Okay, when I say backyard, actually a creek bed just over the backyard fence. The creek is a main drainage of the Northwest flanks of Mt. Diablo in the SF Bay Area, CA, USA. Every winter rocks and boulders wash down the creek, so I cannot know the specific geological time zone, but we've found other fossils here (future posts coming). Looks like it could be fossil to me, and my imagination leads to thoughts of maybe fish? or mollusk? Figured it'd be worth a shot posting this up to see if anyone sees something identifiable. Thanks in advance! RCD

I inherited what I believe are Miocene fossils and am trying to identify as many as I can. I hope I'm not being a pain. The fish fin has a label which says Punga River Scute and that's all I have to go on. Most other fossils provided only common names such as with the fish fin. Any thoughts?

Been cleaning conodonts when I came across this in Pennsylvanian Stark Shale member between Winterset and Bethany Falls limestone in Kansas City. took me almost as long to get the lighting and focus in perspective as it did to clean it!. Is it reasonable to say this is a fin rather than a scale?......and any thoughts on taxa or even species? As usual, thanks all!! Bone

Everything was pretty well picked over in my regular spots so I took a thirteen mile eleven hour hike with a friend at the North Sulphur River Texas. Here's my finds. The mosaaur tooth, fish fin with verts, fish occipital condyle and the big Tylosaur vert made my day. The water moccasins were mating and did not appreciate us walking by. They both took the time to open their mouths and warn us to get away.

"digging" around in my Winchell fm micro matrix, I found a few interesting items. One I think may be a bone of some sort from something & 2 other may be fins. The bone is 9 mm in length, the larger fin is 1 cm & the smaller one is 5 mm. First set is the bone. Both sides, both ends & an angle of one end.
