    Large leg bone-Mastadon?

Hello, I found this in SE Texas along a river where I regularly find horse, bison, and camel fossils. I thought this one resembles a mastadon leg bone? Also I planned on using vinegar to remove the sediment. Happy to hear any recommendations for preserving this. Thanks
  4. Hi, so I have this fossil that is carved into Ganesha but I would like to know elephant it is from and is it an authentic fossil. it is said to come from the Paleogene period
  5. I was hoping someone might be able to help identify this. I think it was found in Arizona. Thank you!

    Elephant/Mammoth tooth ID

Hi, I got this tooth from an old collection which sadly did not contain any locality details. Is it possible to give an ID on this one? I can take better and more detailed photos if needed. Any help will be much appreciated. Regards, Oz

    Vacant lot find.

I came across this in a pile rocks under and around a tree in a vacant lot. Reminds me of a large bone. Thanks in advance for your time.

    Gomp maybe?

Hi, All! My name is JD. I am from Pittsburgh, PA. Was visiting Edisto last year and found this weird fossil. Have been struggling to ID. This was my first fossil hunt since I was a kid living in Beaufort. P.S. I did properly report this to SC and was properly licensed Can anyone tell me what this is?

What kind of bone is this?

Hello, I found this today on the North Norfolk coast, England (Trimingham). I don’t have daylight photos but do have this video. Happy to post photos tomorrow if the video is not good enough! IMG_1351.MOV
  12. Hello!! Just wanted to share with the forum some of my fossils and bones that I do not need identified but would love thoughts on nonetheless. The elephant bone is of a four tusker- the upper part of the tibia, and completely mineralized, and very heavy. It is anywhere from 13-15 myo. The tortoise shell frags include the lip of the shell, as well as a nice slab of the plastron- found separately, but in the same creek. Tortoises were in Nebraska 8-15 mya. The horse tibia has been identified as either the tibia of the small three-toed horse Pseudhipparion, or the one toed horse Protohippus. All of these were found in Nebraska in a creek that runs through the Valentine and Ash Hollow Formations, both Miocene exposures. Let me know your thoughts!!

    Proboscidean tooth?

Hi! I'm having trouble ID-ing this ~4.4cm long mammal tooth from China. It was labelled as Playbelodon, though the lack of cusps makes me doubt that assessment. I'm starting to wonder if it's a Proboscidean at all, and if it's an entirely different family of mammal alltogether. Does anyone have an idea on what this could potentially be?
  14. Hello all! my wife has ordered my early Xmas present. What should I be looking for, in authenticity? I watched the pawn stars episode with the elepahnt bird egg lol and it appears to have the elongated marks they talked about. 12" in height....here are a couple photos! Thanks for the input!
  15. Hello, I found this Elephant? tooth a few weeks ago. The sourounding area is very salty, so I assume that's part of the reason there are gypsum crystals on this fossil. I would like to expose more of the tooth, but I am afraid I will harm the fossil, since they dont come off easily. Should I use any specific techniques?

    Mammoth skull

Good morning, I walked by this while servicing my truck at a dealership. I thought it didn’t look modern, but could be wrong. If it is an ice age fossil I was planning to purchase this to prevent anymore sun damage. Thanks

    Stegotetrabelodon tooth?

Hello, can anyone tell me if this is from a Stegotetrabelodon, or similar animal? It is around miocene age, found in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. It is about 12cm long, unfortunately it is very brittle, I will work on it a bit in the future. I googled "Stegotetrabelodon" since it was listed as a known species in the area, but the images aren't quite similar to my tooth. Hope you guys can clear this up for me.
  20. Hello everyone! I found this elephant tusk in the desert a few months ago, everything I find here is very brittle, and this is no exeption. I have already set the small unstable fragments with a very small layer of super glue. Should I use paraloid? I haven't been able to find any in this country, is there any other more common substance I can use (I've heard bad things from wood glue). I still want to remove some of the matrix, but I am unable to do so because of the fragility of the fossil. Thanks in advance.

    Whose Tooth?

Out of a quarry in the Pellenz area of Rhineland, Germany. The quarry (and many others) exploits the gigantic layer (30-50m) of sand and ashes left by the pyroclastic phase of the eruption/explosion of the Laacher volcano (the largest volcanic event known to ever having taken place in Europe), which killed and buried every form of life in a radius of at least 50km. This took place some 13,000 years ago, so this is a relatively recent fossil. Question: Mammuthus primigenius, or Palaeoloxodon (Elephas) antiquus? AFAIK they were both around to enjoy the fireworks.

Is this mammoth tooth real ?

i saw this on online. Is it real ?
  23. I see clear differences between woolly rhino and today's rhinos but I am not sure it is as clear when looking at mammoth skulls vs modern elephant skulls? Maybe someone that is pretty experienced would help me spot the difference. I am looking at jaws & other bones for sale and I would not want to buy modern elephant bones. Thanks

    Tooth Identification Help

Hi again fellow fossil-lovers! I was fortunate enough to come across this beauty at a yard sale so no known origin of course. Ok, here's the fun part... To me, in my amateurish-style expertise, it looks like a Mastadon tooth, however, it appears WAY too white & clean in my opinion to be as old as claimed by geologic history. Can someone help me out here? Do I have a Mastadon tooth? An "Old Asian" Elephant? It's certainly not a replica, that much I know for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated & thank you to everyone who's helped me in my previous threads. You're all an awesome bunch!

    Elephant tusk Indonesia

I bought these (in Solo Indonesia), what the seller told me, to be fossils of an elephant. Now I am wondering if this is fake or real? They are heavy, sound solid, more or less kinda stone. What do you think?
