  1. Today I receive some Echinocorys (Leske, 1778) sea urchins. Some still in their flint matrix. I am in love with their color variety. They were found in the fields around Les Andelys along the River Seine. Parasitic worm tunnels are visible on some sea urchins. Also contain some mini calcite crystals, which are clearly visible in the sunlight. For my sea urchin collection and welcome addition. I would like to identify them by species, who can help me with good online documentation about these sea urchins? I will also post detailed pictures in the topic so I can get some help. This will follow when I have better light and time. I like to hear when people recognize species

    Echinocorys Scutata

I found this by chance on a Sunday afternoon walk on Hayling Island beach on the south coast of Hampshire near The Inn on the Beach. I wasn't even looking for fossils on the predominantly cherty beach but was watching my footing very carefully as I left the beach and stepped onto the car park when I saw the characteristic line of twin holes. I initially thought it was was a Conulus Abogalerus (Leske) because it's really conical in shape and the right size but because the mouth was not central realised it had to be something else. Now I think it's probably Echinocorys Scutatus (Leske). It's got a projection on it, just like specimen "e" on this page. I can only find one other sighting of Echinocorys Scutatus in the area, the first photo on this page which was found at Peacehaven but that's 90km (55 miles) away. This forum has a partial specimen of some kind of echinoid found on Hayling Island in 2011 but I can't find any other mention of echinoid fossils on Hayling Island on the internet so I feel very lucky to have found something which must be quite rare
  3. Hello, is it possible to know the exact species of this echinocorys? It was found by me a few years ago in France, in Normandy in the Cretaceous cliffs of the Pays de Caux. its size seems huge to me! I have never seen one of this size cm: 9 X 8.5 X 8.3 inches: 3.54 X 3.34 X 3.26 Thank you in advance for your comments
  4. I found this at low tide after a rowing outing on the foreshore of the tidal section of the river Thames near Hammersmith in London, UK. I have zero experience of fossil ID. From above, I thought it looks like a conulus but I was interested by the hexagonal pattern and two rows of dimples on the underside. Thanks for any info as to what they are and what it might be. Tim
