Howdy all, I cleaned up a small hash plate and found this curious formation.... I believe this is the cephalon portion of a trilobite. If it is, this is the largest T-bizzle I have found! Let me know your thoughts. I'm finding some really packed hash plates from my recent dig. Sorry again for the poor picture. I really need to get a camera. Anyone know how to sneak one of those by the wife? ;p

Hello everyone! I recently went on my first fossil digging adventure here in Germany on my way back from the Alps. I only had a couple hours to poke around at the Eichstätt fossil quarry, but managed to find a few specimen during that time. It might not be much to some of you but considering it was my first attempt I was quite happy! I honestly could have spent days digging if time allowed.

I’ve been told that bees wax helps preserve and give ammonites a dull shine, anybody use this and whats the best way to apply?

Howdy All! Been a couple of months since I have posted anything. Work has kept me more than busy with travel. BUT, I wanted to share a quick day trip to my dig site yesterday in northern Cincinnati. I explored far left into the hillside I am excavating to see on the surface what Gastropods, Brachiopods and Bryzoa I could see and I was happily surprised that I found the mother-load! This area of my site was covered by a lot of growth and the runoff of water was less than in other areas I have been digging. I have attached a couple of pics and some real quick finds I cleaned up last night... sorry about the pic quality, I do not own a fancy camera. I love when I am lined up with conference calls and I can enjoy my hobby why listening to statistical analysis (actually mostly ignoring). I will try to save more pics in the comment sections. One specimen has me confused. I found a number of trilobite pieces throughout my day and collected around 25 hash plates with several in them. I have yet to clean them up. But pictured below (if it lets me) is what appears to be the bottom portion of a trilobite but I'm unsure.

Hi guys, I have this shell fragment with beautifull paterns but it is somewhat encrusted in Matrix. Looking at the matrix in detail I noticed some symmetry. Vertebra shape. I need some input on how to clean this. My concer is that if the calcium content hasn’t been fully substituted with silica I might damage the specimen using diluted vinegar. Any thoughts? Hello, I am ziggycardon! I am currently 23 years old and I'm from Belgium. Ever scince I was a small child, I've had a great interest in dinosaurs, animals and pretty much everything that has to do with nature and natural history! On a professional level I also work with animals as I am head of terrarium & aquarium in 3 different pet stores, but in my spare time I also keep and breed many reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates & exotix fish (although, I am tyring to take it a few steps back privately), and another thing I do in my spare time is to visit school with my collection of reptiles and other exotic animals (including some living fossils) as well as a whole load of other educational natural history material and ofcourse with fossils. One of my biggest interest in evolution and that's where my passion for the paleontology and zoology really meet! I bought my first fossil at the age of 12, but I've started collecting fossils as a hobby in late 2015 and I have build a small collection ever since. Unfortunatly I have never in my life found a fossil myself, something I really have to start doing as I find the entire process fascinating, but I am sure this forum might give me the push I need to get started! This week I started working on my first specialized fossil room which I hope to have finished in november this year. Hope to house most of my fossils there as well as some museum quality replica's and do some themed displays like a Kemkem display with a life sized spinosaurus skull replica and lot's of kemkem fossils, a ice age display, a eocene display, a marine reptile display and so on... Something I also wanted to mention, the reason I've found this forum is due to the fact that I had a 1,06 meter long lower jaw of a Prognathodon delivered today and the seller of the fossil who brought me the fossil told me about the forum after I told him about the upcoming fossil room and that I might get in contact here with people should I ever want a certain fossil that might be hard to uptain. Is there anything more to say about me? Well I've the most wonderfull girlfriend I can imagine who shares an interest in paleontology but not in the same passion as I do. I really love to visit musea and I love to travel. And besides fossils and animals my other hobbies & interests are centered about movies and television as I am in particular a huge fan of everything Middle Earth, Game of Thrones & Pirates of the Caribbean, collecting lot's of collectables from these franchises and met quite a lot of the actors who play in them! Hello, I've got 13 fossils of which I'm not sure what they are. All fossils are bought, which is why I can't say much about the geological layer and location they're from. I used a ruler with inches and cm sizing. I don't really have to know the 100% exact specimen (please feel free to give the details though if you have them), I would like to have a general idea of what I'm looking at. 1. Sold to me as bamboo, not sure if it is: 2. Sold as a waterlily, its a cross-section: 3. same story as up. I don't know what it actually is: 4. looks like a lizard foot, but it's probably coral. 5. Some kind of crazy stain?? 6. This is obviously a tooth of a carnivore, I would like to know if its mammalian or from a dinosaur. For this one, I would love to know the specifics but shoot away with your ideas on it. 7. Looks like bone, mammalian? Is it even bone? 8. Another piece of supposed to be bone. 9. Bone/wood? who knows? 10. looks like its bone, but really don't know.. 11. Looks like something from the sea... 12. Could be a tooth of a herbivore, could also be anything else. 13. The last of the bunch, its sold to me as coprolite but it doesn't really look like it. I would love to know your ideas on this collection. I am an amateur collector and I can identify some fossils/stones but for these, I really need your help. Thanks in advance.

If any of my ID guesses are wrong, feel free to point them out. Thanks for looking. Also, notice the serrations in the close ups of the GW fragment and how they differ from the close ups of a baby meg.

Hi to all. Today i found this tooth in the stream in the middle of the Forest. Last time when i was there,i found one huge oyster.So the question is:Is this a Bison tooth or not? The one on the right side i found on the road near the forest,it's also heavy as this one from the stream. If someone can help, it would be much appreciated

@Cris and I went to a brand new, unexplored site for us the other day, and it was definitely promising! We grabbed the canoe and went in a small, swampy creek. After lifting the canoe over what seemed like hundreds of log jams, we finally ended up finding some gravel! Sure enough, the gravel contained some fossils and we freaked out! Nothing insane was found this time, but we believe there is some amazing potential. We'll be heading back to this site for more exploration very soon!

Found this 2 weeks ago in Ramanessin Creek in Holmdel, NJ. It looks like a vertebrae from a larger fish like a shark or large ray, but I'm confused by the mushroom like shape of the one side, so I'm not sure. It measures about 1.2" across and about 0.9" high. I though that maybe it was the last vertebrae before the brain stem or something like that, and therefore the mushroom end may be the side nearest the brain and have a different shape. Any help and / or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

Hi, Here i am in sunny, mostly, Bournemouth UK. I hate to say it but I am doing the tourist thing this week. Please somebody save me and take me Barton. . Just round the Corner from the hotel there is a small museum packed with fossils and some minerals on the lower floor. Here is the url http://bnss.org.uk. Wonderful volunteer showed me the collections and besides what is in the cabinets there are drawers filled to the brim. As it is a charity and only open to the public on Tuesday's, more often over the holidays, donations are very welcome. I have photos to share but need to get home first to download. Loads of Barton stuff. They have other galleries such as Archaeology, Egyptology, real mummy in a sarcophagus. Stuffed animals etc. Watch this space.

I am new to the forum from Florida. I have done some fossil hunting over the years. I have been getting more active doing as of lately. Also have done quite a bit of cave exploration domestically and abroad. I currently have active projects in Mexico, Colombia, and here in the US exploring and surveying virgin cave. But anyways look forward to doing more fossil hunting and learning more about it.

Hello Everyone, My name is Alan, Recently I purchased several acres in northern Arizona and on my land I have been finding several interesting rocks, and fossils. I have always been interested in paleontology and geology but I have no formal education on it.
