  1. (Blushing, nervous giggling) I'm Sally from Hartsville, Tennessee in the USA. My third and last child just graduated high school, and my 3 stepkids have given us 6 awesome grandkids. I've been fascinated with all fossilized things since I was about 25 when I moved into the hills and "hollers" of TN and began finding crinoids in our creek-rock driveway. Thank you so much, forum, for existing! And for those of you who give your time to share your knowledge with us. I'm fully obsessed and have tons of stuff to inquire about. One question... how much is too much? ...Just kidding... ...(not really)
  2. I as well am just getting my feet wet and hoping to learn without being shredded apart for being so wrong. Lol. I am in SE NM rural part and have so many fossils, artifacts, effigies (I think). Just want clarity before they start hitting my shops. Some of today's favorites:

    Hello from the Boston area!

    Hello from Eudora, KS!

Hello! I’ve been on this site for a while now but I haven’t formally introduced myself. I have been interested in paleontology for quite a while and I am hoping to go to KU (Rock Chalk!), for paleontology when I graduate high school. I have lived in Kansas my whole life and thanks to 4-H, I have had the pleasure of hunting all around Kansas. I think my favorite place to hunt has been out in Western Kansas in the Niobrara Formation.
  5. MarkusMorkus

    Hi from Melbourne, Australia

G'day everyone! I'm Mark. I'm actually here for an ID, but I didn't want to just barge in and be like gimme gimme, yknow, so I thought the very least I could do is to introduce myself first. So truth be told I'm not really a fossil guy, with no real interest or knowledge beyond thinking they're cool. What I am is a hobby gold prospector...and it was while doing that when I came across some fossils I'd like to have ID'd. Despite not being a "fossil guy" I have nonetheless been enjoying reading through the forums over the past couple of days nand seeing everyones collections and finds. It has certainly piqued my interest. Maybe one day I could be a "fossil guy"! Haha. But being a gold prospector I definitely see and appreciate the appeal of a fossil hunt. Perhaps I'll head out on a dedicated hunt some day myself...but I've got a lot to learn before I could even consider that. Anyway I'll be floating around. Not sure how much I'll contribute though as I dont think I'll have much to add of value beyond "ohhh thats cool!" type of thing.
  6. I was looking to buy this Keichousaurus fossil, but would like to hear some opinions on if it’s real or fake. Please help.
  7. Hi! I've been a great admirer of this forum for years. The counter-septarian structure thread... *chef's kiss* My brother-in-law sent me this picture and asked if I thought it might be a dinosaur fossil. I told him probably not, but that I knew just where to ask to find out what it is, or might be. All I have is this photo, but based on the circular kitchen-thing it's sitting on I'm guessing maybe around 8-10" in size. My uninformed guess is it's a plant stem if it's anything. I'd love to read your educated guesses. THANKS!!!
  8. Hi everyone my name is Jon and I’ve been into fossils my entire life and have been hunting them for the last 5ish years. I’m currently in the process of cleaning, organizing, etc all the fossils Ive found in the last couple years just in the WNY region (there’s a lot more than I originally thought). Theres a trilobite and a nautiloid Im super stoked about (the nautiloid has fossilized soft tissue!) Aside from fossils I also love unearthing bones, artifacts, arrow heads, rocks/minerals and metal detecting. My main goal this coming year is to finally find a pyritized trilobite. Ive come close with pieces, but a full pyritized trilobite has been my great white buffalo.
  9. Il-Malti

    Hello from Malta!

Hello from the island of Malta! I have had an on-and-off interest in fossils since I was young, and although I am not collecting fossils at the moment I still find them fascinating. I hope to learn more about fossils from the experts and knowledgeable collectors on this forum. All the best!
  10. I've read the forum with enjoyment for quite a while, and now I think it's time to join in. We mainly have ancient sea beds around here, with the most interesting fossils (to me anyway) coming from the Ordovician layers of road cuts. But it's fun to see all the other things people find in far-away places!

    Purse Beach Find

Hi, friends! First time poster here. We found this interesting one at Purse Beach, Maryland. Any thoughts. Thanks! PurdyFamilyFossils ... and please forgive my lack of professional photography skills.
  12. Hello all! I will use this post to serve two purposes: introduction and fossil logging. I am a 19 year old boy from Northern Va. who recently joined this community after eyeing down old posts trying to find a general idea about how/where/when to begin fossil hunting. After a little research, I finally embarked on my first journey Dec 2018 and have been hooked on fossil hunting since. Now, I found this collection of fossils 12/26/19 at Matoaka Beach Cabins after 3 hours and with the help of my sister. Feel free to comment whatever, ask anything, or whatever else may brewing in your head. - Timmy.
  13. Hello, I'm Jess. I'm currently an undergraduate student studying biology with a concentration in natural history. I started working in fossil preparation a few months ago after being given a green river fish to work on by a professor at my school. I loved working on it so much that I signed up for a class on museum work and now work on fish fossil prep several days a week. I was drawn to paleontology because of my interest in modern dinosaurs, birds!
  14. ChiHenry

    Hello, everyone!

Newbie here. I'm glad to have found this great online fossil discussions community. I'm hoping to learn more from the other members here. Cheers!
  15. Yulee is just north of Jacksonville. (No one knows where Yulee is.) My daughter and I frequently hit the beach on Amelia Island and Ponte Vedra looking for shark teeth. I find it a fun and relaxing hobby.
