Hi there everyone! I've recently been acquiring different fossils to add to my collection and I came across a listing for a carcharodontosaurus tooth that really interested me. Below are a few photos of the listing advertising the carcharodontasaurus tooth. The sellers themselves are very reputable and I am in no way questioning their validity as I'm sure the tooth is a real fossil. Instead, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me positively identify the fossil as a carcharodontosaurus tooth as I know many different teeth and fossils come from the Kem Kem Beds in Morocco. I got this trilobite fossil from my mom on Christmas. Something about it doesn't seem right to me. It doesn't look like other specimens I see online. What is up with the eye-like bumps on top of its head? Why is the head so smooth? I'm just a person casually interested in paleontology, so I am by no means an expert. I would appreciate it very much if I could get some insight from people who are knowledgeable in this field. Thank you. Hi!, Recently I've bought a Spinosaurus tooth, but my family keeps saying that it is fake. The tooth came in the display, so I couldn't get it open, but I can still see it with great details. Can someone confirm that it is a real tooth and not another fake? The website that I bought it from said the following: Spinosaurus tooth 1.3 inches, form Morocco no restoration. I went to a local fossil show and saw some highly priced insects too good to be true. They were. Some were done quite well but my $15 30X loupe (magnifying glass) really made the fakes obvious. I took these pics at the show. Pic 1 is presumably a Neuroptera on matrix. Pic 2 is the same Neuroptera though the loupe and you can see it is an obvious forgery. It has been painted. Pic 3 is an obvious painted insect on a piece with 2 cretaceous Lycoptera fish, raising its selling price at least 50 fold. The abdomen in this case is especially badly done. Hi all, First time fossil buyer. Purchased what appears to be a Spinosaurus tooth. This is a birthday present for my little boy who’s dinosaur mad. Wondered if anybody could shed some light on if they think this is real or not. The website notes it’s from Morocco and advised proof of authenticity will accompany the tooth. -
I have just come across some newly made fake dinosaur eggs from Ganzhou, China. Ganzhou has a large number of dinosaur eggs dug out from development sites but recently some people are producing fake eggs and sell them at a high price with real eggs from Ganzhou. Take a look of the fake eggs.

So I've just realized the "alligator skull" fossil my parents got me for Christmas last year is for sure a fake. I'm embarassed I didn't notice until trying to ID the species, the real mosasaur teeth threw me off. My parents really went all out spending a couple hundred dollars on this thing, it's the most expensive gift I've ever recieved. So I'm pretty upset they got scammed out of that much money. I imagine it's been too long to demand a refund, but is there anything I can do about this? Was this even legal? The place that sold it to us is an actual shop, not some shady pop-up vendor. I apo

I have been examining my megalodon teeth and even Ramanessin shark teeth and under the microscope I can usually see (presumably) enamel that had been laid down in thin lines that always turn and meet the tooth edges at a 90 degree angle. It is easiest to see in fossil teeth where the mineral coloring brings out these whitish lines. It is hard to see in extant white teeth. Here are 3 photos of what I mean. The horizontal lines are from the middle region of the meg tooth along the tooth axis. The picture with lines going both side-to-side and up-and-down is from the region near the edge. The pic

Hi everyone! I recently bought a collection of fossils that happened to include a Mosasaur tooth. I'm aware that Mosasaur teeth are very rarely faked since they're fairly common but mine has a "root". I was wondering if anyone could help me identify whether the tooth is real or not and if the root itself is authentic? Thank you! -
My new Spinosaurus Aegypticus tooth just came in. And it's a big one! Over 4'5 inches / 11.5 Centimeters long. Was wondering if you can see any doings with it? So far i can't.

Hello all, Recently I purchased a pair of tooth from a seller who sold me real keichousaurus and another real frog fossil based on forum opinions. He says this pair is from the same animal. I don’t even know if it’s Smilodon or Machairodus, nor do I have information about locality except that it was originally from China. Main reason I’m asking the forum is that as this is my first time owning saber cat teeth I’m not sure if they are always this light? 31-33 grams per piece only. It doesn’t seem cast with the great amount of detail. And about restoration it was broken and repaired, -

I live in NYC, and it was a real treat to see a street fair pop up on Broadway after all this covid stuff. Looked like the city was finally back to normal, including rock shop tents selling crystals and fossils off the sidewalk. I wish I'd taken a photo of the fossils, but this seller had four Claudiosaurus fossils that were obviously painted onto the matrix with a bit of dremel work to give them dimension. Price tag: a lot. Gotta be careful out there, friends. I've learned to be so wary from you guys, especially @Troodon.

Is my megalodon tooth real or fake?

I started collecting megalodon teeth about a year ago and this was my first tooth. Now that I have a few others, I’ve noticed possible discrepancies with the tooth. My other teeth have a grainy, gritty textured root but this one has a smooth textured root with a shiny appearance. The root of this tooth is also very smooth/slippery to the touch, whereas with my other teeth, the root is fairly rough to the touch. Also, where the enamel meets the bourlette, that is also quite smooth but on my other teeth, it is fairly sharp and jagged in comparison. Any advice is appreciated as I’m still fairly n -

Hello! I'm a new member and I was hoping I could get some second opinions on some Kem Kem fossils I'm thinking about purchasing. I've only collected American species, and have been recently interested in bones out of the Kem Kem beds. I've stayed away thus far because of the stories of composite fossils and Frankenstein pieces, but I've come across a couple that I thought were interesting and fairly priced. Dear All, I just wanted to make you all aware, (to my detriment) , some recent experiences I've has with purchasing Megalodon Teeth from Indonesia. This is not a name and shame post, simply my experiences with a 'grey area'. I've purchased many teeth recently and most are 100% A ok. However, the dealers are fully aware of the value realized from 5.5 inch plus teeth and this has resulted in a swathe of monster teeth being offered to the market. Hi all, I was recently gifted a lovely fossil from a friend. He told me it comes from a reliable digger from Sangiran and it is a rhino horn. However, I have my doubts Rhino horns as I understand, are made of keratin which means they do not fossilize easily. Also, this fossil here is almost surely a bone. My friend tells me it is permineralized keratin but I am not sure if I agree with that. While there are indeed lines that flow from the base to the tip, I can't tell if they are carved or not My friend mentioned this is a river find, hence the -
Hi all, I bought this from a car boot sale, from a seller who sells fossil's. The seller said it is a spinosauraus tooth. I had a look online and saw that spinosauraus teeth are typically rounder, whilst this is very pointed and quite thin. The seller did sell larger round ones, as well as these smaller more narrow teeth. I chose this one as it was the least broken. I can't really identify what a fake tooth would look like. Could someone tell me if they think this is a real tooth or not?
