Hello all! It's been a while since I last posted but it's been a while since I went on a good fossil hunt. These four fossils are the ones I found in the NSR over the weekend that I'm not sure of. I can tell that they are all bone and one is for sure a vert of some type. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Really enjoyed the fossil expo yesterday In Edison, NJ. Just wanted to share some of my purchases with all of you. 90% of my purchases came from an expert or directly from a paleontologist that found the fossils. The only downside is that those who deal the Moroccan stuff.. you have to be careful. I came across some phony specimens. Like mosasaur Teeth plastered onto a different species jaw, or spinosaurus claws that are mostly fabricated. In any case if you are interested in buying Moroccan fossils, I suggest talking to somebody who is an expert there, like a paleontologist, and show them a picture of the specimen or bring it directly to them to tell you if the specimen is okay or not. That’s exactly what I did, and I felt much more comfortable because I only bought material that was fool proof. At least I hope haha. Anyway they have so many options, especially for those who love minerals. Looking forward to going back. Here are some pics This first pic is of an Allosaurus bone.

Des Plaines Valley Geological Society's 50th Annual Show

After visiting the MAPS Show yesterday in Iowa City, I decided to stop by a small show that was held in a Western Suburb of Chicago. It was the 50th Annual Des Plaines Valley Geological Society Show and it was the first time that I have attended. It is a very small show that is really geared towards rocks, minerals and jewelry, but there was one vendor that I saw there that had fossils. She had various items for sale, but the prices were quite high for many of the items ( i.e. 1" portion of a Spinosaurus tooth for $150.00), but being a local show, I do like to purchase 1 or 2 items to help the vendors, so I bought a couple fluorescent minerals for my 4 year old grandson and a small bird bone in Tar Matrix (Rancho La Brea, CA), though I think it may have come from Maricopa Brea, CA. Like other shows, they had a couple of displays , door prizes and silent auctions. If you live in the Chicagoland Area ans you have nothing to do tomorrow head out to Des Plaines and check it out- the information is on The Fossil Forums Calendar. So Thursday afternoon i drove 3 1/2 to the Clarion Hotel in Iowa City, Iowa so I could be up bright and early for the start of the show. Like Tucson and other show locations, there is a Hotel Show that takes place inside the Clarion on Thursday thru Saturday nights. I have to admit that I had more fun at the Hotel Show versus the couple hours that I spent at the actual show today. I would guess that there were maybe 30 rooms that were open and that contained mostly fossils, but some minerals. Not all of the vendors at the hotel participate in the actual show. With that said, I was really disappointed in the amount of vendors that showed up today for the show, but I did hear that there was some show taking place on the East Coast, and many of the vendors went there. Over the weekend on Saturday, The boys in our family went out to Grand River Waterloo for fossil hunting. Although I do not have pictures of us hunting the fossils. Here are some fossils we found. Google Drive Link to my fossils I feel that the names can explain a lot about the rocks (Appreciate any help naming them). I kept the green and black ones since they looked cool (Shiny). For fossil hunting, we looked for the layered rock and crossed our fingers hoping for the best (Anywhere I can find out more strategies and techniques). That was how my dad found the fan fossil. The funny thing about the Sun fossil (gonna keep calling it the "Sun Fossil" until I find out the correct naming) was that I found it right next to the place I laid down my water bottle. Was it planted there or is that normal?? I was going to upload my fossils to the site but I could only put up one and it was too much work. Can someone explain to me how to add more than one picture in your post Thanks Nathan (man these emojis are nice) (I should be studying) (I did my homework though @Monica)

Long time reader, first time poster. Just hit Peace River for the first time, and I found a bunch of awesome stuff. Would love it if anyone could weigh in on IDs. (Let me know if I'm not posting this correctly) All fossils were found near Wauchula, FL. My thoughts for each specimen: #1 Equus upper cheek tooth #2 Alligator / crocodile teeth #3 Vertebra of some sort. Very curious on this one. #4 Mammal tooth. Again, very curious. #5 Softshell turtle fragments #6 Hemipristis tooth. Largest tooth of the day (not very big, but it was my first time out there and I'm happy) #7 Dugong ribs #8 Burrfish tooth plate #9 Bone. Not sure if this will be IDable #10 ?? Piece of tooth or maybe something manmade #11 Mammoth enamel? #12 Mammoth enamel? #13 Mammoth enamel pieces? Thanks! -Brian

Here are three little objects from the Pliocene/Miocene/Pleistocene of South Carolina. Most of the fossils I found here were from the Pliocene Goose Creek Limestone, but I also have some horse teeth that are most likely Pleistocene. This is a beach site. The cube is 1cm^3

I am planning a trip with my 12-year-old grandson (and future paleontologist) to a dinosaur dig this summer, and would like to get some first hand advice on choosing a good outfit. We can go about anywhere in the U.S., several days to a week, but since we'll likely be flying we can't easily bring along much gear of our own. I've researched dozens of dig sites. Some sites were outdated, some sketchy on details, some had age limits or are already filled. PaleoAdventures and Hell Creek Fossils, Dinosaurs of the Western Slopes are possibilities, but I would welcome any comments on organizations to avoid, or ones you have had a good experience with.

Hello, I am quite curious as to what your prized possessions are. You can post about 2 images. I will start with mine. My personal favorite is my Tethysaurus vertebrae, it was either this or my Keichousaurus but I felt like this was more "special" than my Keichousaurus.

I ran into these the other day while going through a box of my fossil stuff. These are both Orbitoplax weaveri from the state of Oregon but from two different sites. The one on the left is in much softer rock and about 90 miles from the other unprepped one from another site where the same crab is found but in much tuffer rock!!! Just nasty rock and very very hard to prep. I can see now that the good one needs more work. I wasn't very good at prepping in those days. Ive got about 20 more concretions of this crab to prep, but that will take some time. Not that I need any more prep projects!!! And also one of my best ever of this crab. This one used to be my avitar. A really good specimen for this species!!! RB

Hi, I am a Florida history teacher and amateur fossil hunter. I would like to share my finds with my students, but want to make sure I am giving them the correct info. I recently went on my first fossil hunt on the Peace River outside of Arcadia. I wanted to know if you could help me identify some of the fossils I posted below. My thoughts were... #1 Shell Imprint or Mammoth Tooth Fragment. #2 Gator or Croc teeth. #3 Horse Tooth Fragment. #4 Horse Tooth Fragment. #5 Burrfish Mouth Plate Fragment. #6 Turtle Scute Pieces. #7 Glyptodont. Could someone also tell me if it is possible to distinguish between a fragment of a Mammoth tusk and Dugong rib? Thanks for your help!

Today I stopped by the 2018 E.S.C.O.N.I. (Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois) Show. This is a very small show that has various vendors selling fossils, rocks and minerals, but it is always fun to attend. Besides being free, it is really a great place to promote fossils and minerals for kids. The have a whole section where kids can search for fossils and also get many other things for free. The Silent Auctions are a big draw and you can get some really cool things super cheap. In addition, they run a Live Auction and like the Silent ones, you can pick up various fossils, minerals a equipment a good prices. The fossils that were offered for sale were not really anything to write home about, but they were selling. There was also a very nice display of fossils from Bundenbach, Germany that were supplied by the Lizardo Museum. Below are some pics of the event and the Bundenbach display.

Hello Everyone! I am new to this forum and look forward to talking to everyone. I am from South Georgia and have been interested in Relic/Artifact/Fossil hunting all my life. I have Indian artifacts I have found from the 70's and one Megalodon tooth we found in the river back then. I am really interested in hunting for Megalodon teeth and would love to get some insight into where the best places are in Georgia to locate these and other things. Thanks for any help and looking forward to talking to ya'll!

Years ago I use to hunt what was called the Scotai Bluffs when I live in Northern California, Eureka. I found hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of clams in those days. 99.9% were not very good. The preservation being not so good, but once in a rare while, and knowing where to look, I did find some very nicely preserved clams, but even these 'good' ones were far and few between! These are known as Clinocardium meekianum. This is one of the very best groupings ive ever found. 3 of these stuck onto a rock. Yes, these are polished but I do have one or two of these really nicely preserved ones that I left untouched. Just found this in yet another one of my boxes in January. Its now sittin in my collection. Woooooop!!! Wooooop!!! They are just the common clam, but these are truly the best Ive ever found. RB

Hello, Here is my entire fossils collection, it is very small but has some cool stuff. I started collecting fossils since I was about 9 years old but I really went in to fossils, interest and collection-wise 4 years ago. It is mainly my friend who motivated me and made me interested in these remains of our past, so a big thanks to him. My collection is growing every day,slowly but surely and I am always searching for the best deals. Please ask all sorts of questions and ask for information,This is the goal of my post. Ask me for more picture too! I will have the pleasure of answering and sharing all I know. Australian Marine Invertebrate Fossils to Trade

Hello Everyone. I have recently returned from some fossil collecting trips and have many Australian invertebrate fossils to trade. I have a large collection of sea urchins, gastropod, bryozoa and other marine invertebrates to trade. The Victorian fossils I have to trade are Miocene to Pliocene and the New South Wales fossils are Devonian and Permian. I would like in return vertebrate fossils. ( Sharks teeth, fish and shark vertebra, mammal bone, etc.) I am also happy to trade overseas. Thanks, Daniel -
First Trip Out to North Sulphur River Since the Big Rains

I had wanted to get out to the NSR earlier, after the big rains of a few weeks ago, but yesterday was my first chance. The water in the area I frequent was lower than expected, so the access was pretty good. Many previous footprints but I do not let that bother me, so many square feet of area, you can always find something. Finds were mostly small vertebrae and bone pieces, one possibly a portion of turtle plastron, similar to one I posted previously. Did have some luck with artifacts, found a couple within a foot of each other. Hard to make out in the photo, look for the quarters! Overall a good trip, you always want to find more.

Our trips all start out as a kayak fishing adventure. We usually end up pulling ashore for a little while and exploring. On this trip we found a lot of these fossil clams. Very cool. I dont know much about them just thought i would share.

Ive always been very fond of the fossil fishy's. I also learned to aquire the little tiny fossil fishy's too. I have the little tiny phareodus and the little tiny priscacara, but today whilst going through yet more boxes of stuff, I ran into these little tiny beauties. The first, a 5/8 inch Mioplosis. 2nd, another Mioplosis measuring 3/4 inch and a very nicely preserved little 1 1/4 inch Knightia. Really made my day running into these!!! Just freakin love these!!! Life is really good!!! RB
