Hey everybody! Welcome to my Mazon Creek thread, where I’ll be posting pictures of various Mazon Creek finds! I’ve been hunting there for upwards of 10 years, so I have piles of uncracked nodules just waiting to be opened. So as they open, they’ll find their way here! Feel free to jump in and add your own and keep this thread going! And I’m sure there are many that have gone unidentified, so I’ll probably need some help from the experts!

I spent most of Friday at a local creek with expert friend.... We found some nice things. I got an intact goblin shark tooth about 2.4" long, and some fossil turtle bone. My kids had a great time sieving in the stream. Ammonite impressions in the mud are common; I wanted to to share the largest one I saw, as well as my largest goblin shark find. We saw some good wildlife; the kids caught a garter snake. My daughter saw a mysterious creature that jumped into the water. I took some pictures of the footprints.... a mink maybe? What do you think?

I found this bone in a ditch with no teeth marks or chewing on it. Obviously I believe this is modern as it still smelled of death and decay (I ran it under soap and boiling water and then rubbed it with sanitizer. and even then I don't touch it without a napkin) I was curious if my hypothesis was correct about this being a deer femur bone? I wasn't sure because I'm no bone expert but maybe someone here knows, all I know is we have deer, bears, cougars and possibly elk or moose but that would be rare. This was found in a creek by Murdock beach Washington State on the Olympic Peninsula (temperate rain forest conditions near large ocean.)

Last summer my youngest son found a lot of very nice fossils at Trussells Creek, Alabama (including a mosasaur and croc (I think) teeth) (My kids are much better at fossil hunting than me! They have sharp eyes and can find tiny things!) I wanted to share his best find of the trip- a huge partial tooth of a shell-crushing shark; it is next to a smaller one he also found. It is 1.75" across at the widest. I am planning to go with them next time!

Wanted to take advantage of the good weather and went to the creek on my farm to see if I could find anything good. The creek is located on a farm in Northern Kentucky, located in a small valley amongst the hills. As soon as I reached the creek and knelt down, I spotted this beautiful specimen and instantly recognized the shape and tapering. I can’t find any septa on it though. I find an abundance of bryozoans, brachiopods and crinoid stems. Few weeks ago, found a fragment of orthocone and had it verified on here. This is only my second and so are pretty rare on our land. Just wanted to show you all, make sure 100% it’s the real deal since you all know much, much more than I. Don’t want to keep a rock or petrified ice cream cone around.

So today I was going to try to get in the Peace for a bit. I know where some gravel beds are that you can get in when the water isn't quite as low as you want. I messed around for about an hour but then it just wasnt paying off. One good hemi and everything else was just jar teeth. So I packed up and headed to my old stand by spot. Did pretty good but also put in a lot of hours. *In the pic the top is a section of mammoth tooth it is hard to tell looking at the pic now.

Need some help ID’ing these two. They are from Walnut Creek in Austin Texas. Both were found in rock beds a few feet from the water. The white one is about 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall. The other is a little over an inch both ways.

Hi all, I found this jaw section with the help of a friend on a trip to SW Florida last week. It was found on the bank of the creek with other land and marine fossils. Any ideas on what it came from? Thanks Jesse

Finding Plentiful and Colorful Shark Teeth in Florida!
WILDKYLE posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Hey TFF Members! If you saw the last video I shared, we took our buddy Bob from Canada out Echinoid hunting in Yankeetown recently. He was in town for a few days so we also had a chance to take him shark tooth hunting! We didn't find anything huge, but we found a lot of really great fossils. The teeth here are very colorful and there are a lot of them. Of course, this video isn't lacking in Cris and I's strange shenanigans Even though we didn't find anything insane, it was an amazing day spent with great people, and we found tons of cool fossils. This beats a day at the office any day! Give it a watch if you are interested and have some time -
I found this fossil a few weeks ago. It was in a creek bed that flows during the wet season but has pools in the dry. I know the creek has sandstone, but it also looks like it has limestone and possibly slate. There is also a lot of rocks containing rust. This fossil appears to be stained with it. I am located in Western Kentucky near Hopkinsville. One side looks like it is ribs. The other side is smooth and one part is unusually round. There are pockets that appear to be filled with sediment that has solidified into rock. I've added pictures from all sides and others with measurements. I will add them as replies since the files are too large. I wish I had more, but this is all I have.

This past Sunday Mrs. beachbum and myself went out jcbshark (Jeff) , shellseeker (Jack) , and Dan. jcbshark ( thanks Jeff) took us to a creek near Arcadia, FL. which we haven't been to in a couple of years and showed us a different area to hunt there. The weather was great and the water to our surprise was warm. The water in the areas we hunted varied in depth from ankle deep to chest high, but since the air temp was perfect for the day we didn't mind at all. The variety of finds was outstanding. We ended up with some firsts for us, a partial bison tooth ( thanks Jack for the id) , horse incisor . We also found a gator scute, deer tine and a bunch of shark teeth ( hemi's, mako's ,tigers) , gator teeth, a couple of verts , and others. Thanks to Jeff and the others for a fun and enjoyable day in the creek.

Brand new to fossils here, and hope I’m following the rules of this forum. I recently collected some rocks from the creek behind my house in for my fish tank. I noticed that one of them has fossilized remains (I’m not sure I’m using the correct terminology here). More specifically, this was collected at (38.8069171, -77.1493230) on the surface of the creek bed in Alexandria, VA. The surrounding rocks were of all colors, shapes, and sizes. I’ve taken a picture and used my unsightly finger for scale. Could anyone inform me of what I’m seeing? I tried some google searches but was admittedly unsure how to search for this. Thank you!

So one is obviouly a shell or I think its a shell, the other looks like a dragon fly wing but that is just to my untrained eye. The other has a lot of small things on it.

Hello! I'm new to the forum and have a fossil I need some help with. I am very familiar with crinoids, as I grew up in north-central Alabama and they're everywhere. However, I'm not sure what this one is. It was found in Blount County, AL in a creek. Here are photos of the entire piece with two areas circled, and a couple of closer-ups. The bit in the upper left of the first photo looks like plant material to me, but I'm not sure about the rest. I'm happy to provide more photos or info if it would help. Thanks for your help!

Found this while sifting in a creek in Summerville SC and it resembles a tooth as far as I can tell. Definitely worn down and root broken off so ID is difficult, but it looks like a damaged whale tooth, but was wondering if that's an accurate guess.

Megalodon Hunting with First Time Hunter, but Long-Time YouTuber!
WILDKYLE posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Hey guys! Our buddy Jake (DALLMYD on YouTube) hit us up to take him on his first ever Megalodon Shark Tooth Hunt! So we took him out a couple weeks ago and did our best to make sure he had a successful day! We ended up with some pretty awesome finds by the end of it. Sounds like he's hooked and will be coming back to hunt fossils again. You'll notice a change in the quality on this video. Jake let us use a lot of their footage for ours as well, so huge thanks to him and his camera man Justin for that! -
Hey y'all! @Cris and I went out for another Megalodon Shark tooth hunt and I am happy to say the Fossil God's decided to bless me greatly, but unfortunately did not decide to bless Cris Now our friendship is on the line but I guess it is okay because I have fossils. Bahahaa! Check out the video if you're interested and get some time and if you wanna watch Cris try to steal my fossils. Such great times!
