    Here's a drum fish tooth lodged in a curiously shaped piece of host matrix. Smooth, cylindrical with a potential spiral groove. What do y'all think? Grid lines are 1mm spaced.

    I found these in the Owyhee Desert of south-west Idaho back in the 90s. I was told the jaw with teeth was a Drum Fish. The enamel is like brand new. There are tons of these fossils in certain areas. I guess the whole area was under water at one point. The holes in the little shells were found that way. Any clarification on names would be appreciated.

    I’ve had these in my substantial pile of ??? I saw a recent post that looked similar and pulled these three out. Roughly 1/4 inches. Are they drum fish or concretions or ??? Thank you

    I have really struggled to recognize drum fish teeth. I pick up these little round "pebbles" on Myrtle Beach all the time, and I usually toss them back because on the front, they look like rocks. They aren't smooth like enamel. But I also always hesitate because the back looks like it used to be attached to something. So are these pebbles or drum fish teeth, and if you are familiar with drum fish teeth, can you give me a couple of tips to know when I've found one? By the way, I've looked online, but drum fish teeth images are so inconsistent, I wonder if a lot of folks are confused. Anyway, thanks, as always!

    Confirm Drum Fish Tooth maybe?

    Found on Myrtle Beach. I have never found or personally seen a drum fish tooth before, but after much research, wondering if that's what I have here? I've looked at some photos online but don't quite see any that are so well scooped-out on the underside. The photos I've found look more dimpled than so perfectly concave. So I'm not 100 percent sure. Thanks! - Paula
