    The rock

Hello, I cut the rock open right on the edge of this cavity. Could someone please have a look? There are 3 crystallized cords with petals. Have no idea really. Found this rock near the California coast 20 miles from the beach deep in sand under a layer of soil 3’ thick. The layer of dirt over the sand seems to be endemic to the area. Many Thanks!
  2. Here’s the before and after with the nautiloid that realized was crystallized inside, so I decided to slice it. The polishing process made a difference in bringing out the features inside. I’m not sure if this came from the Fort Worth formation (I think it is) or Grayson. Johnson County TX. Cymatoceras sp. outdoor pics are before polishing (I’m not sure if it shows up in order of my upload, doesn’t look like it initially).
  3. The 2nd fossil that I need to try to id is interesting! It's has pits all over it. I looked at some photos of Stigmaria which looks quite similar, but I thought it couldn't hurt to get others to look at it and see what they think. I appreciate any help you can provide. I'm not exactly sure where it was found. Sorry about that. The measurements on this are 114 mm L x 88 mm W biggest side 76 mm W smallest side x 63.5 mm H. Thank you, Lezlie
  4. Hi All! I’ll get right to it…Found this out on a new construction site dig in north Oshawa, Ontario amongst other minerals and large boulders. Looks like it could be fish bones, but there’s a kind of leafy or veiny like pattern across the surface. Maybe part of a heart? Also, whatever the protuberances are have crystallized towards the centre and some appear to extend through the core and out the other side. No idea what I’ve found, but any info would be great!

    Egg? Crystalized or Petrified?

Hello! I have found my way here because while my gut says one thing, I would really prefer more experienced opinions. I found this in a layer of river sediment (probably flood level) near the Russian River in Healdsburg, California @ approximately 10-20 ft above current water level. It seems to be honed in texture and weighs 245.8g. I believe it to be Yellow Calcite as its completely crystallized, there is also a portion of it that is more dense and less translucent, which I'm guessing to be the yolk. The greenish ring is circular but not perfect, which is why feel the yolk has been broken. . Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions?

    Unknown fossil

Found this fossil while digging a window well. It broke from my shovel and this was found inside! Still not able to identify it.
  7. Inch and a half circular crystalized "thing" found is Oscoda County, MI - would LOVE to know what I've found. Newbie here. Thank you so much for any suggestions!

    Possible coprolite?

I've started finding these on my East Texas property recently. Pictures of two different rocks are attached. One of the forms in the rocks is crystallized. Picked up off the ground where there's iron ore and hematite. Your feedback is appreciated.

    Fossilized Lightning??

Took my dogs out to Grapevine lake, frequently go there, kicked this up in a sandy area close to swimming beach. Quite puzzled, there are no such concretions in Woodbine here and pretty sure no fossil involved. I've only seen oysters, Turritella and dinosaur footprints. So this appears to be crystalized in the center, with spirals of different color granules and crystals wrapping around very fine grained structure in the shape of a bottle. It's got to be something, but what? Looking forward to an answer! My only decent Woodbine find.

    Petrified snake from Colorado?

I inherited an interesting rock/fossil from my father and wondered if it was an authentic petrified snake segment. He was a physician, and received it from one of his patients back in the 1970's. The patient was a fossil/rock hunter in the Colorado region and said it was from the area. Those are all the details I have. Are there really fossilized snake segments like this around? It appears to have a segmented outer casing of 2-3mm around the whole piece. A circular (spine?) runs through the length of the piece on one side. The interior is fully crystalized.

    Another fossil plant?

Good morning all! Had a few minutes over lunch to run to a new road cut and found this- my first impression was some form of twigs/stems without leaves, or roots, especially with the angles, as opposed to burrows, but, I've been wrong numerous times before eh? There appears to be some very faint lines associated with these (annotated picture). Appreciate any thoughts-there is the faint impression of a shell in the rock, which I believe is winterset limestone. Thanks all! Stay healthy! Bone
  13. I am looking for information on what kind of fossil this may be. It is in a limestone block wall in Ontario, Canada. There is evidence of crystallization in most of the fossils and crevices. This example is almost a foot long, 4 inches in height. There are brachiopods in many of the blocks as well, and a number of fossils similar to this example.
