Hi!! I'm Kimi, just a girl who loves ALL things Nature. I'm especially drawn to rocks/ fossils, plants, and insects. Sometimes I think the rocks and fossils are even drawn to me! With gratitude and reverence, I can also say that most plants are dear Allies to me, and always show me great patience as I continue to learn and grow.🌱✨️ That being said, Nature continuously offers us new opportunities to learn and grow, no matter where we are on our journey. Although my son will tell you this about me, "she always THINKS she found a fossil", he is never convinced. Me, being a novice to fossils, would love to better my understanding of these ancient treasures. So, without further ado, here are the first four finds that I am curious about......🥁 I know the one is definitely an ocean type fossil, just not sure what, but are the other three just cool rocks? Idk.... I reside in Arizona now (Michigan native), which is where these were found, AZ. I find rocks all over the state, but the main places would be locally (around the valley), Superstition area, Tucson area, Stafford, Christopher Creek, Sedona, and Flagstaff. There are so many more that I have questions about too, but maybe by posting a few at a time, I can begin to discern for myself which ones have potential. At least that is my aspiration. It's four inches x three and about a inch thick. Of course I think it's beautiful. I want to cut it long ways and expose the middle. I've always loved rocks and fossils. I'm just now becoming a hounder..lol Any help identifying this is greatly appreciated.

I've stumbled upon several hundreds of these fossils of I believe limestone formation. I really don't know a whole lot about fossils. Just what I've been reading online. Can I get a time period of what y'all think these may be from. Found in East Texas.

Found some weird textured rock and some shark teeth where I found big vertebrae which k believe is in woodbine formation. any ideas if this is skin etc? more than likely just fossilized cracked mud. but thought I would see. I found shark teeth in immediate area also. think someone posted on here the teeth I found pretty much with this patterned rock or fossil were saw tooth shark.

Hello my 9 year old son loves finding unique rocks, fossils, bones, etc. Can anyone tell me if these are any types of fossils? We’re located in Ruidoso, NM, our property has a lot of sandstone in some areas. Thanks

We had a big storm on the Pacific coast of Baja California Mexico and there are a lot of fossils and native American artifacts that were exposed due to beach erosion , and I was hoping I could have some help ID some of the items. Fossilized: Eggs, crab, shells,bones, wood? This one is the one I can't figure out at all, it very heavy

Found these rocks on the beach today, (one I found in the grass on the way there so not technically at the beach) what do you think? Anything interesting? found them in Ystad, south of Sweden.

Hi I'm New here & New To Fossil hunting. I'm not sure if I have found any fossils yet but I have 2 piece I would like to get some opinions on if they are indeed fossils. FYI I live in Macon Georgia. Both of these to me look like part of a reptile of some sorts head. I would really appreciate it anything anyone could tell me even if it's that it's just a plain rock as my husband says. Thank you so much for your time.

First fossil finds - The Warren, Folkestone - Need help ID’ing

Hi Everyone, Hoping to have some help finding out what these are (appreciate that some these will probably just be some random rock or stone). First picture is just the results from a couple of times going around the rocks or beach at the Warren, Folkestone which I don’t think is terrible for not really knowing what we are doing! The up close ones i’m not entirely sure what they are if anything at all! Also for reference thats a 2p coin don’t think that its obvious to see. any thing else can help you help me let me know and thank you in advance! Pic 2/3 are the same one just different sides. So I went to Lost River, WV (Needmore formation) during the fall. I just recently found time to go through the material some more, set up photos, edit, etc. Brachiopod impression? As with the other brachiopods, I’m hoping for genus-level identification. Brachiopod. Any ID’s on its genus? This… Thing. I’m guessing its a brachiopod. But I could also see it being the eye of a trilobite. This brachiopod flaked right off the matrix! Any ideas as to what genus it belongs to? Hmmmm this was clearer before I uploaded it. Any idea how to fix it? Not like its too important because it looks like its just some brachiopod hash. I’m guessing this is the glabella of a Phacops rana. Trilobite pygidium. Hoping for a species-level identification, but genus is probably the best I’m going to get.

I'm working with Dr David Campbell on possible fossils found associated with the Murphy Marble Fm in Western North Carolina. In 1973. Don Hathaway was logging cores at the Nantahala Limestone Quarry when he found what looked to be organic remains in a couple of cores cut into the Murphy Marble Fm. The age of the Murphy Marble is enigmatic, because of the lack of fossils in it, and it doesn't have the minerals that could be used to determine radiometric ages. The metamorphic grade of the marble and associated formations are garnet to staurolite grade. It's believed that these units were metamorposed during the middle or late Paleozoic. Unfortunately we couldn't handle the cores, and we were only allowed to photograph them. Since neither of us hasn't done research on brachipods before we are looking for opinions on the of these apparent organic remains. I almost forgot to mention that these fossils were apparently in an unit above the Murphy Marble Fm in the base of the overlying Mineral Bluff Group. I didn't take the photos so I don't have a scale for them. I finally did dig up a old picture from a talk given back in 2019 at a NCFC meeting in Raleigh and got a screenshot of part of the article to give you an idea of the scale on these pics.

These come from limestone quarries in central Iowa, near Springville, which appear as crushed gravel for roadbeds. My sister picks these up on her walks and wonders if these are the result of volcanism, or fossils, or what? My friend and fellow fieldtripper Kent Budge gives the following explanation, but suggested that we post here to get the insights of real experts. “These are chert nodules that are formed by microscopic plankton called radiolarians, which are little microorganisms that pull silica out of sea water to make their shells, less than 1/16”. They can pull a lot of silica out of sea water and settle onto the sea floor when they die. Once they have settled onto the sea floor, they will dissolve again, unless there is an event that covers them up. If they get buried so that they are preserved, the radiolarians will dissolve slowly, but the silica takes as a more stable form of silica, and precipitates, forming nodules. A lot of chert, if you slice it up and look at it under a microscope, you can see the little skeletons. Sometimes you can see diatoms which also have silica shells, or glassy sponges. The reason these are formed into these neat clam-like or finger-like shapes is because they form in bedding planes on layers in the rock. There is some kind of nucleus, that they start from, which might be an organic fossil. It might also be from narrow channels in a bed that the chert pipes up from. “ Your thoughts?

Both found in southwest missouri, the larger rock for some reason makes me think of a tooth so I wonder if it could be a piece of a tooth from some huge type of extinct animal but I don't know maybe it's just a rock? The smaller rock made me think ARTIFACT and man made but because the smaller indentions are smooth but the center circular spot is more rough like broken off from something.....actually after just looking it over again I'm pretty sure it's an artifact but I don't know what it was? Or what it was used for? Any help identifying these 2 objects would be greatly apprreciated
