Here's our finds from two trips this month (9/3 & 24). When Mrs. Beachbum and I want to go out for a couple of hours, we head up to Gainesville to our go to creek. It's not very wide, maybe 4' tops, and it's pretty shallow ,a couple of inches. If you want a work out, this is the creek to go to. It has plenty of sand , a few gravel bars, limestone close to the surface and a few spots that are knee deep. Working a long handle shovel through the sand to get to the gravel in this creek is hit or miss. These last two trips have been a hit for us as you can see. We ended up with some really nice finds. A whale vert, whale tooth ( thanks to macrophyseter and fifbrindacier for the id) , deer tooth ( thanks to harry pristis for the id) , a nice mako, a bunch of hemi's , my best meg to date from this creek, pieces of ray barbs and more. Who says you can't enjoy the outdoors while tooth hunting.

I found the following samples today in northeastern Mississippi at the Cretaceous park site. I'm curious what the little fossilized designs in item 1 are. And I'm thinking item 3 may be a tooth of sorts? I also found this tooth and was wondering if it was a modern deer tooth, or fossilized something? Does anyone have any advice on how to tell?

I recently made my way down to my local creek in a suburb oh Chattanooga, TN. I've always thought I was hunting in Ordovician limestone, but now I'm pretty convinced I'm hunting in early Mississippian chert due to a few species I've found at this location. I didn't take pictures of what I consider my more "rare" finds but once I get a chance to I'll post them on this thread. I mainly find crinoid stems at this location, but I sometimes find rugosa corals, which are more uncommon.

Me and a friend of mine were looking for fossils in a creek here in Austin Texas today when he stumbled upon this vertebrae. Any ideas what it once belonged to? Thanks

I found this in a creek bed here in Austin Texas. I moved it because I thought it was a piece of concrete and it was in the way of me looking through the gravel bar. Then I noticed the weird honeycomb patterns. Actually it's more like a big honey comb. It looks kind of like a filter so I'm assuming it's some sort of filter feeder. Am I way off? Any ideas? Thank's!

Hi, I live in the Memphis, TN area, and I am wondering if there is anywhere local to find some fossils. I am new to the hobby, and I'm not very picky on what I'm hunting for. I have heard about finding gravel bars on the Mississippi River, and also nonconnah creek. I'm not sure where to start looking at either location. Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!

I spent about an hour digging a cut bank of Nonconnah creek in south Shelby county along the Mississippi Tennessee border just south of Memphis. I was told not to get my hopes up, but I think I may have found a few fossils! The item marked 3 is cylindrical and about 1cm long. I'm not sure about the large item with the pen cap for scale. The entire thing is about the size of a baseball, wasn't sure if the hole on top was just that, or possibly an eye of sort. (Same item is photographed from the back as well)

I have always assumed this was a Mosasaur tooth or bony fish but I took this to a fossil group meeting recently and many claimed it is a tyrannosaurus shed. Just looking for more opinions thanks. Found at onion creek in Travis county
