Happy Saturday, all! I'm helping a woman to photograph her brother's fossil collection. Everything was collected prior to 1967, after which he left the country. He's still living, but not easy to get a hold of. All of these items have been sitting in storage since then. I understand most of these may not be able to be identified. It's well outside of my wheelhouse, and I imagine many on here may be more familiar with material form the Morrison Formation. I'm going to add one or two per post to make it easy to differentiate. I'm most curious about the first piece which appears to be section of a jaw. If any additional photos are needed, please let me know. Thank you in advance! Label on storage boxes Some labels were included, but they were all jumbled. Fragments from the envelope.

Hello! I bought this bone from England a long time ago and unfortunately I still don't know what it is. Unfortunately, I didn't note the exact location at the time and unfortunately I can't remember it either. All I knew was that the bone came from the Hastings Beds. Unfortunately I don't have any other information. The bone measures approx. 16 x 8 x 6 cm (6,3 x 3,2 x 2,4 "). I would be very happy if someone could help me and know which animal the bone belongs to. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about the ID of fossil bones at all. Perhaps the bone can be assigned to at least one group of animals. I would be grateful for any help! Thank you in advance from Germany!

Hello all. 👋 Looking for some advice. I have some hell creek fm dino bone I would like to clean up but it has spots of lichen and iron. I tested some hydrogen peroxide in a small area and it seemed to clean up the iron. My question is if it will react with the "bone" material. Maybe soak it in HP or even Iron Out? Been a while since I took chemistry so I'm not sure about the interactions. Also, what is the best way remove lichen? Thank you in advance.

I made a post a while back about rocks I found in a part of Utahs poison strip known for having a lot of dino material. Based on the replies I decided everything I found is just rocks but with this one I am a little less sure because the texture is different. Some of it seems to be porous but there are are also parts that are a bit more smooth. I found it in a wash and wonder if running water could be a reason for this.

Curious about iron and pyrite in the Hell Creek Formation
Maniraptora posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Hey all! When I went on a collecting trip in the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, there were many iron concretions, and I've noticed that some specimens from there appear to be iron-stained. This makes me wonder if pyrite could be among the minerals involved in fossil preservation there. Are some of the bones found in the Hell Creek pyritized, and how could those be distinguished from others preserved differently? If so, do those Hell Creek specimens ever develop "pyrite disease," and what would be the warning signs to look out for? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!- 11 replies

Unfortunately the only information on the fossil is that it is from North America. I was thinking it is a distal femur or proximal tibia but really have no clue. Is it possible to ID the type of dinosaur with just the end of a long bone? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Pls help with an ID of this toe bone found in Hill Cnty, MT. I have taken several views of it and it is 2.25" long. It had been exposed for a long time and had a layer of lichens on it. Is it Tyrannosaur related, raptor, or ?? Thanks!

Hello, I made this find in the Alberta badlands yesterday, the area is known to have tons of hadrosaur bones, so i assume thats what i have. unfortunately, i was not prepared to extract the bone without completely destroying it, so i plan on going back to get it some time this week. I collected many bone fragments from the area, and have noted down the location. I will post decent pictures once and if i am able to bring the fossil home, i seem to have forgotten to take proper pictures in my excitement! I would also like to ask for advice on how to extract this fossil. I plan on purchasing some wedges to split the rock, to make it a more manageable size. beyond this, i understand that it is a good idea to stabilize the fossil somehow before extraction, what would you recommend i use for this? i would imaging an adhesive that is able to seep into all the pours, but i am not sure what i should use specifically. The second image is showing the rest of the fossil, mostly buried under clay. Thanks for the help!

Hello, I believe this bone shows evidence of teeth scoring from a predator Dinosaur (raptor or other theropod) and I am asking for a confirmation of this. I found this a few days ago in Wyoming in a formation I believe may be the Lance but I am not sure. Teeth there include Archeroraptor, other Dromeausaurid (sp), triceratops, avaceratops, paralbula, myledaphus, hybodus shark, edmontosaurus, borealasucbus, brachychampsus, fish, a couple of mammal types, large theropods, Aublysodon?, lissodon, Ankylosaurid, melvius as the most commonly found specimens. Of course, none are common but just in comparison to other fossils.

Recently I was talking to a friend of mine and I was advised that her granddaughter, who I had given some fossils about 6 years ago, when she was 10, was not into them any more. I advised her that if she did not want them, I would take them back. So today we met for dinner and I brought the fossils back home. Here most of the stuff- Eurypterid pieces, I believe from New York. Fish from the Brazil Santana Formation. Cephalopod pieces- Ammonite from South Dakota A clam from South Dakota- A couple Texas echinoids. Gryphaea from Texas Pinna from Texas Misc, Brachiopods Mazon Creek Annularia, Pecopteris and Essexella asherae jellyfish. South Dakota Oligocene fossils- coprolite and 2 large Titanothere bone pieces. Fossil shells from Florida- Dinosaur eggshell pieces from China. Starfish- Solnhofen, Germany Dominican Amber with insect inclusion Dinosaur bone pieces This cards were mine when I was a kid- printed in 1962. Petrified wood- Hirn coral- Southern Indiana Some modern shells- And a couple fossil books.

I found this in the Judith River formation last weekend near the Milk River, I assumed it was just croc scute but it is thicker and different texture, maybe its turtle or a different kind of croc. @patrickhudson thinks its dinosaur skin but I doubted him.

From the album: Dinosaurs
?Tyrannosaurus rex Lance Fm., Weston Co., WY, USA 1" X 1.5" X .5" I got this bone perhaps foolishly last year (although it wasn't very expensive at all; that coupled with the provenance that follows is why I got it). It was sold as a T. rex bone chunk, like many you can find online. There is nothing identifiable about these hunks of bone - you need something more substantial like a whole bone to be certain. I got this bone from a seller who finds many of the fossils himself, was director of a small museum in South Dakota (now gone I believe), and found T. rex "Ivan." This bone was in association with a (pes) claw, toes, metatarsals, tibia, ischium, gastraila, and other limb bone chunks in one site that he identified as all belonging to T. rex. The credibility of the seller and the association I think makes a good case for this being from T. rex. If you really want to spend your money on something like this, you need association (ideally with photos available), and an authoritative source doesn't hurt.-
