  1. I was looking to buy this Keichousaurus fossil, but would like to hear some opinions on if it’s real or fake. Please help.
  2. Hi guys I'm new here! Hope to find everybody well! I just want to ask for your feedback around a specimen of Keichousaurus I'm nearly to buy. What do you think? Does it seems real and legit to you? Many thanks for your kind feedback. Cap
  3. Hi All, I am wondering if anyone can assess the authenticity of this Acadoparadoxides from Morocco? From what I can tell there is restoration on the right eye and maybe margin of the cephalon. Beyond that I think it is real. It does appear to be missing one thoracic segment but I am guessing this is taphonomic. I can take more pics as needed. Thanks for the help.
  4. Hello everyone! Me and daughter bought an ammonite fossil in Italy (mount vesuvius) this summer. We are totally naïfe and far below the level of knowledge of an amateur. Can anyone tell us if it’s a real one or a fake one? Thank you all for your precious help. best regards
  5. Hi all, I saw this cool looking piece in a rock store in a small US country town. There were many other fossils in the store but this one stood out to me with the contrast in the colors and reminded me of an alien creature. The store owner claimed it was real but I’m not entirely convinced. I loved the look of it so bought it anyway but thought I’d get your opinions on whether this was a real fossil in any way or just a pretty bit of art? It appears to be a part of the slab of rock and if it is carved they’ve done a very good job at getting all the details into this solid rock. Thanks!
  6. I am told this is an fossiles egg from dendroolitihus sp. It should be real, but who knows?
  7. Hi there! I'm new to the forum. I recently picked up a mosasaur jaw, my first fossil. Question is it real or fake, I started doing the research after making the purchase.. Comparing it to other examples, it's somewhere in the middle. It doesn't look totally manufactured, but it also kind of looks to good to be true. Opinions?
  8. I bought this fossil not long ago. It’s supposedly a genuine caudal vertebrae from a dryosaurus. It was found at bone cabin quarry. I believe it is real, but I wanted a little assurance.
  9. Hi, Purchased this Baltic Amber from Lithuania. Tried the black light test and the very clear amber turns opaque cream like color. Please see pics. Is this possibly fake? Thanks!
  10. I am bidding on a few items right now and two I am not 100 percent sure on. The first bug, I am hoping not to win, and then I won't have to retract the bid. The second one, I already was outbid, but it is still cheap.
  11. Hi I realise a lot of these jaws are faked now from looking online, I wonder if you had any thoughts on this jaw, I’m leaning towards your usual Moroccan forgery but would love to get your input, thanks!!
  12. Found this online, something about it seems off. If anyone could help me find out if it's fake I'd appreciate it.
  13. Has anyone ever seen a Keichousaurus that died giving birth (or died and went into labor)?
  14. Hello All. I am curious as to the groups assessment as to the authenticity of this Acadoparadoxides specimen from Morocco. It measures roughly 13 inches in length (the fossil itself). I see restoration of the right eye (as in right side of the photo) and right portions of the glabella, but beyond that am fairly hopeful/comfortable that the specimen is authentic. It is interesting that an upper thoracic segment is missing, but I am thinking this could be taphonomic or that segment was lost when the rock split. Anyway, I value any thoughts and input. I'm happy to share more photos as well. Thank you.
  15. This is supposed to be a Xantho (Lophoxanthus) Scaberrimus from West Java,Indonesia. It looks blatantly fake to me (no articulations on the chelae!?) - or, do such "carving like" fossils actually exist? Several are being on offer now on that auction site, which is doubly suspicious. Thanks in advance
  16. Is this a real T-rex tooth? this tooth belong to someone i know. He claimed that he got a big rex tooth from USA (no more specific locality). Here are Three pictures I have. What do you guy think??
  17. Hi all! I'm curious if this fossil I'm thinking of getting is real or fake!
  18. Came across this piece. Its advertised as being a juvie spinosaurus jaw with some of its teeth/roots still intact. Looks shady as heck to me and even if its 'real' it looks more like those elosuchus jaw parts you might find online. What do you guys say?
  19. Hi guys I recently bought this as a replica but having seen nothing like it I’ve been wondering about it’s authenticity to me the fish seems like a decent real fossil , however the turtle seems sculpted and the flippers are all off, the rock seems Like real fossiliferous lagersatte rock With fossil remains apparent on the back what do you thinks?
  20. Hi guys was wondering if this looks authentic? What would be a fair price to sell as? Dimensions are 25cm by 15cm. Kindest regards, Jake
  21. hello everyone, a few days ago surfing the internet I came across a site of fossils from asia. scrolling through the various offers I noticed this skull, the description reported only that it belonged to an unspecified myocene carnivore. All in all the price was quite low for what seems to be the quality of the piece. To a more careful investigation it would seem a hyaenidae even if the present matrix makes identification quite difficult, however still there is something that does not convince me. the matrix seems intentionally put to cover part of the skull. What do you think about it? Even if the price is cheap it's still to high for my poor pockets, so noway I would ever buy it. However it intrigued me alot.
  22. Hey everyone, I just got this beautiful cave bear jaw and I was wondering if it is real. It was found in Romania. Three of the teeth are a bit loose from the jaw and one of them can actually be removed. The tooth that can be removed is hollow. It looks like a juvenile due to the fact that not all of the teeth have grown in yet. Do you think it’s authentic? Thanks!
  23. I’ve had this for a while, and always assumed it was real. I saw a video of someone looking at fake teeth, and they said you could tell because you could see bubbles in the tooth from if it was a mold of some sort. It’s a little over 5 inches long, and I believe it was an Atlantic Ocean find, but I don’t remember much more about where it was supposedly found. I circled the area that I thought looked the most bubble like, but I’m not really sure what to think. Any help is appreciated.

    Real or Fake? Crinoid

Hello, we asked some of our friends to see if they could find us a nice fossil overseas. It was meant as a surprise for me from my parents, so we couldn't see the fossil beforehand. First of all, they say the fossil is "painted" to bring out its features, this already sounds very fishy. Secondly, the rock it is on looks like an igneous rock, I thought the fossil baring rocks where supposed to be sedimentary. They took the fossil to different stores to verify its authenticity, but few people said it looked fake. I would like to know because it was quite expensive for an ameture fossil collector, and especially for a fake! If it is real, which is doubtable, then is there any way to remove the paint?
