Paleozoic Adventures in Kentucky and Tennessee October 2021

Hi Everyone, In the latter half of last month I took a two week trip to Kentucky and Tennessee. My sister, her husband, two of her adult children, and my parents all live in the Elizabethtown/Louisville area and I was able to spend some quality time with them. Fossil collecting was also part of my agenda. Herb, my primary fossil collecting partner in Kentucky and I had a three day trip down to Tennessee planned. I have heard that cystoids had stems like crinoids. Is that True? And can u find the stems? Here are some cystoids i found. One of them has like a little hole that looks like a stem would connect. And the other looks like a cystoid with the stem. Not sure if it may be a worm trace. These were found in kinnekulle

Pleurocystites squamosus (Parseley, 1982 (?)), Amecystis laevis (Raymond, 1921). There are at least 10 specimens of cystoids here, 6 Amecystis leavis and 4 Pleurocystites squamosus. The cystoids are either complete or partials. Upper Bobcaygeon Formation, Middle Ordovician. James Dick Quarry, Gamebridge, Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. Piece is 21 cm in length and 18 cm tall.- 2 comments

Its been a long time since Ive posted any find on here, so I thought Id show some of what I collected during this past winter. I took a trip to the Silurian of Tennessee to collect with a friend and did pretty good. This was my first time collecting Silurian fossils. These are from the Brownsport Group. I'll start with the sponges Astraeospongia meniscus a fairly common sponge, I collected several. Next up is a neat little Brachiopod. Machaeraria sp. And now enchinoderms. Calyx of

I was very happy to have my first ebay bid won and this plate was what I got. I've always wanted some fossils from the Lake Simcoe area but I never had the capacity to travel outside that far out of Toronto. Apparently there are two types of cystoids on this plate. This plate comes from the Upper Bobcaygeon formation, Ordovician period from Simcoe County, Ontario. It's a very different fauna from what can be found here in the bedrock of Toronto.
