A Fossil Show Victory - My White River Formation displays takes first place at a gem and mineral show!

So this happened back in late March and I’m just now getting around to posting (or boasting?) about it. At this years gem and mineral show in Loveland, Colorado I entered a display case of White River Formation fossils which I have collected mostly in Colorado over the last few years. I emphasized diversity, attempting to show the diversity of the organisms (or at least prominent organisms) in the ecosystem while aiming to educate show visitors about the under-appreciated Eocene to Oligocene transition. Over 4,000 people came to the show, and at the end of the weekend the judges selected my case for first place in the fossils category, which I was very happy with because there were some other really awesome fossil displays people had put together. For the win I received a trophy and blue ribbon. I definitely intend to display again next year at the same show!

Hey guys so I got this display case a few years ago and was going to use it recently when I found that the plastic film is no longer clear but is a bit cloudy. Dont know how it happened but was wondering if there was any possibility of getting it cleaned? Thanks

I wanted to share with you all the display case I made for my dad as a Christmas gift. Over the last few years I've gifted him quite a few fossils, and he was in need of a decent place to display them. It is constructed almost entirely from materials salvaged from various demo projects around my house. The door, including latch and handle, were one of the original windows in the living room of my 100+ year old house. The rest of the wood came from some sub-flooring I replaced. The hinges are the only thing I bought. The thing that makes It especially cool is that my old house was my grandmother's home, and the house my old man grew up in. It doesn't really get much more ''homemade'' than that. It's a little rustic, but I'm pretty proud of how it turned out.

Hi everyone, I purchased an acrylic case to display various shark teeth with labels. The teeth would be placed on the bottom panel - the one that is on the table - with labels underneath them. Here's what it looks like: I didn't really consider how I would keep the shark teeth in their places. When the case is shifted, the teeth will shift with it. The teeth would just need to stay still if I need to move the case for cleaning underneath it, for instance. I don't want to use anything destructive like glue because it's likely that I'll want to replace teeth with better ones once I get them. Whatever I use, I'd like it to allow me to replace teeth as I please. I considered an anti-slip pad underneath the teeth; I doubt that would damage anything, but I'm not sure how well it will work. In any case, it's my best option right now and I'd appreciate more from those more experienced with this.

All the local Kmarts went the way of the dinosaur and went extinct last year. I bought a couple display cases for $40 each. I brought it home and just a month ago filled it up with fossils. The wiring was cut from the store in a hurry, so I just left it as is. I ordered a plug and rewired it this morning. The light makes a huge difference.

This evening I stopped by Harbor Freight and noticed this wooden case that I bought to hold some Ordovician pieces that I collected. It was on sale and I also got 20% off on it and paid $67.00. This case is lockable and cones with keys for the 2 different locks. I have an older, metal one that I use to hold Oligocene fossils so I thought I wold pick this one up.

Hello everyone, and happy holidays! I recieved this fossil fish (single fish split down the middle, so it's a mirror of itself). I'm looking to make a display case for it and I was looking for some help. I have a piece of plexiglass I want to use for the cover, and originally I was going to just build a wood case that holds the hinged box the fish is currently in, with a slot on top where the plexiglass could be slid in place. But now I'm not too sure, as I've seen some medal standoffs that can be used to hold up a piece of plexiglass over it, but then the sides would be open. I was hoping someone might have any suggestions. I'd like to keep the original box, but it's a real pain to open and close while keeping the halves in place. I definitely want to cover it because it's super fragile and I want to keep dust off of it. Thank you for your time, and any suggestions are more than welcome! Happy holidays! Ps. The box open measures 21 inches long by 14 5/8 inches wide and 1 inch tall. Regardless, it needs a solid wood base/platform to sit on so it can be picked up. Thanks again!

New house new display area! What do your display areas look like?

Hey everyone!! Im very excited to say me and my fiancé closed on a house last week . We have some renovation plans (small plans I hope) and then we move in! The house has this awesome built in china cabinet or something idk what it was technically for. There is some wires in there to get some lights but I’m curious what other people have for display cases in their homes. I bet there are some low cost LED lights out there. How do you guys like to do your displays? Heres what I have to work with. I feel like it has potential! Thanks for any ideas/tips and thanks to anyone who shares their display area set ups. Al

Today I stopped by a high end bike shop that is going out of business near my house. I picked up this nice plexiglass display case with 2 shelves, 2 locks and a few display stands- all for $30.00.
