CANADA: Is this a REAL MEGALODON Tooth??

Hi there, I am hoping some experts could help me determine if this tooth is real or not. I did some research and it appears to be a megalodon tooth (possible fake?) from the Pungo River Formation. I found it at a thrift shop and my Fiance was pretty annoyed I would spend so much on a fake tooth. It is odd to find at a thrift shop/red cross so that is why i am asking as well... Curious what you guys think this could be worth if you in fact think it is real.. i measure the longest point from the tip to the root edge at just over 5.5" (its difficult to show this in a picture). -

Hi all, My sister recently purchased three trilobite fossils for next to nothing (at a thrift store), and I'm suspecting this one is fake or at least a composite. Don't see any preparation marks, and it smells like cement. Looks like it was cemented onto the grey rock. What do you guys think?

Awhile ago there was the craze about having an alleged partial dinosaur tail preserved in amber, then there was the ammonite and crinoids preserved in amber, but recently I have been seeing reports about a complete pteranodon that was found preserved in amber and that was set to be auctioned off. Over the past few months I have not seen any more reports about it and was wondering if anyone knew if it was a hoax (I imagine it was), or if someone out there really does now own this one-of-a-kind specimen? -
Orthoceras too long and tall to be real?

Hello all, I love reading the posts here and the knowledge base is amazing. Question, I came across these two specimens today and they seem really long "tall" and too perfectly straight to be real. They must be at least 4 foot tall. I have enclosed pictures and a close-up of a small section that is broken. Thank you all for the help. D -
I had purchased a lot of Madascar banded agates, and it looked too good to be true. So one was broken only to find a clear, banded pattern underneath about a millimeter thick colored outside. If one is like this, then I presume all is. I have spent alot of money purchasing these just to be fake? Please help me to be sure.

this is shocking... Christie’s Pulls T. Rex From Auction, Citing Need for ‘Further Study’ - The New York Times (nytimes.com) but, for my opinion its the right decision and Black Hills is absolutely right. I am a bit frustrated that the selled did not give the right infos about the T-Rex, no teeth are original, that it is a "cast" of Stan and no one really knows how many bones are original.... When a fossil like this will be offered for sale honesty is absolutely necessary! Hope the seller will be banned from Auction-Houses

Fossil Trilobite Real or Fake?

Hi everyone! I was recently gifted this trilobite fossil, but after taking a look at it, it seems as though it may not be authentic. Although I don’t see obvious evidence of resin casting, i.e. air bubbles, the specimen does lack lots of clear detail in the head and in the eyes. I’m hoping it’s just a bad prep job, but realistically I’m leaning towards it being a fake as I’ve seen many Moroccan fabrications similar to this one. Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you all so much for your help! -

Hello, my name is Max and I will begin collecting fossils. My passion for fossils and especially dinosaurs started when I was a child. I had lots of dinosaur toys, watched a lot of movies and documentations, studied facts about them and felt like a paleontologist with my excavation kits. My fascination for this prehistoric world has never been estinguished. That's why I decided to buy a tooth of a spinosaurus, which is one of my favorites. Hello, I was about to purchase this Struthiomimus specimen for my mother but I happened to come across this forum so I decided to make an account and post to see if you guys would be willing to offer any insight about the authenticity of these Struthiomimus claw & toe bones. The seller said he got the parts for this specimen from his friend that he has collected with before. He has plenty of testimonies going years back. Apparently the parts were all found within 10 miles of each other in Wilbaux County, Montana. -

Hello! First, does anyone know what the mineral composition of most keich fossils is? The common darkly colored ones? Or does it vary a great deal? I have some idea what to look for in the “normal” dark keich fossils, but this one appears to be composed of mostly quartz…? Or is it something else? This seems challenging to fake and the photos look convincing to me, but I have no experience in comparing these white keich specimens. Is this likely to be real? -

I could have this very nice looking Trilobite ID "ogyginus corndensis (murchison 1839) from gilwern hill, powys, wales. lower llanvirn, darwilian, ordovician"but i have a doubt,the sample seems for me too perfect to be real,the matrix is very light brown,could it be a fake?I only have this picture ,an Opinion? Quite regularly, questions turn up about the authenticity of Keichosaurus fossil specimens. Until now, most, if not all, were natural, but mostly just very poorly prepped. Would you like to show off "real" fakes, casts or replicas of Keichosaurus? I would like to get a feeling for them, at least from pics. However, certain fossils pop up every now and then that are obvious fakes, and not every buyer is diligent enough to know so. What we can do is to report these listings. Believe it or not, sometimes they do get taken down. To begin, say you notice a fossil you know is fake. Hi all, I picked up a Lot of 15 fossils and one very large whale vertebrae at an auction recently. Sadly it had all been treated as junk and several fossilised teeth had been broken, one tip lost, no identification or history attributed to the items. I find it quite sad when a fossil survives for 100+ million years in nature then gets wrecked immediately in someone’s care because it doesn’t make as much money as a pair of earrings . A while ago I purchased this hadrosaur tooth under the label "Parasaurolophus". The dealer said the tooth came from the Judith River Formation and appears to have the rippled side found in other pictures labeled as Parasaurolophus. My other hadrosaur teeth appear to be indeterminate, but this one seems unique, albeit in rough shape though. Can anyone verify that this is in fact Parasaurolophus? Thanks!

Beyond the mispelled name (Auronis in lieu of Aurornis) this horrible thing is clearly described by the seller as a fake, so there is no need of further discussions on that. I'm however curious about 1) the tecnique used, and 2) the commercial logic of producing such things and then selling them as fakes. It doesn't seem carved to me, and the posture is identical to the well-know first fossil that led to the species being identified. Perhaps someone managed to obtain a negative cast of the original, and now is using it as a mould to produce "n" copies? In any case, the whole affair requi
