Hello all! I'm new to the fossil game and I'm considering buying my first tooth but after doing some light research, I'm not sure if the tooth I am looking to buy is 100% from the same tooth... So, according to the seller, this is a 6.5" Spinosaurus tooth (from Kem Kem, Morocco) and they have said that some repair has been done... They've glued 2 areas of the tooth (they haven’t specifically stated which area is) and also mentioned that they've repaired some of the enamel. From the pictures, I guess that it is the very end of the tooth where the enamel has been repaired, to possibly repair some 'feeding wear' (as I have learned that it is called!?) But after doing a bit of research, I am worried that this is not 100% from the same tooth (since I've discovered that these teeth are not usually found this large and people occasionally glue multiple teeth together to create a huge tooth, and not be 100% honest about what they've done). I have these worries because of the area about halfway up the root where the colour becomes a little bit darker and there seems to even be a little ridge between the two halves... I'm not fussed if this tooth has been restored in some way (glued etc) but I basically am just after some of your thoughts and opinions on whether you think this is ALL from the same tooth and not some kind of fake frankentooth!? Thanks for any help/expertise you can give :)

Genuine Moroccan croc?
TyrannosaurusRex posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Howdy folks! I’m currently at Tucson, sifting through all the trinkets and different knick knacks. I found this skull that actually has me wondering if it’s real, unlike all the other croc skulls I’ve seen from Morocco on this trip. Upon touching it, it doesn’t have the plaster feel that most of the fake stuff does, but that doesn’t help rule anything out. Beautiful piece. Would be nice if it was real! Thank you! -
I won a keichousaurus at an online auction, is it real?

Short story: I won this on an online auction for a surprisingly low amount, which seems a bit too good to be true. Can you please let me know what you think of the specimen? Long story: My brother has wanted a keichousaurus but is too bloody stingy to buy one himself, so I compulsively bidded on one at an online auction. I won it for not a lot of money and may have a fake keich for my stingy brother. I guess he'd be proud of me for saving money on it (assuming it's real) .- 49 replies

Are these fish genuine?
Curiosity posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I would appreciate some help/advice as I know very little about this stuff (although this forum is proving very interesting and informative). I’m looking at giving the fossil fish pictured below to a friend as a birthday present. It has been listed as “Knightia alta from the Eocene age, Green River Limestone deposits Wyoming” and is mounted on a presentation slab. The item is from an apparently well known UK supplier and comes with a ‘certificate of authenticity’. Does this appear to be genuine and is it a decent sample? There is what seems to be a squarish tool mark at the top centre which I’m guessing is from when the stone was split, and is perhaps a bit of a shame on what otherwise (to the ignorant at least) is a fairly pleasing looking piece.- 12 replies
