Good evening, I'd like to ask if anyone knows if it's possible to find fish fossils in jurassic mudrock. As far as I can tell, it must be exceedingly rare in Slovakia.

I'm brand new to Fossil Forum, and can't afford the big splashy wall display fossils, so my "collection" is modest, but it's a start. I have three of these fern plates from St. Clair, PA, and two diplomystus fish fossils from the Green River formation in Wyoming.

I had a fun hike at the North Sulphur River Texas yesterday. I figured it would be picked over but I found a pretty remote spot with my 4x4. The one sawfish tooth I found in a small creek a few days before. Everything else is from yesterday. It was a great day for Cretaceous coprolite (Poo). @GeschWhat The one coprolite is full of fish verts, bones and fins.

This spring break (March 17th-23rd) my girlfriend and I are planning a trip in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. It looks like most of the big dig sites are closed for the season, which was a disappointment for us to see. The tentative plan was to go through Kemmerer from Salt Lake (home,) and hit the digs sites there, go through Vernal to the Quarry and the Prehistoric Museum there, then to Dinosaur National Monument in Colorado with a possibility of hitting Price Utah and the Cleveland Lloyd Quarry on the way back. Without any of the digs open, it seems like we're just trying to find simple things to kill our time, but we'd rather be out doing more engaging fossil hunting or learning. Does anyone have recommendations for areas somewhere nearby where our travels will take us? Any suggestions for digs, museums, cool fossil shops, or even just pretty places to camp are all welcome and greatly appreciated!

I need help identifying the attached fossil. It is split into two pieces but can combine into one. It was acquired from a local estate sale so I do not know any details about it. Please help.

Greetings! I was totally captivated by this and snapped it up at our Gem Society Auction, a donation , and I have no information on it. Appears to be in a slab of shale? Imprint is about 3" long (pen next to it in photo 1 to show width of slab) Photo 3 is the backside of it. Any help appreciated - especially just to know if I was an implusive idiot to bid on this!

Tooth found on Sanibel Island, FL. Does not seem like a shark tooth, to me.

Hi, my daughter found this in the ocean off of Sanibel Island, Florida US. We tried comparing it to shark teeth, but it doesn't seem to match any that I've seen. Hopefully someone here can solve our little mystery! Thank you for looking! I am going to attach the other photos in subsequent posts because I am getting an error that I am only allowed to upload 3.95MB, and each photo is only around 1mb so I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

I am after a bit of help please. I have a fish nodule with a crack that has separated. How do I go about repairing it? I can either attempt this myself. What glue/joining agent do I use? Is this straight forward? Bearing in mind I have never attempted this before. I would also be open to having someone knowledgeable do this for me. If it doesn't end up costing me a fortune. Does anyone in the UK know of someone reliable. I am at work. Will post photos later Thanks

Although we are currently in the depths of February, spring is just around the corner! With spring comes spring break and a week of digging!! One of the locations I am planning a visit to is Jamesville quarry in Jamesville NY. I would love to unearth some nice placoderm pieces. If anybody has info about the site, especially who to contact for permission, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Hello everyone! My name is Mike. I have been somewhat obsessed with fossils, dinosaurs, and natural history in general from a very young age. I go to beaches on Lake Michigan in Michigan and Indiana during the summer, and like to find crinoid pieces, horn coral, and stuff like that. I also really, really like to take trips to Florida to fish, fossil hunt, catch lizards, etc. While in Michigan, where I live, I like to fish, hunt, fossil hunt, play video games, hang out with family and friends, and get tattoos a couple times a year. I am a senior at Western Michigan University currently. I took a class called Dinosaurs a few semesters ago and it was super cool. I've got a very realistic trilobite tattoo, got it a few months ago. I also have the Jurassic Park Silhouette rex, a realistic velociraptor skull, a realistic triceratops and centrosaurus, the mosasaur from Jurassic World chasing the shark, and a megalodon tooth with a great white swimming, very realistic. I have 11 others as well, but the ones mentioned at least somewhat relate to this site. I have some fossils that I will post for help identifying. My whole family likes to fossil hunt. I went to New York with family last May to find trilobites and other marine fossils at Penn-Dixie Fossil Park. Very cool place, and I highly recommend it. I'm planning on making a trip south sometime in the near future to find shark teeth and anything else around. Well, enough about me. I hope to meet some cool people on here and see some interesting finds!

Made it out to the North Sulphur River yesterday and found a couple of interesting pieces of bone. One was a small jawbone that may be mosasaur but may be small enough to be from some type of fish, not sure. The other piece was one of the largest that I have found but is an odd shape and I am not sure if it may be from a mosasaur, most of the material from this area falls into that group? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hey guys! I was in one of my favorite Pennsylvanian spots in East Kansas finding the usual brachs and bryos when all of a sudden this popped out at me. Any ideas as to what it might be? I’ve never seen something like this in my area before. Thanks.

Rhacolepis composite?

Hello, I've been offered this Rhacolepis, it seems it got broken and then repaired, plus it seems there's some paint shade around the specimen. Today I was working on my Otodus vertebrae cluster from Morocco and I found this. I found many bones and fish vertebrae in the cluster but nothing like this so far. Is it a tooth? I think it is but will like confirmation. If it is a tooth is it possible to identify the species? Length is about 4cm.

I really do not feel I can say what I think this is, as last time I jumped in, made a mess . Okay I found this fossil about five years back in Cheshire , UK . I was walking in a field , I had my metal detector, I could see a farmer on a tractor. Having walked towards him , he put his head out of his door , shouted yes , I just pointed to the ground and to the detector. I made a sweeping motion with my detector. The farmer shouted over his tractor engine yes, do what you want. After detecting for a time, I noticed the stones looked kinda strange and started putting some in my pockets . after a short time my coat was heavy, had to get to my car , I found a few cool stones by the road, including this one.

So, one of my other hobbies besides fossil hunting, is fish keeping. Right now, I have a 20 gallon tank with a diverse population of organisms. I'm hoping to turn it into a reef tank, but corals and their appropriate lights are very expensive ( $200+ ). I only have live rock, fish and inverts right now. Anyway, here are 2 pics of some of the inhabitants, a small thin striped hermit, clibanarius vittatus and a white sand-sifting starfish, astropecten polycanthus. If there is any interest in seeing more of the tank, I will add more pictures. Enjoy
