  1. Hunting today, found a couple things I wanted IDs on! A claw core (Or at least I think it’s one), a shark tooth, and an ear bone. 1) Claw core? 2) Shark tooth - Giant Thresher? 3) Ear bone: @Harry Pristis @Shellseeker Appreciate any help in advance!

  4. Hello! I'm new to the forum- this is my first post. Apologies if I make any mistakes here! My mother has had this dinosaur egg(?) in her possession ever since she was a child- it was gifted to her by her father after he had found it at the side of the road while driving. I'm not sure where specifically it's from or even if it's biological in nature at all. ....Now, I've wanted to finally conclude if this is truly a dinosaur egg (or egg of any other organism) or an interesting geologic formation. Dinosaur or not, it's a beloved object and I'd like to find out it's true identity! The whole thing is approximately 7cm long, 5.5-6cm wide, and the yolk(?) is approximately 4cm in diameter.

    Venice Beach, Florida - Tilly bone?

    I believe this is a small tilly bone, but could be wrong - could just be a normal bone, so any ID/help is appreciated!
  6. Finally back from the creek and had some more ID’s I’d like to ask about! Mostly teeth, and one bone. 1+2) Thresher shark teeth? Never seen this type of shark tooth before. 3) Thinking this is Carcharhinus sp. and is a just posterior tooth, but I’m not sure. It is serrated. 4) Dolphin tooth - 99% sure on this one but wanted to confirm 5) Rhino tooth fragment? Note the vertical HS bands. 6) Toe/finger bone? 1+2) Thresher Shark? 3) Not sure - Carcharhinus sp? Has serrations though the pic doesn’t show em too well 4) Dolphin tooth? 5) Rhino tooth? @Shellseeker there’s vertical HSBs 6) Toe bone?

Home and settled, have 3 more teeth I’d like ID’s on before I do a trip report. 1) Very obviously a herbivore tooth - half of one anyway. 2) Tooth of some kind with enamel with vertical Hunter-Schreger bands 3) Looks like a Dugong tooth fragment kinda, but could also be a rock 1) Herbivore tooth: 2) Enamel banded tooth: Top: Root: View of enamel: 3) Dugong?

    Possible hadrosaur jaw segment?

    Found in horseshoe canyon AB is 1.5 inches long. Any idea if this is hadrosaur and then what type of hadrosaur?

    Any idea what hadrosaur this is from?

    Identified by a palaeontologist as a hadrosaur vertebra and I would like to get some clarification. It’s 3-4 inches long and 2-2.5 inches wide. Found in Horseshoe Canyon Alberta.

    Peace River teeth ID’s needed

    So did some 4th of July hunting today - found a bunch of stuff and I’ll do the trip report tomorrow. But I need ID’s on 2 teeth: 1) The first is a rooted tooth. I was thinking Dolphin or Whale? Really have no clue. 2) I’m guessing it’s horse, but I wanted to confirm. 1) Rooted tooth: 2) Horse?

    Two more Peace River ID’s needed

    So 2 more things I wanted to ask for IDs on. First is what I originally thought was Dugong bone - but now that it’s dried I can see concentric rings in it - which makes me think tusk? But no Schreger lines. The other is a piece of bone with an odd shape. 1) Possible tusk? 2) Bone @Shellseeker @Harry Pristis Either of you guys know? Thanks in advance!

    Peace River ID help

    So 3… specimens from Peace River that I’ve posted before but never got any ID’s on that I figured I’d repost and ask again - consolidated to one post. Not sure what any of the 3 are. 1) This feels like it could be a tooth? 2) Not a single idea what it could be. 3) Not sure if it’s a mineral like chert or mammoth enamel or something else. As always, any help is appreciated!
  15. I had found this tooth a while ago and was just now realizing it wasn’t in fact a shark tooth like I had originally thought - or at least I believe it isn’t, so any ID is appreciated! There’s very slightly worn away serrations on the blade near the root, the camera didn’t pick ‘em up. Also found this piece of bone (I think it’s bone, honestly could be rock) that looked pretty interestingly shaped, so I wanted to get an ID (or be told it’s rock if that’s the case!) 1) Tooth: 2) Bone?
  16. Back on the peace today, found a bunch of mammoth tooth frags and whatever this other thing is, and I’m not sure if the frag IS a frag. 1) Mammoth frag? 2) Whatever this is, maybe it’s chert, maybe it’s a fossil?
  17. So went to peace River today, and as always, I come back with ID’s being needed! So a few different things today. 1. Possible piece of tusk? It’s got cross-hatched lines on it which makes me think of Schreger lines. 2. Another thing I thought may be tusk, for the same reason. 3. I’m almost certain this is a mammoth tooth fragment, but I wanted confirmation! 4. Are these hammerhead shark teeth, or lemon?     Bone Valley Crocodilian Gastrolith?

    So did some fossil hunting yesterday and found what I was told was a Crocodilian Gastrolith. Which while technically just a rock, is still a really cool find. So I wanted to see if anyone else could confirm the ID or not!
  19. Hi all! Went on another expedition to flag ponds in Calvert MD the other day, had probably one of my best hunts so far in the formation. in total I found 112 teeth, 51 shark, 59 ray, 2 bony fish. I yelled in excitement when I found this one in the shell bed, blending into the grays. There's only two things this tooth could belong to and one of them is a shark I have been hunting for years. I am leaning towards Meg in my ID, as the break line seems to go across the middle where the chevron would be, in addition to the profile of the tooth is girthier than the hastalis I have found. Just to make sure i am not falling for seeing what I want to see. I have shown it here. fragment measures about 1 inch on the diagonal. here is a Burrfish puffer fossil i found in the sifter. for the bones I have a couple more that I am unsure of the ID. this one might be a turtle shell or a reptile bone of some sort? it cant be a cookie I dont think because the ridges are not as pronounced. this bone is odd, because it look slike it has a flat surface on both sides. which makes me wonder what part of the cetacean this migh tbelong to. also, there is a scratch on the sidethat might be a possible predation mark? this one is a carcharhinus tooth I found that seems to have a pathology. the tip is bent outward and up. possibly some other species? this looks to me to be the process of a fish vertebra. I am not sure what this is, but my gut tells me its a fish fossil, these bones both have a similar look/ profile which tells me its a common type of fragment. any ideas? bird bone? it doesnt look to be bog iron, and its shape rules out fish or mammal fish vertebra? anyway, your expertise as always is appreciated! let me know if theres any details about these I missed.

Some IDs needed for fossils from my hunt yesterday, so any help would be appreciated! 1) Not sure if this is a sea robin skull or something else. 2) I think this is a very worn tooth from something? 3) Preeeeeeeetty sure this is just a rock with some interesting layers - but I’ve found them on occasion and figured I may as well ask: 4) Very thick piece of what I originally thought was sea turtle shell, but due to how thick it is, I’m not sure anymore: Top: Side: Bottom: As always, any help is appreciated!

    Lake Huron Fossil Finds

  23. Going back through my old finds and upon checking some I realized I wasn’t sure if I had them right. First is a tooth - I had it in my “modern” section, AKA not a fossil - but it feels too heavy to be modern, so I figured I should ask. The second I had as a trace fossil, possibly a trace of a barnacle? But I’m really not sure, part of me wonders if its something else due to the patterns. 1) Tooth from something: 2) Trace Fossil?

    More Peace River IDs needed

    So finally finished sorting my fossils from Saturday, and had a few more pieces I can’t quite identify! 1) So first up is this piece of fossilized bone - it doesn’t burn, and it’s solid, so I do know it’s bone. Not a clue what it’s from: 2) Another bone piece presumably - but it’s got parallel consistent striations on it, which have left me quite unsure: 3) Next up is whatever this is, found a few of these but always forget to ask for an ID: 4) Second to last is this rock, not sure if it’s a phosphate nodule or coprolite. Still trying to figure out how I can tell what coprolite looks like: 5) And finally, while I know this is a burrfish mouth plate, it seems like it’s both sides of the fish’s mouth, as though it died with its mouth closed, wanted to know if that’s correct:

    Peace River Finds - ID’s needed

    Went hunting at Peace River today - found a bunch of stuff that I’m unsure of what they are. Still very much learning! So any ID’s on the following would be awesome: 1. Starting off with a bone - I’m mostly sure it’s a bone and not actually a fossil, but still no clue what from: 2. Also bone, but this one is definitely fossilized: 3. I’m assuming this a tooth, but I’m not sure if that’s right or what it’s from if so: 4 + 5. Two things I think are osteoderms/scutes, but also not sure what from: 6. Another tooth - not sure what from: 7. This is totally flat and just has very interesting patterns: 8. Another tooth possibly? 9. No clue if this is even a fossil, but it has some reddish colouring and striations that made me think bone: 10. This is flat on one side and has raised spikes on the other: 11. And finally - petrified wood? It’s definitely NOT modern wood, doesn’t burn at all: Thanks in advance!
