Hi, I'm pretty sure this is a favosite coral but how does one determine the species? It was found in a middle Pennsylvanian formation. I had to leave the base of this coral until I can go back with some tools to hopefully successfully remove it. Measurement is 100mm x 80mm and 70mm tall. Any coral experts out there to narrow this down? Thank you, Kato

Today, I found one small piece of fossil-like thing in a sandstone rock. I found it in a valley, where there is one small river with rocks which contain many brachiopods, coral, favosites fossils. But this one is different, it is in one piece of soft sandstone rock, others are in harder rocks. Western boarder of the great basin of Sichuan, China. petal_20221129_222903.mp4

Hi, I found this fossil along the Thames River in London Ontario. The area I'm in is part of the Dundee Formation which is Devonian. Can anyone identify/confirm if this is a Favosite coral? Thank you!

I would like to start present some of my coral finds, or what I believe are corals. The first are from Tyrifjord lake area in Norway, I am uncertain of the formation, but I believe it is Ordovician of age. Although one paleontologist told me that the area has Silurian sandstones of Early Silurian age, a geological map I found also includes some Ordovician outcrops. These I presume are favosite corals. Is it possible ID their order, genus or species? Their sizes are about 10-12 cm long. I am not sure these are sandstones or limestones. I found this today. I think it's a really weathered tabulate coral fossil, but what I'm curious about is, I've never found one so weathered that the top of the tabulae are not visible anymore/gone. the fossil in the back is the most weathered coral fossil I've found thus far, and even that one has the open ends of the tabula still intact/identifiable. Also weird is, that brown-ish part of the rock has something sparkling in it. like, little lines? It's weird, I've never seen lines on a rock quite like this. I'm assuming the brown is iron oxide? I've never seen that and quartz/mica/whatever on the same rock. I'm probably using the wrong terminology for all this. Forgive my noobness. I know this is a tough ID, and might not be possible, but I'm open on ideas. It might not even be a fossil at all, although tabulate corals come in a variety of shapes right ? hmmm.

Hello everyone! Today I finally received a fish mortality plate (Pic 1) I had bid on a long time ago. Oddly though it turns out I had bid on multiple items and found this block of what appears to be fossil shells with coral structures at the bottom. After some googling I think it might be favosite? Any help is appreciated as I know little about fossil shells and corals. Unfortunately the providence is unknown, as no information was provided. Pic 1- Leptolepsis fish plate.
