This doesn't look like most shells I see, kinda looks bony. Not sure if the imprint on top is part of it. Kidding about it being a wing but the shape was perfect! North texas Eagle Ford creek. And for those who will suggest I put it on solid surface in bright light and back up I have included that image.

The order of Acipenseriformes (Sturgeon-like fishes) both includes sturgeons (Acipenseridae) and paddlefish (Polyodontidae). At least three Sturgeon-like fishes (Acipenseriformes) can be found in the Jiufotang Formation (Jehol Group) and in the Yixian Formation in western Liaoning and northern Hebei Province China: Peipiaosteus pani Liu and Zhou, 1965, Protopsephurus liui Lu, 1994 and Yanosteus longidorsalis Jin, Tian, Yang & Deng, 1995. The Jiufotang Formation - where this Peipiaosteus comes from - is dated to about 120.3+/-0.7 million years ago, which was during the Aptian age of the Cretaceous; the Yixian Formation - where P. liui and Y. longidorsalis can be found - is dated slightly older, around 125-121 million years ago (Barremian-early Aptian). Peipiaosteus pani, Liu and Zhou 1965, a relative of nowadays sturgeons, is from the Jiufotang Formation, Pani Lake, Liaoning. This sturgeon is characterized by a long fusiform trunk and a short dorsal fin. The origin of the dorsal fin is a little before that of the anal fin. The normal size of these specimens normally is around 15 to 30 cm – but I’ve seen a couple of fish exceeding 60cm. Line drawing from Grande et al. 2002, p. 218: References: Liu, H. & Zhou J. (1965): A new Sturgeon from the Upper Jurassic of Liaoning, North China. Vertebrata PalAsiatica Vol. 9, No. 3, 1965, p. 237 ff. Went hunting for shark teeth today at NSR. I ended up with a blue and white artifact, a blue clay marble, Enchodus fang and a couple of cool shark teeth.

I found these bivalves in Panther Creek in Frisco, Texas. They were found in a cemented sandy layer in the upper part of the Cretaceous Arcadia Park Formation (Turonian) which is part of the Eagle Ford Group. Could this be a Plicatula Sp.? One shell is 26mm x 26mm; the other is 19mm x 19mm.

What is this Cretaceous oyster that I found in Post Oak Creek in Sherman, Texas? Most oysters in the creek come from a yellowish calcite-cemented sandstone from the Arcadia Park Formation of the Eagle Ford Group. It is about 48mm in length.

Hike 'up' to KT Dinosaur extinction boundary. Alberta.
Ridgehiker posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Back to the Cretaceous badlands. Fall has come to the Alberta Badlands and cooler temperatures. This is a positive for exploring the steeper slopes and KT dino extinction boundary high above the Red Deer River. This report is a bit top heavy in scenery photos. Didn't want to get sidetracked by fossils along long trek through lower levels or would never make it up to the destination. Encountered Bullwinkle a couple of kms before our driving destination. Lots of wildlife this day including grouse, mule deer , coyotes and a million migrating waterfowl. Need to push our way through some non-badland topography. Boreal and aspen forests.- 41 replies

I found this vert at Post Oak Creek Texas. It's very heavy and fossilized. The area is Cretaceous. The vert is slightly concave on each end but seems different from my other Pleisosaur verts. Any help on ID is appreciated.

The weather was a pleasant 20c so great to hike hours in the badlands and perfect to meander through the hoodoos and tackle a few precarious slopes. Overhead in the clear blue skies there were thousands of birds migrating south. All fossils are catch and release. The Red Deer River. The river cuts through and exposes various Cretaceous deposits for a few hundred kilometers before joining the South Saskatchewan River. At this site it exposes the Scollard and Horseshoe Canyon formations. Further south the Red Deer exposes the Dinosaur Park and Oldman formations. Other formations are exposed by the Bow, South Saskatchewan, Milk River and Oldman Rivers..
