and looks like it was bone at one point. if anyone can identify it I would be amazed and grateful, Thanks!

Fossilized bone segment found in creek bed in NE Alabama... Found near sandstone and chert in a dry creek. Definitely turned to stone... Could drive a nail and also sounds like rock when tapped. Will also add pics of other side and both ends.

Please take a look at this. It's about 8"x4"x5"... guessing. But extremely interesting. I found it in a creek bed here in Round Rock TX. What is it?
