Fossil scouting the creeks of northwest FL panhandle

I live up at the northern part of okaloosa County FL and for awhile now I've been scouting the creeks west of the chapola River and yet to have any luck. Still searching! Found this spot today driving! Need to back and check it out !

Found this in a little creek that runs behind where I live in east Tn. I need help in identifying it. It weighs about 7lbs.

Went out to the creek this Saturday in SW Tarrant county. Didn't find much other than some small gastropod, echinoid and oyster shell, but did noticed something interesting next to the creek wall. There seems to been a shoreline that once existed near here since wave-formed ripple usually forms near the shoreline, but then later covered by sea again. Wave patterns seems to be very similar to modern shoreline when waves pushes sands into round piles that are shown on the last two pictures.

Hey guys, I'm going to be in Charleston here in a bit, just visiting family over the summer, and I would appreciate some help in finding good places in Summerville to hunt the creeks. I've had some success, but I'd like to narrow down my options some before I get out there. I am not asking anyone to surrender their honey holes, but I would like to know which areas of Summerville are topographically favorable for finding fossils. I've noticed that some creeks will be chock full of material, but a near-identical creek half a mile from it will be barren of fossils. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Good morning to all, I will be traveling to Seabrook, South Carolina on Saturday (6/15/19), and have been doing some research regarding potential sites to go shark tooth/fossil hunting. I have been fascinated with fossils and shark teeth my entire life, but never lived in a location to support this hobby. I've read that Summerville, Charleston, and Cooper River (maybe off-shooting creeks), are common spots, but I'd like to have a more calculated game plan than just stopping at random rivers/creeks LOL. After reading through several of the forums here, I understand that some basic advice would be to utilize google earth or maps, and attempt to locate "dredge spots" in rivers..? Would anyone be willing to help a newbie out with some research 101 type advice? Again, your craft absolutely AMAZES me!!! Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!!!

I'm about to go to Venice FL, hopefully will find some small shrimpers and maybe a few medium sized teeth I know there aren't any gators in the ocean, but if I were to plan a trip to the Peace River or other similar locations --- would gators be a huge problem? I'm not from Florida, and I would really appreciate any advice on how to ward them away or avoid them in general (like what time they are most active, where to look before diving, etc). Thanks!

Hey everyone. I’m new to this forum and pretty new to hunting anywhere other than the beach, but I’ve been venturing out to Summerville and a few creeks in the West Ashley area. I’ve found pretty much nothing except for a broken meg tooth in a well known creek in Summerville. I’m not asking for anyone’s specific hunting spot, but does anyone have some insight on other areas besides the Sawmill Branch creek?

So I found this among many others in a ditch in the Miocene area of South Carolina. Of the many things I found were Angustiden, Great White shark teeth, as well as a few verts.. This one has got me stumped, probably due to the fact that it is a smaller one but if had to guess I am thinking Angustiden. Any thoughts?

Found this neat looking rock this weekend. It has a ring around its outer area that looks like bark and is hard as rock. Could this be Petrified Wood?

Hi! I've been interested in fossils as long as I can remember, but have only been actively searching for them the last year or so. Looking forward to meeting people here and learning more about hunting, preservation, locations...whatever I can learn. Most of what I've found appears to be Ordovician, and nothing extraordinary yet, but I can dream!

Hi everyone! I'm fairly new to Beaufort, SC. Recently moved up from FL where I hunted Peace River a lot. I'm hoping to connect with other fossil hunters in the area and maybe gain some local knowledge. I've watched a ton of videos of nice megalodon teeth being found in Summerville/Charleston area land sites, creeks, ditches. What I'm looking for is the possibility of similar sites here in Beaufort County but I don't know enough about local formations to draw any conclusions. I'm not a diver yet so my main focus is on land at the moment. I've hunted the sands at Port Royal with minimal success (the occasional small meg) but I'm really looking for the bigger stuff. I also have a kayak if that helps! Any info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

First of all thank you for the join and all the info already published! I've been obsessed with sharks since I was a kid and naturally loved shark teeth. My family that used to visit Florida would always give me some as I grew up and I talked my parents into getting me a meglodon tooth. As of today I went on my first adventure and found me a vertebrae behind the YMCA baseball/soccer fields in Summerville. Seems to be the only concrete directions to a place I can find on google. Unfortunately I am only temporarily here and a full blown rookie. I am here for C17 school at Charleston afb and will be returning to the north east (Jersey) mid December. Was wondering where some other areas I may venture to legally and have some luck? Also I'd love to join anyone that is interested in having me along. I have a car and willing to travel (even pick you up). I plan on trying out coosaw creek by a church tomorrow after school. Just reply here or message me if you'd like to join me or let me join you. Hasn't been too much rain in the the last few weeks so I thought I'd go down to Arcadia where I hear is rich in fossils. Does anyone know of any shallow creeks down there that are good to search in? Still waiting for the peace river to go down some more.

I just moved to the Portland area and I'm trying to find somewhere to look for fossils nearby. When I say nearby I wouldn't mind driving an hour or so. I just want to find something close enough that I can drive there and spend most of the day looking and then head home. I'm not looking for any specific kind of fossils. And I don't mind looking on the Oregon side or the Washington side. I went to a creek a few days because I found a list that said I might be able to find petrified wood. When I arrived it didn't look like a place where I would find anything and sure enough I left empty handed. So if anyone knows of any places that would be wonderful. I haven't made to any of the beaches out here either so if anyone knows the best beach to find fossils that would be nice also. Thanks.
