Hi Fossil Hunters, These finds are quite the mystery to me. I found them on a Tampa Bay Beach, Florida at different times but they look alike. One side looks like wood grain. The flip side looks smooth and shiny. The edges appear milky pearly white and jagged. All 3 are slightly curved. At first glance I thought they were a stingray barb, then some type of worked seashell. Ruled them out. Are they a man-made tool or natural? What is the material? Petrified wood? Possibly mammoth bark or is this wishful thinking, lol. Please help. Thanks!

Hi All, I found this chunk of fossilized bone on the beach in Tampa Bay, Florida, USA. It's approximately 2" x 1" and appears to be broken off on both ends. It has distinct features, like a straight spine down the middle that tapers on one end and divides or forks into two bones on the other end. My only guess is a part of a Marine mammal Vertebra? All IDs are appreciated. Thanks Lynn

Picked this up yesterday. It is easy to get excited on a small package. Looks like G. aduncus symphyseal but is much wider than the ones I see on a google search.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Got a few IDs to confirm and a couple to check before adding to my shadow boxes. Depending on answers, I might have to re-open one and squish a piece in. These were all collected from the Peace River with FRE guided tour on 26/12/23 (as in previous posts). side note: I took these photos through my lighted standing magnifying glass and was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked! I will definitely be continuing with this moving forward. Please excuse the very scratched measuring lines on the stand; proof of why it's important to wear eye protection and a mask during fossil preparation! 1. I think these are all turtle spurs. The last two images are the same object, but wouldn't fit well into a collage.

Shark Teeth from the Peace River, Arcadia, Florida
citronkitten posted a topic in Member Collections
Greetings, I wasn't sure the best place to post this as when I try to 'create new content' as a 'gallery image' I can't actually select an image category; I can see 'sharks rays and skates' as an option, but when I click it nothing happens. Anyway, thought the most generalized area would be the next best bet. Here is the shadowbox I made from the shark teeth we found on our guided trip to the Peace River in Arcadia, Florida on 26 Dec 2023. We were out for almost 5 hours with Sean from Fossil Recovery Exploration, and even he said we did very well! We were particularly pleased with the pyritised partial (2/3) megalodon tooth! I know now that some of the Sand Tiger teeth are likely just Lemon Shark teeth...but oh well. One of the Mako teeth might be wrong, too, although not sure. Really pleased with how the display came out, overall. Thanks for looking!- 10 replies
