Recently just got back from a trip on Tybee Island! During this trip I went out looking for shark teeth several times a day, and even did a tour with Sundial Charters! Overall in 6 days I found over 150 shark teeth and countless other fossils! I'll be posting them on here! Here's the coolest tooth I found actually on Tybee, I believe it's a Great Hammerhead.

I originally thought that 1 might be some piece of turtle, but it looks very strange to me up close. It is divided into many tiny cells unlike any bone I’ve seen before. It also seems to have a generally geometric shape, with the top end pointed outwards and the bottom end having two concave divots (terms “top” and “bottom” refer to the orientation in the numbered picture). Im quite sure 2 is either to a great white or megalodon. Normally I would say great white due to the general lack of a bourlette, but it is so small that I’m uncertain. I do not know if 3 is identifiable, but I was already posting the first two so figured I might as well include it. I have never found a bone with a long indent running along the middle of the outside of the bone. Just thought it was curious.

Hii, I've received a bunch of fossils from my friend in USA. These fossils were all bought in a store (New York area). I understand this makes it harder to identify, but maybe one of you intelligent human beings are still able to figure it out haha This was sold as a shark vertebrae and it measures 30x30x10 (mm). Does anyone know which kind of shark it belonged to and which time period / era it's from? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone! So my dream is to find a full shark tooth (I have found just one tooth so far, but not a full tooth) I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere in Melbourne (Australia) where I can be almost guaranteed to find a chunky shark tooth My daughters and I always go to Beaumaris and need somewhere new that isn’t too far away. Thank you for any help any of you can give me.

What is the geological age of the site where the megalodon was found in Indonesia?
Jerrychang posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Recently I bought some fossilized shark teeth from sukabumi, indonesia. There are plenty of bulls, dusky, lemons, big hemis and tigers and a lot of giant megalodon, but why are there so few great white shark teeth, and why hastalis almost never seen? Is it because hastalis are extinct at that time? And is it because the great white shark failed to compete with the megalodon in that place?- 4 replies

I bought this beauty last month and it finally arrived this morning. This should be the best preserved shark tooth among all the specimens I have ever touched. It’s 2.17 inches long and it’s also has a little bit pathology to both side of the edge.

I was out yesterday. Fantastic day in the sunshine. Did not need a wetsuit, even 3 mm. I was "prospecting" mostly walking upstream , checking likely places for gravel. Not many hoorah finds, but sometimes you only need one. I was finding a number of mammal bones, leaving most of them behind. Here is a bone that I think I have seen frequently, but just spent a couple of hours trying to get a good match searching TFF and the internet for variations of Horse, Proximal/distal, Radius, Tibia... and I am not sure yet.... I started the search thinking it was a leg bone of a small horse... with one flat side and a proximal end that looks something like a llama fibula..... So, let's see what others think.... Are those bite marks on the 1st photo?

The seller said it was found by a diver in Beaufort county, South Carolina. The bourlette, the root and the serration were damaged . The seller said it is a great white shark tooth, but I’m not so sure.

No modern phylogenetic analyses for extinct lamniformes?
Macrophyseter posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Taxonomic debate over extinct lamniformes remains a big thing, but I've noticed that it seems like there hasn't been any studies that use modern phylogenetic techniques (i.e. maximum parsimony) to resolve issues with extinct taxa (i.e. Carcharodon, Isurus, Macrorhizodus, Otodus). Is there a reason for this absence, or perhaps I simply have not come across one that already exists? I suppose it's possible that dental characteristics alone as character codes for a phylogenetic matrix may not be viable...-

So I found my first tooth on the beach two days ago... I went back to the general area today after rain and tide went out and found a almost 2” Great White tooth! Thinking this was dredged sand that was pushed around with the past nor’easter! Never find teeth here! Can anyone put an age on it, found other small teeth as well...

Please help me ID these shark teeth that were found on the west coast of Florida (near Venice) over the past weekend. My belief is that the top row could be Great White and/or Megalodon (very nice serration on the largest/first one), the second row is either Bull or Dusky, and the third row is Hemipristis (Snaggletooth). As for the fourth row... the jury is still out. I am most intrigued by the third/tiny one (from left to right). It looks different from anything else I have ever found. Very compact, lots of detail, and oddly shaped. Any ideas???

Fellow fossil hunters! I live in Jacksonville Beach, FL and have been collecting sharks teeth and shells on our local beaches for a decade. I have found some great teeth on the beach (mostly in the winter when the tourists have gone ) but have yet to find a megalodon tooth or even a fragment of one! My father had some beautiful meg teeth in his collection from when they would dredge for beach renourishment, St. Johns River projects, ect. So I know they are out there to find but I've never been lucky enough to come across one. Has anyone had any luck finding meg teeth in Jacksonville? If so, any tips on where to look would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm attaching a picture with a handful of my favorite finds over the years here in Jax Beach, enjoy! -Nikki

Hello to all from Floridafossils! I am a Geology and Environmental science student at the University of South Florida. Not to be cliche, but I have always had a strong interest in earth history and fossils. My parent's old yard still shows scars from where I, "dug up dinosaur bones" in my own little world. Today my collection consists of fossils from Mammoth, Mastodon, Megalodon, Giant ground sloth, whales, horses etc. I spend most of my free days, in the river and have seen some of the most beautiful places this state has to offer. Anyone who enjoys this passion as much as me, is a friend of mine. I look forward to connecting to everyone on this page. I am sure it will be a fun ride. Sincerely, Floridafossils
