Hello! Anyone have a good recommendation for a brand of phone case they’ve used in the field that successfully kept dirt out of all the phone holes? Phone crannies? I’d like to start taking more pictures out in the field but I work in a really dirt heavy scree (might sound redundant but really, especially dirty) and know it’s impossible with what I’m currently using. Also obviously durability is a factor too. Probably waterproof as well so it could be rinsed off easily after. Thanks for your time!

This might seem off-topic, but this could be a problem with using certain vehicles for off road rock and fossil hunting. I am curious if this has happened to anyone in the field? The worst that happened to me was the stearing assembly and key locked up on our four-wheel drive vehicle, while the archaeological survey crew, whom I was working for, were about 20 - 30 miles away from any help. The foothills of North Park, Colorado, were beautiful, but it was gettting dark for such a long walk. We had to gently rock the vehicle, which was in four-wheel drive, back and forth until we could turn the key and get going. The most embarassing was driving onto a sand wash thinking it was a road while geological mapping in the Peason Ridge Military Reservation, Louisiana. It was so stuck that, the other geologist and I partially melted the battery clamps in unsuccessful attempts to winch the four-wheel drive out out of the sand. Finally, we had to swallow our pride and walk to the local guard post and drive back with a couple of soldiers, who winched us out with a Humvee. It was fun getting to ride in real military Humvee. Hi Everyone, I am trying to figure out my summer plans right now. I'm going to be going into my senior year of highschool. I'm hoping to spend the summer or part of the summer focusing on fossils and paleontology. My dream would be to find a program where housing is provided that i could be out in the field collecting fossils. In my dream world, fossils to study and keep for myself, but again, realistically, just any work out in the field collecting and searching for fossils. I am especially interested in fossils from the miocene period but I would be perfectly content to go collecting and maybe even study fossils from other periods. I'm not terribly interested in plant fossils, but everything from ammonites to trilobites to shark teeth to mammals is of great interest to me. I live in Massachusetts so it would most likely have to be out of state in which case it would need to be something that could provide housing. Doesn't have to be an official job with a specific museum or anything. Maybe a job or internship at a fossil quarry or something like that. Maybe working with a museum to go on collection trips. That kind of thing would be amazing. Any advice or leads would be a tremendous help. Thanks in advance!

Is there any way of professionally labeling specimens out in the field? I'm creating a field journal documenting all of my finds, whether archeological or paleontological, and Id like to hear some methods of proper labeling of my finds. Usually I wrap the specimens I store with cheesecloth or even paper towels, cushioned with cotton, then I would label a specimen like the example below: species: paralejuris (Trilobite) date found: June 5, 2006 location: Morroco, Atlas Mt. Range last opened: 6/8/6
