Hello, I think I found my first serious fossil!! Up until now, I always found invertebrate and plant fossils like echinoids and giant oysters, but recently after fossil hunting last week at my favorite spot, the San Sebastián Limestone, I stumbled upon something absolutely incredible. I was rushing to get home cause it was getting dark and the river was getting pretty cold, but I tripped over this huge stone. I saw the shadow of something stuck and quickly put it in my backpack, swam and crossed the river and bought it home thinking it was some kind of fossilized wood. It is very, very heavy. However, after checking it closely, it looks like it's actually a bone! Those are extremely rare in the island and I've never seen one, so I'm hoping some bone experts can help me properly identify this fossil.

Hello all! This is my first post, so forgive me. I found this near a small stream in a hiking spot called LimeKiln in Porter Ranch, California, Los Angeles County. I know nothing about the area, and while I’ve heard that LimeKiln used to be a lime quarry I don’t even know what lime looks like so I’d rather not guess as to what sorts of rocks are nearby. Anyway, is this an actual fossil? It feels heavy like a rock, not light like bone. If so, any ideas as to what it might be? Please forgive my hand holding video with no measurements. I will dig up a ruler tomorrow, but for tonight I’m just so excited about this I’m posting anyway, just in case what I have found is super obvious. Forgive me, I’ll do better next time! I really appreciate you looking at this thing I’ve found. It’s been on my list to find a fossil for a very long time. Hopefully this is it! IMG_1382.MOV

In earlier times I loved the smaller fossils. I moved some times, so it´s better to pack not too much... My collection of fossil fishes was small, maximum size 50 cm (and a little more), but never above 1 Meter I love to show our biggest fish here, Cladocyclus with approx. 135 cm big one... Show your biggest fish (when you are not too shocked, sorry for this start...), love to see other giants

Is it real? Spinosaurus hand claw & finger bone
connorghabra posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Do you guys think this is real or fake. I'm assuming fake, but thought I would post to see if you would be willing to give any insight. Apparently it was found in the Kem Kem Basin, Morocco, Africa. -
Are pathological shark teeth random occurrences, genetic mutations, or the result of feeding damage? I understand that pathological extant shark teeth show deformities similar to pathological fossil shark teeth. I presume that most of what we know about the subject is based upon modern observations. Is a pathological tooth replaced by a normal one in the tooth replenishment process or is that file always going to produce a deformed tooth? Thoughts, ideas?

Hello, I have found a Fossil that I cannot ID. The fossil looks like an eyeball in its socket. There are fine strands around the ball, looking like they are holding the ball in place. Can anyone help me ID this? Thanks Dave

I spent some time today examining this little Triarthrus specimen when I noticed what may be a preserved eye. This one was found in between pieces of shale, so the first 2 pictures are from one side while the last 2 are the other. I've seen other Triarthrus fossils that have eyes in the same place so I do think it may be one. Are trilobite eyes a common part of fossilization?

Decided I would make a thread with my drawings, recently I decided to draw trilobites that are not necessarily proportional and I didn’t spend too much time on these just wanted them to be life size and recognizable, so far I have 19, I took ideas from @Kane trilobite drawings and @rew trilobite collection. I will add to this thread as I draw more fossils not only trilobites. You may not be able to read the labels partly from camera quality and mostly from my handwriting.

I have several thousand shark teeth of every shape and size that I found 25+ years ago that are in storage. If I can ever find them, I’d like to try and embed them in resin and make some kind of desk or coffee table piece, maybe even a river style coffee table with them embedded in the clear resin. For those that have tried it or may have suggestions, what is the best method of sealing the pores in fossils and pyrite to keep them from squeezing out air bubbles during the pressurizing process? I didn’t know if there was a special sealant that folks use. Thanks

This was a trip I made definitely a few years ago to maryland. I did find this megalodon tooth that was almost in perfect shape, but there is a cracked off piece on the top corner of it. I found a few other shark teeth too but thats probably my best find in the collection.

Which higher quality fossils will become harder to obtain in the future? Both are excellent quality fossils, but I'm thinking of buying the one that will be harder to obtain in the future. Could you tell me anyone? I would appreciate it if you could tell me. I appreciate everyone's comments! thank you very much! Oviraptor egg Carcharodontosaurus tooth -
Hello! I found these a few days ago while taking a brisk stroll along a very seldom utilized section of the niagara river in western new york. the larger bone was just barely poking out of the silt/mud in the water. the water level was quite a bit lower than it has been in awhile. the smaller piece was about 20 feet away mixed with some small rocks at the water's edge. in that section of the river there is a good bit of silt/mud which sits on top of a fairly thick layer of clay. both pieces feel pretty much like rock, heavy for their size and neither exhibits a burned hair smell when flamed. i forgot to take a photo with the ruler but the smaller piece is about 4.5 inches long and maybe an inch wide. it has a curvature on one side. ive been having fun researching the past few days but i think ive done all i can on my own as i dont really have any expertise in anatomy. i just like hiking around and trying to find unusual stuff. my best guess is that the larger piece is part of a scapula and the smaller piece resembles some photos of tusk portions ive come across but i really dont know. if anyone knows what animal these could potentially belong to i sure would appreciate any info. holiday cheers to all!

Found this about 10’-12’ deep while digging a soil sample in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. I’m located on the peninsula, 575 feet above sea level. Object weighs 2.5 lbs and is pretty solid. Noticed a very small shell imprint. Ignore dark colors, it was damp from cleaning. any ideas on what it might be?
