any way to know if these two bones might come from a similar animal?

Would it be possible that these two bones would come from a similar animal? I have been told with pretty good authority the larger is a whale vertebra and am curious about the smaller, found in the same creek, 100 feet away. Also Chesapecten shells found in the same creek.

Hi all! I'm making a sudden and quick trip to Gainesville FL and will have about a day to do some fossil hunting. I have heard about the hogtown and possum creeks and will likely visit those no matter what. But I was wondering if anyone had any advice for other places to check out. I can travel a little bit out of town but won't have access to a kayak so would need to get somewhere on foot. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks and I'll post my finds after the trip!

Last year I was given some cool micro matrix from Rattlesnake Creek ,I think the age is Miocene thought to Pleistocene. It was generously given to me by the amazing @GeschWhat thanks Lori. I have only just gone through the matrix and I was not disappointed. The micro matrix was packed full of shark, ray and fish material, as well as an small bone. Here is some photos of my finds. Found this interesting fossil in Covington Country, Alabama in a creek. The material around the fossils seem to be very brittle and the fossil itself looks to me like it might be related to sand dollars, but I don't know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey, so I’m pretty new to fossil collecting, i plan to go to Green Mills Run in a few weeks after doing some reading on it. Anyways, I was wondering if it was possible to find any fossils in creeks pretty inland, or if it’s only possible close to the coast? I’m in North Carolina, near the Charlotte area, and was thinking about searching in some creeks around the area. Thanks for your help!

Complete novice here! I’ve been creek walking in the Kansas City area recently and found these two fossils (?) on sand bars at two different localities (Line Creek and Rock Creek, Jackson County). Any thoughts? And thanks in advance!

Hello, I’ve noticed something odd with some of my mazon creek fossils that I haven’t looked at in a long time. Some of them seem to have small spots developing on them that I could swear weren’t there, say, 10 years ago. Anyone have any idea what these little circles are? There are 4 on the left Tully monster right above the white paint. And 1 on the right Tully just off the lower left edge of the body. And the white paint is a whole different issue... Open to any suggestions on how to remove that too... was thinking about rubbing alcohol. And then here is a shark egg case that seems to have a LOT of the little spots/circles. Thanks for any insight.

2 neat fossils and a quartz rock from the creek today

I found this long cylinder sticking out of the creek wall few weeks ago. I had no choice , but to break it from the rock. Ended up in several pieces. I'm not quiet sure 100 percent what this is. I searched the forum, but can't figure out other than Rudist.

This is the first larger mammal tooth I came across while fossil hunting for megalodon teeth in South Carolina. Tooth was found in a stream in the general area between Charleston and Summerville along with some Meg teeth. What do you suppose this came from? Camel, horse, giant ground sloth?

Hello. I went down to local creek today and found some interesting mammal bones. These bones were found in 5 to 8 feet below the surface layer, but just above limestone gravel layer. I'm thinking this maybe some large animal, but does't think this is a cow bone since buried too deep.

Hello everyone, I've been doing some creek fossils hunting in Dallas area recently and came across/found numerous bones in pieces. Not sure what these vertebrate bones these belongs to, but they are 12 inches or smaller and looks like mostly arm or leg bones. These animal used to swim, crawl around here around 140 to 66 million years ago. Buried in Eagle Ford Shale or Austin Chalk limstone layers about 10 to 20 feet down from top to bottom in the creek layers.

Hey everyone, Recently took a trip with a buddy of mine down to South Carolina to search for megalodon teeth. We found many small teeth along with some decent sized ones. These were found in the general area between Charleston and Summerville. The ruler is imperial. Big thanks to everyone who offers their guesses Pictured are three of my biggest from the whole trip. What are they?

I found this rock while fossil hunting a devonian era stream. It looks symmetric, so i kept it. I just have no idea if its a fossil or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
