Has anyone heard anything about this year's Denver show? I haven't been in 5 years and am planning on attending this year.

Carboniferous wood with crystals for trade
Svetlana posted a topic in Member-to-Member Fossil Trades
Hello. I offer for trade fragments of petrified wood of the Carboniferous period with crystals of smoky quartz. Some samples are in the photographs (I did not upload all the samples I have, since there are quite a few of them - of different sizes and qualities, as well as the sizes of the crystals themselves. I think we can agree on what specifically interests you - I have no doubt that I will find the sample you need). The origin of this wood is Ukraine, its age is Carbon. I'm interested in marine reptiles and petrified wood. Thank you. Have a nice day-

I have several fossils that I have no idea what they might be (or even if they are actually fossils. Found in North Top Sail, NC #1 #2 #3 #4 I have others also but this is a start. Thank you for any help you can offer on identifying. Stacy I didn’t realize the other pictures had attached at the end. The Grey one I think is a barnacle and the other one looks a lot like asphalt in the middle but it is weirdly shaped and my son told me it was a vertebrae when he found it. thank you

Hello everyone. My son and i are both passionate about paleontology. During our research’s, we found these stones in red clay/sand with flint dating from Cenomanian (near Chartres, France). The stones were among the remains of bivalves and sponges. All the fossils found show strong erosion. Do you think it could be fossils or just stones? Thank you

Hello. I was lucky to find a few samples of the Carboniferous period; I found them interesting. The first photo is probably a Lepidostrobus. I ask you to confirm or refute this guess, as well as help with the determination of the rest of the samples. Thank you! Have a nice evening

Dear Forum Members, I am interested in hearing whether or not anyone here has played around with interesting or exotic displays for their fossils, or in hearing if anyone has created fossil art from the usual materials (e.g. paints, pencils, etc...) or from digital tools (e.g. neural style transfer, digital drawing platforms, etc...). I have used a machine learning technique called neural style transfer to take the following artwork, extract its style, and apply it to an image of a fossil. I have also tried to do some stuff with TSP (Traveling Salesperson Art), which a technique from linear optimization that allows one to make continuous line drawings. The inputs are an exogyra mollusk and a mosasaur tooth found by me. I am interested in seeing anyone's fossil art, so please post it here if you want! Would any metal fossils remain after 65 million years?
chrismackey posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Would any metal, specifically colbalt chrome fossilize? I'm asking because I have a book where a time portal opens to 65 million years ago, a character stabs another and the blade breaks off in the dead man's chest, and he gets buried under a mudflow. They find his fossilized remains in the present day, but would the broken blade still be stuck in his bones? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! :)- 17 replies

Extreme shortage in high end dinosaur material
paulyb135 posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
As a dinosaur tooth collector since 2018 I have been fortunate enough to obtain the majority of species I have been looking for in a relatively short space of time. That being said, in the last year I have noticed there has been a severe shortage of high quality dinosaur material available. Not just online but from private collectors too and those that have been available, the prices have shot up considerably compared to a couple of years ago for example. Perhaps Covid 19 is a cause of this. Im just curious as to why people may think this is and their theories behind it. Are people realising the worth of what they have and keeping hold of them? Is material simply drying up in the field? I’d love to hear your views and if anyone else has noticed this shortage in higher end dinosaur fossils, teeth in particular and also the drastic increase in prices for those that have become available (I appreciate prices and specific examples cannot be discussed). -
Has anyone visited Trammel Fossil Park in Ohio? If so, how what did you find and do you happen to have pictures? Any tips on where to look and when? Looking any info you may have. Thanks

Hi folks. My turn to ask for ID help. I’m more of a dinosaur tooth and fossil guy. My friend gifted me these fossil shark teeth. Can you take a look and help me with these? I own a couple Meg teeth and other Shark teeth, but these are giving me a little trouble, or I’d like verification. The first two (A) and (B) have a bourlette, but proportionately large serrations like a Great White. Except GW teeth don’t have bourlettes. I believe (C) and (D) May be Carcharocles hastalis. Are they? I believe (E) is a Mako. But what species? Lastly, is (F) Carcharocles angustidens? Sorry, no locality info on any. Thank you all for looking.

Hello everyone! Here’s the deal: I’m moving in the beginning of August which will entail a 900 mile drive (away from any cretaceous fossils ). Wondering how you all would pack your collections! Most of my collection (95%, lol) consists of teeth. Mostly cretaceous sharks and fish, one meg, a spino, and two mosasaur. I have a few inverts as well, which I’m predicting will be the most fragile. No large pieces or bone. I’m thinking individually wrap the fragile pieces, while the common teeth can all be put together? Let me know of any good ideas! Thank you!!
