found this small stone with what seems to be a worm on it ... is there such thing as a worm fossil? I have heard of worm castings but this is different. the last three pics are a closer view. gravel load from brazos river west of houston texas

Me again here guys. Well, I just stepped on this fossil on that auction website and it caught my attention because of the round shape of the rock. As a newbie that seemed weird to me.... Would an echinoid fossil have this round aspect (Third pic speaks for what I mean)? (I don't know if I'm clear on what I'm meanbut somehow it seems fake to me...) Can anyone give more information on how to detect the fakes? Thanks in advance

Hey guys. I have recently acquired rare shark teeth from Ryazan, Russia. I could offer some for trade. Found this tooth while ago.Still not sure to which animal this belongs to.I know that it could be one od these two : Bison or Cow.I Found it last year in a Stream in the middle of the forest when i was looking for Oysters (Gryphea gingensis) in Paraćin,Serbia.People do not live near that forest but maybe they lived in some past.

Found on Myrtle Beach. I've been picking up a lot of bone that is quite obvious to me in its look and texture, but this is a strange piece and I'm not convinced it's bone at all. The only reason I haven't given up on it is because it has two colors - the outside is black, the inside is brownish. Thoughts?

Hey guys, This tooth was recently purchased by a family member and they gave it to me as a Christmas present. They don't know much about fossils and thought it was the real deal. However soon after getting my hands on it I could tell it was a fake or at least partially a fake. The root was too big and it smelled kind of strange. I didn't have the heart to tell my family member that it was fake. It had only been in the draw around 10 days and it literally started falling apart. At this point we tried to contact the seller as they had listed it as a real genuine tooth (they mentioned small restorations but not that the entire root was fake). I didn't get a reply and this angered me as it wasn't cheap. It cost over £400. The guy is still selling fakes and people are buying them. I don't want anyone to feel as disappointed as I did. He even has a fake tooth on there right now. It's frustrating because it ruins it for everyone else who is interested in collecting real fossils. As mentioned the whole root was fake and was like a pink putty. After poking around more the whole thing crumbled in my hand. Even the tooth itself had strange white stuff embedded in it and started to chip off. I'm sure many of you are great at spoting fakes but perhaps this could help a new member or someone who's not sure about these kind of things. Thanks for reading!

I just recently bought one of my most expensive fossils and wanted to know if there's anything i need to do to prevent cracking / chipping. Its a partial antler of a Megaloceras giganteus . It came with a card saying it was treated for that but not to keep it in a room with a ton of humidity . anything else i should do , or is it going to be fine?

About a year ago I came across a fossil hunt report in Morocco and fall in love with the trilobites. From another website, I saw picture of Morocco crinoids plate and I just wish I have them. Last week I found a trip in groupon to Morocco for 15 days. Then I find there are many fossil hunting tours in Morocco from 8 to 15 days. I would like to ask if anyone using the tour for fossil hunt? Are they good and if anyone has a favorite tour company to suggest? I am appreciate any information and help. Thanks.

I picked up this Wild boar (Sus scrofa) jaw section from Florida recently. While it not recognized in the Florida fossil record due to the boar being an introduced species in the past 600 years or so years. This piece has heavy patina, and is mineralized but is too young to be a fossil as it is thought to be a peice that is 400-500 years old. I have Mastodon and cave bear material that are older and far less mineralized. Other than using the rough date of 11k years ago, how else do I explain why a younger less mineralized peice is not a fossil while an older less mineralized peice is a fossil? Thoughts?

This time let's have a look in Oligocene, one of my favorite. The Oligocene in this topic includes 2 different localities with slighlty different periods of time : Stampian (-33.9 - 28.1) and Chattian (-28.1 -23). Back in time, Europe experienced a distension at the origin of a great tear of the continental crust: the Western European rift, which produces an alignment of ditches of collapse from the North Sea to the Gulf of Lion. Lakes, with locally marine connections, occupy these ditches. The best example is the series of great Oligocene lakes of Provence. The climate is cooler and drier than in the previous era. As a result, the environment is modified: extinctions and replacements occur within wildlife. Following the refreshment, the flora has a sub-temperate character. It is thus dominated by the elements of the North European flora associated with warmer species, witnesses of earlier flora that survived the cooling. Provence at this time is covered with a series of lakes (depressions of Aix, Apt and Manosque). At the bottom of these silts were deposited on large thickness, forming limestone in thin sheets, fossilizing fauna and flora. We can discover fish, leaves, insects, and exceptionally were found crocodile, birds, bats, frogs ... The sea was close and sometimes corresponded with the lakes. The climate was tropical, from where an abundant flora composed of palms, pine trees … Finally, the Pyreno-Corsican-Sardinian massif gave way and left the sea rush into Provence, covering the lands that were previously emerged. The lakes give way to a warm and shallow sea, which I invite you to discover on the previous topic: Presentation of a Miocene outcrop form Souther France The rock is made of very thin layers which have to be opened carefully to discover the fossils. Does anyone know of any rock shops in the Las Vegas area that would have fossils for sale? More of the Ma and Pa roadside stands rather than the commercial shops , real fossils still covered in dirt.

I was looking in a creek bed for arrow heads and this popped up. I thought it was strange. The core is stone also.

Hello guys! I saw these shark teeth from Ryazan, Russia. The first 6 ( you can put numbers to the teeth according to the order of the pictures ) are identified as Archeolamna. The second 4 are identified as Cretalamna. I am very sure some are not IDed correctly, some swapped btw Cretalamna and Archeolamna and some are completely different species. I really appreciate the help, and if someone could tell me the complete specie name from that location, that would be awesome. Kind regards. Ps : tell me if you need extra pics of the back of the teeth if needed.

Hi Forum Got a Chance to buy an Egg for a quite a reasonable Price. The Seller told me he bought the egg years ago from China and bought a whole nest with 12 eggs then. Would be great to know more about it, if its possible withe the attached Images. Does anybody has experience with prepping an egg like this? Would you recommend this for a beginner? Thanks

I found these last week in Texas about 60 miles south east of Amarillo. 2 are nearly identical in size. Do you all think these are fossilized eggs? Appreciate the help!
