Is there anyone else on here who collects large shark vertebra? I am mainly interested in the ones from the USA. Although I have a bunch of ones from Morocco and all of them, or at least, most of them are over 4 inches.

My daughter and I’s “make a shark tooth display” craft day
Rock36 posted a topic in Member Collections
So today was a long day in the making, but it was “make a shark tooth display” craft day for my 15-year-old daughter and I. We both dive for teeth together, but all these were purchased (most from places or depths I don’t want her diving at). Shells were some that we collected from Sanibel Island years ago. My daughter was giggly about it the whole time and after a few iterations here are the results. We do have a couple more teeth coming that will finish it off. For the big Meg, I drilled a hole in a piece of Colorado petrified wood that we collected together and put in the Meg holder. That post is still setting so can’t use just yet, but posted a picture of it without the tooth in it. -
I really enjoy micro fossils and consider them an important part of my recently begun collection. However, I find that I am disappointed with the options for displaying these fossils. Does anyone have any suggestions for displaying these fossils that make them visible to the naked eye for others to enjoy this part of my collection? I have tried a few gem jar type things that supposedly have magnification 3-5x. The results are less than impressive. I appreciate any tips anyone is able to provide.

Theres no way I'm the only one, but I think a fossil display with models incorporated take display and immersion to the next level. The creature alongside the evidence it left behind, makes such museum like feel in appearance and enhances the appreciation and wonder. Heres a thread to post any fossils you have on display alongside a model, statue, or toy. Here is a display from my collection of one of my favorite prehistoric creatures postosuchus alongside a giant 10inch+ chirotherium pos/neg footprint.

I have been wondering what to do with the graptolites I have found. Currently they're scattered around the house, which I think is a sign to put them up for display. Please... help... the graptolites are taking over my house! How do you suggest I display them?

Hi everyone, I'm making a display of Hell Creek Formation for a Tyrannosaurus Rex tooth I'm getting. Though it's a replica, it's a really pretty one, and making an equally gorgeous display for it would just be fun. I envision this. I'm wondering how I might sculpt the hills and ridges. I thought about cutting cardboard boxes up into shape and hot gluing them to a wooden plinth. I would then paint it and cover it in sand to replicate the features. My only concern about that is how I would carve the features of the ridges - those fine details - into a box. I considered perhaps covering those boxes in clay and carving details into the clay, though I'm not sure if the clay will stay put. Anyone have any ideas on this? I'd appreciate it

On another forum I found pictures of holders for pinned insect photos. A commercial made foam filled ball and home made ones to stick a pined insect onto or with spring clips. I had this cracked ball water valve going to recycle. I sprayed it with liquid wrench, put in the bench vice and a large pipe wrench to remove the end. I had the foam so now have the 1 1/8th inch ball mount, cost free! The idea is to be able to rotate an item ever so slightly as needed to take pictures of different parts of it. Not a display stand. Please show your holders.

I'm looking for a good cabinet to display some fossils and was thinking about what you guys have ? Anything around 2 to 3 feet wide would be ideal. Also would like to know what good places to buy from would be.

I visited Houston, TX at the beginning of November of this year and decided to visit the Houston Museum of Natural History. It was worth the trip. It is a beautiful museum with great exibits. Especially the Paleontology Hall. The exhibits were great, nice variety and the vertebrates were excellent. MY only gripe is that it it dark in there , makes for highlighting the exhibits but murder on cell phone pictures. If you go to shoot pix use a camers with a good low light setting. I apologize for a couple of the pix but see above. I shot these pix to highlight the museum and not to provide fossil identification. So enjoy the pretty fossils.

Aside from our favorite auction site, can anyone please recommend a good site, or store for buying acrylic risers? I’m looking for longer ones around 12 inches in length. Height so they stack.

Here is a method of displaying large ammonites in a deep display cabinet. The specimens are mounted using "L" screws of various sizes screwed into the back of the box. I custom fitted a 1/4 " plywood piece instead of the normal box back to provide a better anchor for the screws. I used spray on adhesive to apply the leather look fabric to the back for a richer look. You can finish the wood and leave it a natural look also. The small ones are hot glued to the fabric.
