Hey everyone, I had to make a trip up to Spokane, Washington, to help my grandparents move. They’re moving in with us. While I was helping pack boxes, I found this rock in their garage. Obviously has fossils in it. My grandfather was kind enough to give it to me. Any idea what this is? Is it even a fossil? I am attaching pictures.

Received this from a family member who had it laying around in their basement randomly. Can't seem to ID exactly what it is. He does not remember where it came from. Looking for any ideas or suggestions. Hoping to let him know. Appreciate any help! Hello!

Plans for your collection once you're......ummm...Dead !

The title was blunt to the point, & I was thinking. Let's hope this is far away, but still the fact is not going away. Ok we all know we have a passion for certain things here & have a collection going on. I'm curious what is others plan for their collection, once .........gone ? I know the simple thing is to will it to kin, though do they appreciate it ? And would they pawn it off as soon as they get ? I would assume if over time if need be you'd sell off to pay bills etc... Though what if your kin is not so much into your colle- 32 replies

Hello, I had a brilliant Idea and I wanted to share it with you guys. Here is the rundown: I have a good friend, (not a girlfriend,) in Utah. I want to make something for her for the holidays. I decided to try to make a necklace for her with a piece of Petrified Wood as a pendant. Attached is a picture of the piece I am using. I thought about using one of my Gastropods as the pendant, but I passed because I only have 2 Gastropod fossils. My smallest fossil fish are too big for a necklace. Well, that is my gift idea. I just wanted to share it. Wha

Another specimen given to me by my uncle over 30 years ago. Never really looked at these until recently. Any insight would be great! I have no idea. Thanks!' Dan

My uncle lived in Davenport, Iowa. He gave me a bunch of items like this 30 years ago when I was like 9 years old. I do not know where this was found, or if it is real. Thanks for any insight! Dan

Welcome to the sign up portion of this year's Secret Santa Gift Exchange 2018! Each year this event gets bigger and better with more players. OK, let's get down to it. The Secret Santa is a gift exchange in which you enter your name into a pool and get matched with another player to exchange gifts. We try to keep the gifts to around the $30 range so no one is sending an overly extravagant gift like a complete Sabortooth skull or too skimpy of a gift like a single broken clam shell. When making your selection for what to send, ask yourself " Would I want to receive this?"

Last year, for my very first holiday time at work, I received a bottle of wine and an ammonite from Madagascar necklace from my secret Santa. The necklace was one of the best gifts I have ever received, hands down! I have worn it almost everyday for a year and today, sadly, I discovered that the ammonite is broken. It is still held together by the metal (outline?), but it is loose. I want to save this, as it has a lot of sentimental value to me. I have some Paraloid B72 that is 5% paraloid/95% acetone. Would this be useful if I was able to seal the outside of it? Please tell me I can save it

I was wondering if anyone knew the identification of this fish, and if it is a genuine fossil?

My wife has been asking me what I would like for my upcoming 51st Birthday. I told her today that I would like the book "Trilobites of New York". She actually got this book for me as a birthday gift years ago. Like an idiot I put it up for auction when I started my Sharktooth faze. I guess at the time I was so engrossed with finding sharkteeth that I felt that i didn't need this truly wonderful book anymore. What a nimrod I was! Anyways she said she would get the book. Shortly after we were in Home Depot because they are the only place I know that sells a few Estwing products. So I picked out

Can I or another Forumer start a gift exchange?
Fossilian posted a topic in Member Fossil Trades Bulletin Board
Hey guys, I've been reading the past Secret Santa gift exchanges. I think it's quite interesting as you really don't know what you get. I was wondering if I or other forumers can have the blessings of Moderators and members to organize another random trading event for TFF! Thanks, please comment down below what you think. -
I was recently given an apple box full of fossils and minerals and I am starting to sort through it all. The man that gave me them traveled to many parts of the nation during his career so it is hard to say where they came from. A friend of mine suggested this could be a toe... any help is appreciated. Thanks
