Blast Cabinet Harbor Freight. I am also confused does it come with the blaster too? This would be for fossil prep, mostly dino material

I recently purchased a Stihl TSA 230 battery powered cut-off saw. I know several people on here use Stihls so I was hoping to get some input. The battery fits in snug, but still dust accumulates inside the battery compartment during cutting. I can shake most of it out afterwards but there's always some stuck to the sides of the compartment and the battery. I wiped it all out of the compartment and off the battery the first time, but it took a while to do so thoroughly, and I was worried about even having a lightly damp rag near the battery. Is it a big problem to have some residual dust left in the battery compartment? Just trying to take care of this thing well from the start, it's my new favorite toy and was not cheap.

I’ve been manually prepping some fossils I’ve found, nothing too exciting, brachiopods, bryozoans, crinoids stems, etc. I haven’t made a habit of wearing a mask, but I’m starting to doubt my lax habits. I’ve got a sinus headache that won’t quit. Of course there is dolomite dust all around my work area. I guess I’m wondering if it would be better just to make a smallish box with a clear lid and hand/glove holes in the sides. I’m toying with the idea of using my dremel, in which case I would absolutely use a box, but not sure I’m ready to do that. Feel free to let me know if I’ve already killed myself. Thanks!

Is PPE required if you have a blast cabinet and dust collector? Can I work indoors with such a setup?
Trilobite Enthusiast posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
Pretty much the topic. I am building fossil preparation lab, and it would be preferable for me to have it be indoors, in my basement, so that everything may be protected from the elements. If it is in my basement, I want to ensure that I don't contaminate my house with dust. I'd also like to know whether a blast cabinet and dust collector are sufficient to allow me to prep without needing to wear a dust mask. What do you guys say? -
Hello everyone, I was wondering if Fossils (Shark Teeth, and Dinosaur Teeth / Claw) are in need of maintenance ? Are they ok with just being in open air in your house? Can they stand sunshine? Perhaps a weird question, but i was just wondering, the last thing you would want is to have your teeth fade or damaged. Thank you for your replies! Best,

So i prep with hand tools. Mostly chalk and limestone. But i am worried about the dust coming off the rocks. I spray the rocks with water so dust wont come up. But im not sure if that works. Do i need a mask?

So i prep with dental picks. Do i need a dust mask for it? Also i was putting small drops of glue cyanoacrylate i think its called. What happens if u breath in a little bit of glue? Is it dangerous?

I've been doing preparation for four years now and have tried various masks but none seem to work for me. I've used the disposable ones and the hard ones, but since I use a microscope for preparation all they seem to do is restrict me or send all the air I'm breathing out upwards and steam up the eye pieces! I have a pretty narrow nose so I sit pretty close to my microscope. I've found when I do wear the disposable masks I end up pulling it under my nose - pretty much defeats the purpose. I was just wondering what others around the world use? I know it's dangerous to not wear a mask, and that's what I'm currently doing. For ear protection I use some noise cancelling headphones - best investment I ever made! They are a million times better than earplugs or earphones in my experience, and you can still hear when people are talking to you. Any general notes or suggestions on PPE used around the world would be great!

Hi all, I'd like to blend some glue lines on a piece I had prepped recently. I've read that painting over them with a mixture of elmers white glue, powdered matrix and water can give a fairly good, reversible finish and is cheap! I was just wondering what sort of ratios to go for if anyone has any idea? Cheers, Matt

Looking for ideas on how to keep bookshelf displays from getting so dusty. It is a pain to move all the fossils all the time to dust.

Hi Fellow Forum members. I have been using a home made dust collection system and think it is time to upgrade. Does anyone have any recommendations? I have seen some woodshop dust collectors that will filter down to 0.3 microns but I am not sure if that is good enough. I am looking for feedback from anyone with experience with dust collectors. Thanks, Andy

Tonight I started to build my new workstation for prepping fossils. I picked up a blasting cabinet at our farm supply store. I removed the heavy duty gloves and sandblasting gun and adapted some other stuff to attach the shop vac . I need a few pieces to add more led lights to the inside
