Hey everyone, So this summer, like most summers, my family went to my grandpa's holiday house in southern France. Seeing that we had many days with nothing planned, I managed to convince them to go fossil hunting one day. At first, I wanted to go to Lacoste, a place known for its echinoids and gorgeous white scallops, but it turns out these quarries are no longer accessible. So instead we went to Carniol, which was a little further away. After only a few hours in the car we arrived at the village of Carniol. "Village" would still be considered being generous: there are no more than a dozen or so houses! And most seem abandoned too... There are two clay exposures on either side of the village, on the side of the road. They aren't hard to find, because the gray clay really stands out from the grass and trees. Both exposures are pretty much exactly the same. We started off at the first one.

Hi all, Here are some fossils I found at this summer in Carniol, and I would like to know what they are. If the species can be said that would be fantastic. So, the fossils are all from Carniol, France. They are from the "Gargasian", of the Aptian stage of the Cretaceous, some 120'000 years old. Looks like they're all pyrite-replaced. I believe they're some kind of cephalopods, but I'm really not sure. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance! Max

A few french trilos preped during the summer 2018
elcoincoin posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
During the summer i found time to empty a bit crates from the recent trilo hunts. Here come some of those recent prep. The samples come from 2 different sites which are only a few kilometers away one from the other. More or less orange ones from one place, black ones from the other. To start with, the emblematic Neseuretus tristani, most common trilos in our area. Those are second grade samples, but still, here they are : -

Hi everybody, today is a sunny day here and all the past week was sunny. I was in holidays on the boarders of the lake Salagou, which means in occitan (spoken in the south of France) salted taste. This lake is artificial and represent a good reserve of water for the cultures and for the fight against fires. It's soil is from the Permian and composed of red ruffes : clays very rich in oxides of iron.

elcoincoin posted a topic in Member Collections
Hi, all Here s a few pictures of my trilobites collection. All are self collected. They all were collectd south of rennes in britanny / France. The 2 most abundant species are Neseuretus Tristani and Ectillaenus Giganteus . There s also quite a few Eodalmanitina and Colpocoryphe rouaulti + a few other (mostly partial) species. I also added a last photo with a very fresh find (last tuesay) , very very cool association : Ectillaenus Giganteus and Eodalmantina sp (with complete caudal spine) -
