Hello all- im new here but have been following this group for a while now. Hoping you can help me figure out what this HEAVY rock/ fossil is? I found it on my property up here in Northern California. Hello everyone! This will be my first, of several posts requesting identification help with various items from a single spot I stumbled upon. To keep it brief, I live on the far west/nw edge of San Antonio Texas. I’ve lived in this house nearly my whole life—almost 32 years, and inherited it in 2020. Last summer I decided to begin working on a small natural pool and disappearing waterfall for my 2 dogs. I picked a spot in the backyard and to my surprise I didn’t end up hitting any rocks until nearly 3 ft deep (a first for me— I’ve dug in many places around my lot and this area and have always hit virtually solid limestone before even 1 foot deep). About that same time I found several chunks of metal— maybe iron- ore nuggets, possibly meteorite bits or just deposits, im not sure, but finding these made me slow down digging and paying closer attention. As I was clearing rocks out I noticed that they just looked strange and we’re arranged oddly enough that I stopped digging with the pick axe altogether and started carefully clearing the dirt and widening the hole so I could figure out what I was seeing. I collected different pieces and cleaned them up with vinegar—some I cleaned up further and set aside. This particular piece cleaned up pretty well but I’m stumped about what it is, if anything at all besides a very solid, strange and pointed rock. I’ll confess that since last summer I’ve managed to expose a pretty wide area of this rock bed and I have a theory…a fairly strong suspicion that it’s the very weathered, maybe very old, badly broken fossilized remains of a large turtle or tortoise…based on the intact pieces I’ve collected and cleaned. I’ll include early and current pics of the bed and will post several of the key pieces for identification help a little later. For now, I’m just asking for help with this one piece— any and all input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and have a beautiful day!

Hi, I just went to Ohmaden quarry, Germany and found bunch of ammonite fossils and this. I have no idea what it is. Does anyone can tell? Thank you:)

I found these in the river behind my house. The river dried up more then it had in a least 22 years. The bottom was quite exposed. Does anyone know what these are? I do know, they are not rocks. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi all, found this in Florida, but in a pile of delivered gravel for our flower beds. No idea of actual origin. Thank you all. dave -
Going through a family member's old stuff and found this along with a few other dinosaur bones. They grew up in San Juan county Utah, so this was likely uncovered from that region, but I can't say with absolute certainty. I don't know if this is a fossil or just a geode. I myself have almost no experience in this area. Any help appreciated. Thank you!

I am a rock lover I will admit I don't know a lot about identifying fossils but I think that's what this is. Can anyone tell me what it is? I put it on the big burner of the stove for size reference.

Cracked this open and found an interesting pattern. Is this evidence of a fossil within this limestone? If so what could it be? See the thin strands alongside the main “stem”. Why is the outer layer this color? Some pictures have had the contrast and saturation adjusted to aid with identification I’ve only been searching for and studying fossils and rocks for not even a year. Teach me all the things! The fossils that I’m familiar with in this area aren’t matching up. found near Beaman Park - north west Davidson County, Tennessee. This area has features of the western highland rim not so much of the central Basin (is what Google says) thanks! Sarah (This is my first post! I’ve been wanting to post many things for a long while but haven’t gotten up the nerve so be nice:)

Is this a real fossilized dinosaur egg?
iglyphics posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I just bought this dinosaur egg fossil and would like opinions on its authenticity. It is spheroid, 3 inches in diameter, porous and pitted texture. Cracks present as one would expect in a fractured shell. Thanks for any insights.- 5 replies

Found this today near where I found the fossilized horse tooth in the cliffs. What do you think it is?

I bought this about 20 years ago when I purchased my dinosaur egg. For the life of me I have no clue what it is. It could be a rock for all I know. Any input is greatly welcomed:)

While combing my local beach in Virginia Beach, I came across this piece. The inside coloring and texture has me questioning tooth, much like some of the broken pieces of GWs that I’ve found in the same area. Shaped like an oval cylinder, about 3 inches long. Tusk? Rock?

Hi there, I found these fossils in Newcastle NSW Australia. All of these fossils were found very close together in broken up shale. I’m thinking Glossopteris but I’m really not sure. Id love some help, thanks

Hello guys! Me and my friend found these while hanging out. The location is Bulgaria, Europe, a village in the eastern part. They were among the rocks on the road. They look a bit irony. We have a few of them and all are different sizes. I am attaching photos of two of them. Do you know what these might be?
