Surely someone in the group knows which T.rex cast is used at the entrance of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. This display is known as the "Dancing Dinosaur" as well as the "Rockette Rex", after the Radio City Rockettes dancers. I thought it would be an easy answer to find with a search, but I none of the links mention which cast it is.

Hello Everyone, It feels like Deja Vu .. but it is that time of year again .. again. Wait, have I posted this already. A photo dump, of the few photos I snapped, of some of my more interesting finds. The Crowne Plaza had some enourmous mineral specimens and some fantastic fossils on offer this year. Though most were way outside of my budget. But photos are FREE ! The cutest fake fossil ? Yes ... and I almost bought one. I kick myself still for not pulling the trigger. Selfies with minerals anyone ?? .. yes please. Children for scale. I like it and I'm sticking with it, because I'm a rebel. Who needs a proper scale anyway. 1 FINN Height Unit (well, you can't see his feet) My daughter found her favorite, but alas we could not roll this one home. Moroccan tooth. Most likely Auriculatus. Fantastic price for such a nice tooth. They are normally quite beaten up. My other Moroccan finds. I love these for stocking stuffers The dealer I frequent from South Carolina. They are black water divers and have the best cetacean teeth and other bits and pieces. Great for school visits etc ... this stuff is sold by the pound. A sloth tooth partial. Mastadon (or Gomphothere ? .. probably a Gomph tooth) Tooth Cusp Extinct Billfish Vertebra Cheers, Brett

Denver Mineral, Fossil, Gem & Mineral Show 2023

It’s that time of year again, Denver Fossil Show time, still open ‘til the 17th. This being my 3rd time visiting, I felt I had a better idea of where all the dealers are, and what I wanted to see most. I go mostly to look at all the interesting fossils from all over the world, I saw dealers from every continent other than Antarctica. The show contains a lot of polished minerals and gems although it seemed like there was an ammonite at every table. The majority of the fossils available came from the United States and Morocco. There were plenty of stunning dinosaur bones and trilobites, fish and ammonites but as always there were many, many, fakes, composites, and poor resto jobs and whatever the weird scorpion things in the first image are considered.

Today I took a trip to the annual Denver fossil show, I really enjoyed it and it wasn’t 90+ F (32+ C) this time. There were fossils and minerals from all over the world, all though mostly minerals. I tried taking pictures of mostly different fossils, and they are not representative of what was at the show. If you do decide to go (it’s open for another week) look out for fakes and resorted and composited material there were many of those. It was fun to wander around looking at everything even if most of it is far outside my budget.

Yesterday (9-11-2021) I went to the Denver fossil show. It was my first time going and I really enjoyed it. Most of the show was minerals and gems and jewelry however there were quite a few fossils. Unfortunately, most were Moroccan. There were some Pleistocene fossils, Meg teeth, USA Dino material and a few other things. Well might as well start with the photos. Let’s start with the few mineral pictures i took. Next up the Moroccan material which dominated the fossils present.

So my wife has a business trip coming up in Sept. I'm going with her and want stuff to do on the few days she's at the office there. End of the week we are hitting up some museum places around Morrison. I'm also thinking of hitting up the Florissant Fossil Quarry, because that's at least one place I can go and find something myself. I mean I'm certainly going to buy a few fossils on the trip because well why not. So there are a few things I'll visit without her just because I don't mind the hikes. I'd kind of like to find a few things myself and I know absolutely nothing about the area. I really don't want to get to far away from those areas because I am in a rental, have to pick her up from work, and again I don't know the area. I'll not be taking a lot of equipment because of other stuff and room in the car. I'll have hammer and chisel basically and a pack to carry stuff in. Thanks for any help. Robert

My Petrified Wood from the Dawson Formation of Colorado

In Colorado there is a formation called the Dawson Formation also known as the Dawson Arkose Formation. The most common fossil by far is petrified wood and although I haven’t found any vertebrate fossils from dinosaurs and mammals have been found. It covers a relatively large time span from late Cretaceous to early Eocene, about 70-54 million years old. A member that has also found fossils in this formation, Blake @FossilDudeCO. Although it has been over three years since he was on his posts have still helped. He said that further south is Eocene but higher north in Parker and Aurora is Cretaceous and from the cinnamon tree family. That’s all the basic info, now it’s time for the pictures. The next four are wet to show the color a bit better. The next three are polished via rock tumbler. The next image sparkles like sunlight on snow but you can’t really tell with a picture. While most are brown and black there are hints of color everywhere. Red, and clearly wet. Orange Yellow is mixed in a lot of them with a lot of it being a yellow brown or yellow white color. This is the only rock I have found with green in it. Very strange if anyone knows what any of these minerals are I would love to know. Blueish Purple grey Ill take pictures of more purple ones shortly. Here are just more pictures, Enjoy The largest piece, the first image, is my favorite and largest find being 8.1 pounds (3.7 kilograms). FossilDudeCO said in a topic, "It is thought that the trees fell into standing water and began to deteriorate that is why we don't see lovely rings or any more definition to the wood, rather just strange mashed up chunks and bright colors!" Which I am perfectly fine with. In case you didn't read between the pictures, if anyone knows what any of these minerals are I would love to know.

Hello friends, I found this odd rock while looking in petrified wood areas near east Denver. I'm still not sure of the exact formation. The texture is very smooth, almost creamy. Its coloration is like marbled beef. Close inspection shows it is densely packed with very tiny white spires that seem to have some kind of hollow structure. Grass? Coral? Minerals? The hollows look almost vascular but I might be imaging things. The width of each white streak is <1mm so I couldn't get a measuring tool in the zoomed pic. Hope these are of some interest. Thank you for any thoughts.

Hello everyone, Merry Christmas! I have a few hunks of petrified wood I want confirmed, all three were found in the Denver area. I'm expecting that they're just all different examples of agatized petrified wood, but I want to make sure. The first two have been in my backyard since we moved here, the third my uncle found in his yard and gave to us. My question is, if they're all agatized petrified wood, how come they all look so different? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

A week from now, I'll be in a plane to Denver, Colorado, and then in a car to be headed to Philmont Scout Ranch. There's a hefty drive between Denver and New Mexico to grind through, and the guy who organized the trek wants to know if there are places along the way we could make stops for 1-2 hours to do something fun. This naturally gave me the idea for fossil hunting, as many of my excursions have been roughly that long, and for the fact that it's out in the west, which is a place known for fossils (correct me if I'm wrong). Having obviously never been to Colorado or New Mexico, I'm quite noobtastic when it comes to knowing the Paleontology of the area (aside from knowing that there's some Cretaceous stuff in Philmont, hence the T.Rex footprint). Any pointers appreciated!

I found this yesterday in the Cherry Creek greenspace area south of Denver. It looks like a coral fossil to me, but someone suggested it might be bone. It is somewhat porous and has lined tubes running through it. I have previously found some petrified wood in the area and was poking around for some more when I was surprised to stumble on this item. It is about 5" wide, 2" tall and has a rounded, mound shape.
