Hello I saw this tooth available from an account online. It’s quite small about 1 cm so my initial thought is that it’s a baby. I know baby’s T.Rex teeth are quite rare. So is it a baby T.Rex? Or is it it not even a T.Rex. Tooth is from Garfield county Montana.

Hell Creek Tooth Identification / Antemortem Enamel Spalling
Joseph Kapler posted a topic in Fossil ID
This partial crown was collected from the Hell Creek Formation, Garfield County, Montana. I acquired it for a teaching collection because I think it tells a story. The basal section shows almost an inch in diameter. Is this a Trex tooth? The tooth shows antemortem enamel spalling and wear as described by Schupert and Ungar, 2005. It feels as though that the tooth was broken as a result of probably bone crushing and was worn smooth with continued feeding, then shed some time later. I would appreciate your thoughts.- 8 replies

Hello! I got this tooth as a Christmas present, and to me it looks like a T.rex tooth, but the shape of the base made me less sure. I was hoping someone could help get a accurate id. The tooth is 10/16 of an inch long, and was found in Garfield county Montana. It has similar serrations on both sides, so I thought it was a tyrannosaur tooth. The shape, lack of pinching at the base, and thickness made me think it was T.rex, and the base looked to me like it could be a maxillary tooth since it was more rectangular than oval, but I wanted to see if anyone thought it looked more like a Nanotyrannus tooth. I can take any more pictures that would be helpful. Merry Christmas!
