I’ve wanted a croc scute for quite a while, reptile especially croc remains are rare on the yorkshire coast so i’m pleased to find one today. I found it wearing out of a slab, it’s a partial but not complaining! Possibly Steneosaurus

Hi! After a long hiatus from fossil collecting, I've finally decided to start again! While searching online, I found this amazing specimen on online listed as a Mosasaur skull- I'm sure anyone could debunk that in seconds. I'm almost certain that this is actually the skull of a crocodile, but I want to be sure before I go ahead and purchase it. I'm also unsure of the authenticity of this fossil- for the cheap price it is at currently, it is a complete steal. Any input is appreciated. -conleys

Hello! I have two fossils I found in Monmouth County, NJ, I would like to get some opinions on. The first one looks a lot like my other Mosasaur Verts (concave on one side, convex on the other, size and shape look right) however, it has that divot on one side so I was wondering if that could throw croc into play. The second one, which I believe to be reptile bone, has those four equally spaced lines on it so I want to know if we think they are predatory/scavenge marks. I know that's usually tough to tell but that spacing between them looked pretty good to me. As always, all help is greatly appreciated! -Frank H

Hey everyone, Here's some of my finds at Hogtown Creek in Gainesville, FL. I'm pretty confident those are some juvenile meg teeth. Both found next to each other in some heavy clay deposits, which explains the coloration. I was hoping maybe I could soak them in something to bring out the enamel color.. Any ideas? Not sure about the other fossils. Is that some sort of prehistoric cephalopod? The fossil next to it is smooth on the bottom, and I can only describe it as looking like an upside down mushroom. On the other picture, someone else told me the one was a crocodile tooth (what kind??). The one next to that is a complete mystery - but a very cool looking find. It's broke, but the back has two sharp points. Any help you can provide in ID'ing these fossils would be greatly appreciated!! Sam

These are two crocodile vertebrae from the lower Jurassic (Posidonia Shale) from the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden. The bigger one is about 8 cm long. Here is a picture of the unprepped fossil: The prep work took about 10 hours. I am very pleased with this find because in general crocodile bones are much rarer than Ichthyosaur bones in Holzmaden. Hi everyone, Im looking at a bunch of stuff that someone got from the big fossil expo this month, but I want to be sure of what is what before I do anything. There's a few things way beyond what I could potentially get, but I'm just curious about in general. These are all Moroccan, and most, if not all, are Kem Kem. are these first 4 pics spinosaur? With the teeth I know the 2 on the top&left are probably carchar teeth, but I'm wondering about the other 2. In the 2nd picture, I'm guessing the right one is a spinosaur vert, right? What about the other one? I'm sure it would probably be very hard to tell with just a single rib, but could the rib be spinosaurus? It seems to match some museum spino skeleton ribs, but that's the best I can figure out:/

Last Saturday I was in the quarry Kromer (Posidonia Shale, Lower Jurassic) for the first time of the year. Maybe some of you already noticed this topic: http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/93302-prepping-a-plate-with-some-ichthyosaur-vertebrae/ Beside of this plate I also found some other cool things but firstly here is a picture of the quarry: You are allowed to search in the heaps on the left behind the white car. The material isn't that bad at the moment. I was there about 6 hours and I found about 6 teeth. I already prepped three Stenosaurus (crocodile) teeth: 1 cm long: 1.8 cm long: (the best one) And 1.2 cm long: (damaged) I also found this fish: The cross section is about 5 cm long and it will need very much prep work... I don't think that I will do this one in the near future although a friend and expert said that this is a kinda nice find! My favourite finds were the bones. I found several incomplete ones which I didn't take home but also the plate with the vertebrae and another plate with some bones on it. Here is a picture of one of the visible bones: I think that should be an Ichthyosaur Humerus but I am not entire sure. I will post some more pictures of it tomorrow and after the prep. There are also a couple of ribs on the plate so it could be interesting! And for all the invertebrate fans. Here is a sweet little ammonite: Thanks for watching!!

In this thread I wanna share some fossils from Holzmaden, which I found partly years ago but prepped recently with my new tools. I will not show only bones but also belemnites and other fossils from Holzmaden. All the finds are from the quarry Kromer. Hopefully I will be able to extend this thread step by step! So for today I want to show three bones from the posidionia shale from Holzmaden. Firstly this 3 cm long Ichthyosaur vertebra. Here is a picture of the unprepped piece: As you can see there was only the cross section visible so it was a kinda hard work. I think until now the prep took about 2 hours and I will probably prep it a bit more... but here is a picture of the current state of the vertebra: I am very satisfied with the result until now! Especially because I didn't lost too much of the fossil material in the areas where I had to glue it.

Colleagues, I was collecting on the shoreline of Purse park in Maryland, a beautiful site along the Potomac river. I'm hoping you can help me with your thoughts as to the identification of a few small fossils. The ruler is in centimeters. 1. The first photo appears to be a scute. Is this from a crocodile? 2-4. The next three photos are of a very small fossil which appears to be a double crowned tooth. The base is flat and the crowns are cuboid in shape and flat on top without any ridges. ideas? 5. The final photo is a tiny bone. I'm comfortable that it is fossilized and not modern. It appears to have the shaft of a long bone, or potentially a phalange, but the terminal surface is almost similar to that of an ear bone or the zygomatic arch of a bird skull. I'm a veterinary pathologist and I'm at a loss. I would welcome your guidance.

Hello! I recently bought a moroccan Carcharodontosaurus tooth and found, to my surprise, this little guy wedged underneath the foam in the box. It's hollow and looks a bit like a croc tooth but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Nothing to crazy going on today. My wife found this piece of bone and she wants to know what it is. My initial thought is it was some random piece of croc but now that I’m looking at it closer I’m really unsure. Take a look tell me what you think

Headed out to the potomac this morning and man was it nice out. Hit low tide and made my way to the cliffs, which all fallen right now btw. Found some nice sand tigers today’s and some smaller beaten otodus. Highlights of the day were a nice little croc tooth and a croc vert which is a first for me. I don’t seem to find much bone in the Aquia formation.

Hey Everyone! This is the 3rd and final video we did with our buddy Bob from Canada. We hunted sharks teeth for 2 days and this was definitely the more productive of the two! We found a beautiful little juvenile Meg, a huge crocodile toe bone, and a bunch of beautiful teeth and other fossils. It was a great time and we can't wait for Bob to make it back down south! -

Recently you could find "many" bones and teeth in a "Bonebed" in a quarry near Buttenheim in Germany. Too bad I was a bit too late to search in this Bonebed. As I was there it was still possible to find something but the layer was buried under about 1 meter dirt. So I couldn't really find something there. All bones and teeth come from the Toarcian. This thread of @Kasia inspired me to buy some teeth and bones from there too. So thank you for the inspiration Here are my acquirements: I bought three Steneosaurus (crocodile) teeth: The first one is about 1. 3 cm long: Detailed: The next one is a big one with a length of 2 cm. This one was found in Altdorf: The last one is damaged and small (0.8 cm long) Beside of these Croc teeth I also bought some Ichthyosaur material from there: A 1.1 cm long tooth which could be quite nice if someone didn't glued it that bad... I am not sure what I will do with this one because there seems to be another tooth in the matrix and I will maybe try to break it and glue it a bit better. Too bad the teeth are extremely fragile so I am not sure what I will do... And another small Ichthyosaur tooth with a length of 0.6 cm: And last but not least three small Ichthyosaur vertebrae: All three are a bit bigger than 2 cm. All in all I have to say that I am quite satisfied with my purchase expecially because I didn't had to pay too much money for them. Thanks for viewing
