From the album: Dinosaurs
Species: Tyrannosauridae indet. Age: Cretaceous (Campanian), c. 75 million years ago Location: Two Medicine Formation, Montana, United States Pretty fragmentary tooth, but cool to have nonetheless. There are three species of tyrannosaurids present in the Two Medicine Formation (Daspletosaurus horneri, another currently unnamed species of Daspletosaurus, and Gorgosaurus libratus), so the tooth is not identifiable down to the species or genus level.- 1 comment

From the album: Dinosaurs
Species: Carcharodontosaurus saharicus Age: Cretaceous (Cenomanian), c. 95 million years ago Location: Kem Kem Formation, Morocco A lot of the enamel is missing, but an otherwise well-preserved tooth of Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, some would prefer labelling Kem Kem Carcharodontosaurid teeth as "Carcharodontosauridae indet." on account of Sauroniops pachytholus, but a 2020 study declared that it was likely synonymous with C. saharicus so I am comfortable with just referring to it as a tooth of Carcharodontosaurus.-

Hello all, it's been a very long time and I'm posting from my phone in an area with no wifi, so I hope I've followed all the rules as best I can. I was out fossil hunting in the Upper Hell Creek in eastern Montana last year, and found this bone. (Sorry for the images, I will not be able to retake them for months.) It was found in a sandy mudstone and appears to be hollow (and very crumbly). Its about 10 inches long.My best guess is a Struthiomimus femur, but if anyone knows different please let me know. Thank you for any help you can give!

Happy New Year! What would the new year be without the old Twilight Zone TV show marathon. I am trying to get my nephews interested in the old black and white series. One nephew is a newly minted dinosaur fan. Does anyone know what is this dinosaur found in Manhattan, NY that was sighted from a jet? I have a funny story that happened on New Year’s Day. I was trapped in a parking garage because the machine to pay was out of order, there was no attendant and the call button reached no one. Although I could have driven out thru the entrance by moving a few cones and driving around the gate, I decided to call the police because I did not want to get a nasty letter and bill from the parking company. I first tried to lift the gate up which promptly fell apart and fell to the ground. After fixing the gate, I then called the police to be my witness that I tried to pay and could not get out. They came several minutes later while the unanswered call button was still ringing. It reminded me of this Mr Bean episode:

Here is another fossil I have trouble seeing how an ID was made, from Kem Kem in Morocco. This was sold to me as a bone from a Spinosaurus, but is this identifiable as coming from Spinsaurus or even a dinosaur at all? It's clearly from a quite large animal as it measures 7-8 centimetres (2.75-3.15 inches; depending on how you count) long and isn't even complete, so perhaps that is indicative of dinosaurian origin at least? Or could it possibly alternatively have come from one of the crocodylomorphs in Kem Kem? Is there anything about this that confidently places it as coming from a dinosaur? Could it's location in the skeleton be inferred or is it too fragmentary? Thanks in advance

Hello! I got this dinosaur vertebra from Hell Creek (Montana) a few years back. It was sold to me as a Triceratops vertebra but I don't know how that ID was made. It's not in the best condition (has moss(?) on it and has been broken and then glued back together) but it is about 13-14 centimetres across so it is clearly from a big dinosaur, but there were plenty of those in Hell Creek (even two large ceratopsids - Triceratops and Torosaurus). Looking for any insight into how an ID could be made here and if Triceratops (or even just ceratopsid) is correct

Massive longshot with this one because I literally have no info other than it being a dinosaur vert. The seller bought a bunch of antiques and collectables and this was included listed as just "dinosaur vertebra". Some of the other fossils he has listed are clearly Moroccan--Mosasaur, Onchopristis etc, but this one definitely doesn't look Moroccan to me. SO, getting an ID is a massive longshot, but perhaps someone can recognize it and narrow it down a bit. I messaged seller for more info, but ... that's it unfortunately.

So i happen to come across this image, and it claims to be an opalised dinosaur jaw fragment from SA (South Australia) for me at least i do see some kind of fossil but its identification as carinal is dubious in my opion. What do yall think?

Hi, I am considering to buy this tooth for my collection. According to the seller it is a Leptoceratops from the Lance Creek formation, North-Central Niobrara County, Eastern Wyoming. As I am not very familiar with such teeth I would like to check with you guys here. Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Hey Everyone, Went to NSR today. Had some good luck. Nice couple of calcite covered specimens. This bone has me stumped. I believe it was larger at one time as it appears broken. One of the larger bone pieces I have found that is not a vert. Two groups of pics due to size. Any ideas?

I found this fossil on on a beach in the north of france and picked it up and suddenly realised what it was. It may have been washed across the sea from the English coast. I wanted to find out if it is a dinosaur fossil and what it was if possible. Size: Length of 6cm, width of 2.5cm and height of 6cm. Thank you for any help

Hello All. I recently purchased an older home in North Carolina. This was found in the attic during clean up. Is it possible that it is a tooth, or just an oddly tooth shaped rock? I have no information other then what I have given. How can I tell for sure?

Hello there, so in New Zealand there is an indermitate theropod dinosaur most commonly referred to as Joan Wiffen's Theropod. I am extremely confused on what the specimen actually is because some sources say the specimen is represented by a toe bone while others say a partial vertebrae. Also if anyone could tell me the specimen number (GNS 00 000, for example) or link a scientific paper explaining actually what it is i would be highly appreciative, thank you

I don’t know anything about ID’ing footprints so hopefully you guys can help me. It doesn’t look like one to me but I’m still curious. I don’t know exactly where this was found as it was given to me so unfortunately I don’t know the formation.

Hi guys, I found this dinosaur(?) vertebrae in a Phoenix, Arizona antique shop all by itself in a dusty, dark corner. I wanted to give it life back and purchased it for a bargain price. It was only labelled "Colorado dinosaur bone". To me, it looks like Morrison Formation material based on its surprising, beautiful color. Maybe sauropod or stegosaurus??? I know it's really worn, but it has a great shape in person and very heavy for its size. Talk about size, it's 7 inches long and 4.5 inches tall even worn down this much! Any help identifying it would be awesome! Thank you!

My three year old was playing with a box of random Dino bones this morning and he handed me this one - which I hadn’t really paid attention to before. It seems like they’re vessel grooves on the smooth surfaces? I know it’s tough to see the symmetry on my pics, and I know it’s pretty chunkosaurus, but I didn’t know with the unique convex and concave surfaces including the unique surface texture if it was at all identifiable. Unique shape. Frill piece? Unidentifiable? judith river formation of northern Montana - milk river thanks folks

Greetings Found this section of Dino bone in a local antique shop. It was from an estate of a man who found it and a few others in Montana in the 1950s. Thought it was cool and it was listed as a Hadrosaur bone. Some great colours. I have included end shots to show the marrow in cross-section. I know there is not much to work with but would anyone know from what bone this section would be from? It is a long shot but ... it is worth a try. Best Regards Rob

Psittacosaurus Vertebrae: Is it Real?
Praefectus posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello. I was wondering about the authenticity of this set of vertebrae. I suspect that it has had considerable repair and restoration. Particularly, the orange areas and some of the cracked sections seem off. I'm also suspicious of the fact that the vertebrae are all connected. Thanks for any help identifying the authenticity. Note: I'm aware of the laws regarding fossils from China and Mongolia. I am not looking to add this piece to my collection. I'm just curious if it is real or not.- 1 reply
