  3. This is an ichthyosaur skull found at Xingyi, Guizhou of China (the type locality of Keichousaurus hui). The snout is very short and the eye socket is quite big compared to other species of ichthyosaurs found in the area. Could it be the skull of Shastasaurus liangae?     Guizhou Ediacaran?

    Hello, I see these pieces being sold as apparent precambrian Ediacarans from Guizhou, China. My question is, how does one determine if these are even fossils and biological in origin as opposed to just some random smudge or geological oddity? Is anything known about these sorts of specimens?     Xinpusaurus sp., a Thalattosaur

    Not an Ichthyosaur but an unprepped Thalattosaurus (Xinpusaurus sp.) from the Falang Formation (Triassic) of Guiyang, in Guizhou, PRC. Xinpusaurus can be easily distinguished from an ichthyosaur like Mixosaurus by the extreme overbite: The upper jaw is almost twice as long as the lower jaw. Will need a lot of prep work. Length ~ 60cm

    Are these two marine reptiles Xinpusaurus? It is from Guanling, Guizhou of the Triassic formation. By the way, there seems to be some vertebral bones inside the body of the bigger one, any idea what is that?

    Asialepidotus shingyiensis Su, 1959

    Taxonomy according to Xu and Ma, 2018 Junior synonym: Guizhoueugnathus analilepida Liu et al., 2003. Preoccupied name: Guizhouella analilepida Liu et al., 2013. Quote from Xu and Ma (2017, p. 36): “Based on three nearly complete fish specimens …, Liu et al. (2003) named Guizhouella analilepida and referred it to the family Eugnathidae (= Caturidae, Amiiformes); this genus was later renamed as Guizhoueugnathus, because it was preoccupied by a brachiopod genus (Liu, 2004). Jin (2009) first noticed that G. analilepida was a junior synonym of A. shingyiensis, and suggested that this taxon was closely related to parasemionotiforms.     Habroichthys orientalis (Su, 1959)

    Alternative combination: Peltopleurus orientalis Su, 1959. The fish was originally described by Su in 1959 as Peltopleurus orientalis but recombined by Tintori et al. in 2016 as Habroichthys orientalis. Taxonomy for Habroichthys orientalis according to Fossilworks.org. Diagnosis according to Su, 1959 p. 205: “A Peltopleurus with rather slenderly fusiform body. Head rather small, its length is less than the maximum depth of the body and being about one 4,5th of the total length. External skull-bones smooth. Posterior part of maxilla somewhat triangular in shape. Operculum slightly larger than suboperculum. Preoperculum vertical. Anal fin larger and with longer base than that of the dorsal. Origin of the dorsal fin slightly in front of that of the anal fin. Flank with longitudinal row of greatly deepened scales, covering up to three fourths of depth of body.   14. This one is a new Keichousaurus that I bought and I know there are a lot of overly restored or painted fossils. I see a repair line going through the body and I think at least some part of the fossil is real.. but anyone can figure out which part is painted or not? And does anyone know what those round impressions are? Is this a impression of a shoes or something?

    Plant fossil?

    Hi, this specimen is from Guizhou of China. It is Triassic. Any idea what kind of plant is that? There are not many plant fossils from Guizhou where you all know has a rich collection of of Keichousaurus hui and other Triassic marine reptile fossils instead.
  17. Hello all! I just wanted to share a Keichousaurus I got in the mail today. It was an Easter gift to myself. It is an acid prepped specimen. I was a little worried about it but it looks excellent! The only noticeable paint is on the calcite line connecting the neck vertebrae together, which I have no problems with. Otherwise it looks complete, with all of its toes intact, and I wanted to share, because I am excited about it. I included pictures. There are a few tiny teeth in its mouth, but they didn't show up on camera. If you see anything off with it that I haven't noticed, please let me know. Thank you all!

    This is from Xingyi of Guizhou in which Keichousaurus is found. It looks like a plant fossil and at the back is fossil of crinoids. Any idea if it is a plant fossil and what plant is that?

  24. This species is also known under the name T. hsui. The discussion about whether this is T. hsui or T. caudex seems to be still going on. Diagnosis from Hagdorn et al. 2015, p. 16: "Cup cryptodicyclic with five infrabasals and five basals; basals almost completely concealed in column pit; radials with low trapezoidal exposed aboral side and outward inclined facet with strings of granules separated by grooves (fossulae); radial articular facet and all brachial articulations ligamentary (granosyzygial). Primibrachial 2 axillary, secundibrachial 2 axillary in juveniles, in adults second arm branching after indefinite number of irregularly biserial secundibrachials. In juveniles four isotomously branching arms which constitute the 20 major arms of adults. In adults, indefinite number of endotomously branching tertiary armlets; arm branching starting at outer arms of each ray. Armlets may branch again at distal axillaries with aboral inflation or spine. Arms biserial. Brachial articulations granosyzygial with strings of granules separated by fossulae opening at equidistant circular pores along aboral sutures. Arms pinnulate after second branching. First pinnular shorter than second, with muscular articulation to brachial. Proximal and medial pinnulars with serrated margins, distal pinnulars with blade-shaped spines. Tegmen with polygonal plates, anal tube short with polygonal, aborally inflated plates around anal opening. Functional cup enlarged by means of tegminal plates extending between proximal arms, forming polygonal interbrachials and five large rhomboidal interradials inserting between interradial sutures. Interradials already present in juveniles of less than 10 mm crown height. No mouth visible; small perforated tegminal platelets at the base of free arms. Column long to very long, proximally with distinct nodals, noditaxes with up to four series of internodals. Nodals without cirri. Columnals low, circular to elliptical, granosyzygial, with multiradiate rows of granules that may be arranged as sets of chevrons; number of granule rows increasing toward the margin by bifurcation and intercalation. Intercolumnal grooves (fossulae) between granule rows with equidistant circular pore openings leading to sets of channels (tubuli) running through proximal and medial column; set of five primary tubuli surrounding lumen of central canal. Terminal column with extremely low columnals with articulated anastomosing radicular cirri, articulate facets of cirrals multiradiate." Identified by oilshale.
