This piece was advertised as an oyster Fossil I would really appreciate any input on whether or not this is a genuine fossil, and would anyone know from what region it might have come from. It is being sent from Texas. Thank you so much everyone for your help and expertise. The piece is 10 inches long. The entire piece feels like stone.

Just purchased a large (17lb) ammonite on an online auction site; my first time getting one and even after reading a lot of the comments here about them I still have no confidence in my own ability to assess how real this thing is and how much of it is carved if it is real. Hello everyone! first time poster here. I wanted to gather some opinions on whether this is a genuine or carved brittle starfish. I found it for sale online and wanted to purchase it for my collector wife (as a surprise). However, I heard/read there are many fake fossils and I don’t have enough confidence to make a call on its authenticity. What do you all think? thanks a lot for the help and advice. -Robert

Hello! i posted a different real or fake question earlier (brittle starfish) and was told It was fake and to keep looking for other gifts. It was suggested that it’s better to be safe than sorry and to post other items I’m interested in. Since i really appreciated the input last time, I’m here to ask again This time it’s a zoom in of an ammonite slab (holzmaden shale from Germany). It looks real to me but I just wanted to check. Thanks for all the help in gift searching!!

Hello all! ive recently purchased this piece (I know I should have consulted beforehand) but I only saw it the last minute before the auction ended. I would still love some insight on it and maybe an actual idea of its locality and species (or genera). The seller claims there is no restoration other than gluing different parts together. He also claims its Enlongatoolithidae either raptor or oviraptor or other therapoda. I would love to have better information on it and even its locality in China, since I assume that’s where it’s from. The fossil is 15 cm long. Unfortunately these are the best photos I could get for the timebeing until it arrives. Best wishes to all, Mohammed

Hello everyone. I saw this green river stingray bidding for much less than it is worth on an auction site. I will likely not bid on it, but in case I do I wanted to check it’s authenticity. Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to collecting and have gotten most of my fossils so far from one website that I think is reputable. I am trying out a website that I have purchased one fossil from already because I am interested in getting a dinosaur egg. It is a little pricey, so I just wanted to get some reassurance that it's the real deal before I pay for it. It says in the description that the original owner bought it 30 years ago and that its location of origin is unknown, which made me a little suspicious. I would greatly appreciate if I could get a little direction on this one before making a commitment.

I was given this Stromatolite as a gift from a family member who knows I have started to collect fossils. It came with no provenance and all the this person was told was that it is 3.5 billion years old. It looks genuine to me. Any comments? And any further info?

Brittle star fossil, genuine or carved?

Hello all. I saw this brittle star fossil up for sale, and wanted to check if it was genuine. It says it is from Morocco, and from the Ordovician period. I know a lot of sea stars and brittle stars coming out of Morocco are carved. I am not as educated on echinoderm fossils as much as others. I've included pictures. What do you all think? Thank you!

I was burned by buying two fake eggs and was hoping someone could recommend some reputable sources to buy a real dinosaur egg, i have collected a few dinosaur fossils over the last 5 years and really would like to add an egg to my collection. any help or advise would be very much appreciated.

Hi, I'm concerned that these four trilobites may be fakes. I bought them a long time ago by a guy, who claimed they were genuine. Some of them, especially the Psychopyge, almost looks too good to be real. But I wanna know what other people think. Thanks. -
Hi. Please forgive this ignorant amateur who has little knowledge of fossils. I would appreciate any feedback. I recently bought these from China and regrettably fear that they are not real. I placed one in water and sediment showed up. It also had a strange sweet smell, and from what I've read, they're not supposed to have any odour. Also, I can scrape it with a knife. Did I spend $50 on snarge?

Genuine Meg tooth?

Hi everyone! I found this megalodon tooth on an auction site, and considering the good quality of it and the very low price, I was hoping if someone more experienced could tell me if they see any red flags on it before I put an offer in. It looks nice to me, but I'm nowhere near qualified to give a sound judgement on something like this. The seller has it listed as being 4 inches high. Also, this and one other (much more expensive) Meg tooth appear to be the only things ever listed from the seller, so I'm very hesitant. Any advice on the tooth in question would be appreciated.

Hi everyone! I'm wanting to purchase my first Keichousaurus and found one online I like. I know that buying online from China is VERY risky. This seller has 100 percent positive feedback and communicates well so I am hoping it's real. Can anyone tell by these photos if this specimen appears authentic? I don't mind a little paint as long as the fossil is real.

Hi, I'm a beginner with fossils and recently purchased a Knightia fossil for 50 New Zealand dollars. When I got home I took a look and noticed it appeared painted. I've researched and apparently people often paint over to enhance it and make it look better. The question is, is it fake? I don't mind if it's painted over for looks but I will be disappointed if it's completely fake. Has to be painted, now I'm just wondering whether it's a genuine fossil or not

Hi all, I have been in the search for dinosaur eggs for awhile, and recently came across this interesting specimen. I would like to check if this looks genuine to you experts. It comes from the Rio Colorado Formation, and is from Auca Mahuevo, Patagonia of Argentina. It's measurements are 80mm X 60mm X 24mm, and weights 109 grammes. (Are Titanosaur/Saltasaurus eggs even that small?) Thoughts? PS: I have came across many Oviraptor, Hadrosaur and Segnosaur eggs. But full Titanosaur eggs are seemingly rare, is this an illegal fossil?
