There are cross hatch patterns in the wood making it almost look woven. The rock imbedded in it or attached to it looks like amber. its bright yellow and dark when no light is behind it. The amber or agate looks like it has some of the same fiber pattern around the edges.

I was doing an initial cleaning of this piece to categorize, label and store for future preparation. I do this by brushing the loose dirt off with a natural bristled paint brush and then a quick cleaning with my dust collector to pick up some of the finer particles. This time, while using the dust collector, a little surprise popped out. My first thought was tube worm, well preserved and free enough for the suction to pull it out. Thankfully it didn’t detach! I was wondering if this is a common occurrence. Has anyone else experienced this? And do you agree that it’s most likely a tube worm? thanks! -Sean apologies for the standard measuring tape. This is a fossil that a friend gave me. I have no idea where it originated, although CO or NE could be a good guess. Any idea what it is? It is very fine. It looks to me like a feather, but under the microscope it doesn't have any of the features of a feather. The fibers are just straight and very thin. The pictures are of the two opposing sides, which fit together.

Going through a bix of rocks picked up west of seals, TX and ran across this rock. I assume I picked it up because it was different than the rocks around it but after walking the dirt off noticed the lighter colored pieces throughout and then saw the green material in it. I would appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this item? Geological or something else?
