Seeking advice on newly purchased Keichousaurus

Hi! I recently purchased the following Keichousaurus Hui. Although I have a modest fossil collection primarily consisting of Trilobites, this is my first Keichousaurus fossil. I had a chance to inspect the fossil first hand in the store before purchasing and while it looks quite nice to me, I would appreciate feedback from this group. IMHO, the piece is very attractive and presentable as a display piece (and it carried a correspondingly 'display piece' price!). I don't have any major concerns other than maybe the piece is too nice as it is nearly symmetrical, the detail is very fine, etc. Here is what I have observed: 1) The fossil is extremely 3D with well defined relief. Bones are thick, heavy, dark and well articulated. The fingers and toes in particular are very well defined. 2) The neck loop is very unique and the 'physical loop looks right' in that the bones go under and around each other in a believable way. 3) I did a very light acetone test on most bones, including the fingers and there was a bit of soil that came up. I did not see evidence of ink, nor did any of the bone detail wipe off. 4) The head is very detailed with needle like bones that might be teeth? 5) The matrix is soft and from the side is clearly layered. The back side of the matrix is flaking off and has a section that appears a little glossy... perhaps epoxy of some kind was used to shore up a weak back side? 6) There are thin cracks/striations that cross the specimen. These line up with the natural lines of the animal, so it does not appear that it is a composite. 7) There are no bubbles that I can see. 8) There appear to be a jumbled lump of bones in the gut... maybe the little guy's last meal? I have a ten day purchase guarantee from the seller and would love to keep this piece for display. Would appreciate the experts in this forum to help give me some confidence as to the quality of this piece, thank you! Jason

I am really considering aquiring this claw. I would have to sell some stuff for it but I really want to be sure. Handclaw of a Suchomimus. Niger. Besides the obvious repair and prep it needs. Do you guys see issues or things to avoid?

Hi, I know very little of fossils and bought these two spinosaurus teeth (did not pay much). Said to be from Kem kem. Afterwards I have realized that there are a lot of fake teeth on the market. One of the teeth I bought looks nice but maybe it has been repaired? The other one looks not so nice. Is it a mixture of sand and glue on it? Gluing three pieces together. Or can a tooth look like this when it is found? Even if they have been repaired and/or glued, they are still real fossils right? Both are about 2.5 inch. /Johan

Possible Eggs from Hunan Province

So these possible eggs (rocks) were acquired from a chinese dealer back in the 70's and somehow came to a local shop to me where they knew nothing about authenticating them. The information I was told is they are from the Hunan Province in China. They were told to have been placed in the matrix base. Measurements: Egg 1- 4"x4" Egg 2- 4"x4" Egg 3- 4.5"x4.5" I even got them CT scanned which you can see the kinda blurry results but i'm curious... Are they real?... If so what kind?

Location is kem kem beds, seller said less than 5% restoration. I know nothing about claws but this one almost looks too good to be true and too perfect but I’m not sure how to definitively tell if it’s real or fake

First time fossil buyer - was I duped at the Denver show?

Hello all, I've been a fossil admirer for many years and finally pulled the trigger to get a few pieces of my own this week at the Denver show. Regrettably, I didn't do any research into fakes beforehand - didn't even cross my mind, as this is an organized and seemingly reputable event. I bought two trilobite fossils and one brittle star. Each was from a different vendor, all of whom were from Morocco. When I started doing some reading to try to confirm their species after I got home, I found many resources about fake fossils including this forum. I now suspect that all three of my fossils are fakes, as I can see what appear to be pinholes from resin bubbles on them. I've attached some photos. The larger trilobite I got from a guy who had tons of different-sized trilobites in various positions on different bits of stone, and it has visible cracks where it's been reassembled. However it seems to have clear pinholes across its head. The brittle star seems like the most obvious fake after learning more about fakes, given the color and shininess plus the couple of pinholes. I'm not really sure what to do at this point - I still admire these pieces and find them quite beautiful. If they're casts of real fossils they retain some of their interest for me. But it feels really bad to have been duped, potentially three times, in my first foray into fossil collecting. I have half a mind to go back and confront the vendors (I paid two of them with zelle and have their names and information) but I'm not sure what would be gained. Is there some way I could notify the venue so that other buyers don't get swindled? Curious to hear people's thoughts on whether these are indeed all fakes, and what you would do in my place. Currently I'm leaning towards considering it a lesson and keeping them as pieces of art, but the bad taste does linger. Thanks for your time!

Mosasaur partial skeleton in matrix

Saw this Mosasaur skeleton for sale and I've been thinking for a while something like it would be cool. Unfortunately the auction site it is listed on has a bad record of fake or manipulated fossils and Mosasaurs in particular. I'm even more worried due to it being from Morocco. I highlighted some of the photos where the bones don't appear to align right or seem to be composited. Does this look manipulated? are sections entirely fake? does the matrix look genuine? Also it is listed as a Halisaurus arambourgi is that the correct identification? Thank you for your thoughts.

Hi all my first thread here… How to tell if this is a real saber tooth skull? Data I know so far makes me suspicious… Origin: Asia / Hong Kong Dealer: Private CoA: Nothing, only photos. Provenance: bought at a fossil fair in 1980 (so, nothing to validate here…) The skull was prepped with a liquid to prevent sucking up water from air. Kind regards flashy

I went to a local fossil show and saw some highly priced insects too good to be true. They were. Some were done quite well but my $15 30X loupe (magnifying glass) really made the fakes obvious. I took these pics at the show. Pic 1 is presumably a Neuroptera on matrix. Pic 2 is the same Neuroptera though the loupe and you can see it is an obvious forgery. It has been painted. Pic 3 is an obvious painted insect on a piece with 2 cretaceous Lycoptera fish, raising its selling price at least 50 fold. The abdomen in this case is especially badly done. Pic 4 is a different kind of fake, it is an Odonata that has been finely printed onto the matrix. With the loupe, I can clearly see the pixels of ink, but I couldn't get a convincing picture at the show. Walk softly and carry a big......................loupe. sorry, pics are not in the order I uploaded them, but you can figure it out

I have read a couple of threads in this forum regarding Barasaurus fakes but still have many doubts. If possible, I would greatly appreciate any input from this forum’s experts regarding this piece. Hadrosaur Hand claw/Ungual

I am looking for a nice Ungual claw. Hadrosaur. So this one looked nice in the first place. Says to be a PES claw from an Edmontosaurus. 2 11/16 x 2 3/4 in size. Hell Creek Fm., Garfield county Montana USA Is everything natural with this one or should i be searching for a better one?

Real or Fake & What is it?

I recently bought the "fossil" pictured below. I was told it was a dinosaur but that was all they knew. Because of the lack of information and the low price, I'm inclined to believe it is a fake. However, it looks very real, though I would guess it's an aquatic lizard, not a dinosaur. I wanted to get the opinion of those in this forum as to whether or not it is real, and regardless of authenticity, see if anyone knows what animal it is. The slab is about 9 x 5/12 inches (23 x 14 centimeters). Also note that my camera auto adjusts the pictures and adds extra contrast, making the fossil in the picture look extra dark and the slab lighter. The first picture is the most color accurate. Thank you all!
