  1. Found in Williamsburg County, SC. I'm new.
  2. Hello to all. I would appreciate some help identifying if this is a fossil and what it may be. I found it in a canyon in San Diego and plan on taking it to our local natural history museum if it turns out that is something worth taking. Thank you in advance for your help.
  3. Hi all, Fairly new to the forum. As I posted in the welcome forum Hello from Santa Cruz, CA with a tub full of fossils!, I have a tub full of fossils that I only know which a few actually are (see my photo in that post). There are somewhere around 50 fossils that I honestly don't even know where they came from, where they were dug up, etc. I've had a lot of help from other folks to try to identify a couple of them. However, as I've learned, if I truly don't know what part of the world/country the given fossil came from, it's very difficult to find out what the fossil actually is. I still have so many more in this tub that I would like to have identified. I don't want to waste anyone else's time on this forum by posting new threads and photos when I'm asking about fossils of which I don't know the origin. So my current question is: Does anyone know of a museum, a specialist, anyone/any avenue in CA state (preferably near Santa Cruz 95062) that I could physically take all of these 50+ fossils to for identification, in the hope that if they are inspected physically that I may be able to figure out at least what some of them are? My previous specific Fossil ID posts for reference: Unidentified, possibly lower femur bone from a dinosaur? What is this tusk / horn?
  4. I found this on a recent hike in a creek bed. This is a raised impression and is shaped like a carrot. Does anyone know what this is? Is it a fossil of something? Thanks in advance.

    Mystery Utah Rib

My third post here on the forum, I think I'm getting the hang of this and just want to say a quick thanks for everyone who's responded to my posts! This is what I believe to be a rib bone, it was collected from the Grand County area of Utah around the town of Moab. I am unsure as to what formation it's from (my best guess is Morrison) as the old timer I got it from had forgotten just about all the info on it sans the fact that it was legally collected back in the 70's. It isn't complete and I'm fairly certain some of the free floating bits don't go where they are actually placed on the display. Any ideas/opinions on what time period its from and what kind of animal it belonged to are greatly appreciated! Also, if there's anything more that I need to do on my end to help in the identification process please let me know.

    Spinosaur VS Crocodilian Tooth

Curious as to weather or not this is a Spinosaurus tooth, as advertised, a misidentified Crocodilian tooth, or a fake. I'd also like to learn about how to tell the difference between the three so any/all tips and pointers are greatly appreciated! It's from Morocco (as I'm sure just about every "Spinosaurus" tooth that's commercially available is from) and I picked it up at a local rock shop. Huge thanks in advance to anyone/everyone who takes a look! IMG_3879.HEIC IMG_3880.HEIC IMG_3881.HEIC IMG_3882.HEIC IMG_3883.HEIC

Peace River find, I have no idea

Was gonna toss this lil guy back but the shape captured my attention and is so interesting, I figured I'd ask if anyone knows what it could possibly be? Found in the Peace River near Charlie Creek in Arcadia Florida. Dime sized. Thank you!

ID of fossil bone cut by humans?

After learning about the burn test, I tried this bone that I was skeptical of after learning that my coyote jaw was a modern bone. After the test this fossil did not smoke or turn black, so I am more confident that it isn't a regular bone. It looks to be a fossilized leg or wrist bone of some sort, and there are visible cut marks on the bone. It appears to have been fairly cleanly cut off, which was another reason I was worried about its age. I don't have the whole bone to go off of but it measures 10.5 cm to the longest point where the joint area is, 1.9 cm wide at the narrow end, and 2.5 cm wide at the base of the joint. The area where it would have connected to another bone or bones is 2 cm long and about 3cm wide. Photos show the structure of the bone, and if anyone knows what it could be I'm really interested in learning more about it. Found in north central Florida in the same area as the previous bone I posted.
  9. Anybody know what these are? Biggest in the image is about 35 x 25 mm and smallest is about 20 x 20 mm. Found on north Florida beach.

    Fossil identification needed

About 3x2.5 millimeters, found on beach in North Florida.

    Fossil identification help

Found these on Caspersen beach. Not sure as to what either could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance
  12. My son found this fossil in Southwest Florida about 6 miles from the beach. The area was dug up for some construction and some recent rains revealed this fossil. We looked it up but cannot determine exactly what it is. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Please help me ID this Fossil

I saw this fossil for sale in Colorado labeled as a Archaeopteryx (second picture) by it it looks nothing like an Archaeopteryx. I google image searched the picture and the only look alike was on a website for Japanese travel photos (first picture) and I believe it was at a dinosaur museum in Japan. I'll put both pictures below! Please help me identify

    Trilobite cheek?

Fossil forum, This is another fossil from the Leighton fm. I have just uncovered it, and at first thought it was a trilobite cheek. On closer inspection I realized that the external and internal mold are not smooth, but appear slightly porous. As well as this, the ridge appears too high in both molds. Any help on its id would be appreciated. Here are some pictures of it (internal mold on the left, external on the right):

    Chonetes species brachiopod id

Fossil forum, This is yet another fossil from the Leighton Fm, Maine, which is Silurian. I have found multiple specimens of this species, but none with such exceptionally preserved hinge spines. I think that it is in the genus Chonetes, maybe even Chonetes bastini, which is known from this formation, but I am not sure. Here are some pictures of it (internal molds on the left, external on the right):
