Greetings all, I will be staying in Gulf Shores AL in March (9th-13th) and was wondering if anyone had any fossil hunting advice for the area? What laws do I need to remember? Best time to walk the beach for fossils? What kind of fossils are typically found there? Most of the info I've found is for creeks, but it's a beach trip with family. Thanks in advance!

Hello, I found this along an eroded wall where a prehistoric occupation layer was present along the Lavaca River in Jackson county, Texas. This section of river feeds directly into Lavaca Bay. Hoping this might be a vertebra belonging to an eel, there are few accounts of early people eating eels. Appreciate the help!

More Fossils I found on my way to and from class during college in Starkville, Mississippi. This one is a material of which I found a LOT. This is maybe 50-60 mm in length? It piqued my interest there were so many sleek, shiny brown stones. There was also marcasite in this chalk bed. The Marcasite was a similar color when oxidized. Not sure if that helps with anything... This piece is actually filled with a softer material which breaks down like dried clay. I tried cleaning it out, but it was stubborn. Any ideas?

I found this tooth the other day and it actually took me a minute to even flip it over and realize that it was a tooth! It's almost perfectly smooth & hollow in the backside.. any explanation as to what is going on here? And yes the tooth is in rough condition. Front and back view

I know if probably gets annoying but I have so much and know so little I have moved from the shells because I have great reference points now. So to the rocks.. (rock 1) this one is about 2 feet long and there seems to be a couple of things going on here, but I'm not quite sure what. I'm not sure if that inprint is anything but a hole.. I can not tell (Rock 2) I'm pretty sure I see a couple of prints in this one but I am not sure what they are , imprint is about 4 inches top to bottom. Thanks

*Update*I am a little slow sometimes but I noticed as I was photographing these just how similar they are! Well they look like a match to me, even the break in the shell seems to match... is this something really special? Like something to get checked at a museum? Especially if one half was used as an artifact? Sorry I have lots of questions. Okay so I found this shell a while ago and had forgotten about it until @tmaier said one of the oyster shells I had looked like it was possibly used as a mortar... Anyway! I found this again today (i had tossed it under the house) and I am so glad I did because when i cleaned off all the sand built up this is what it looks like! It is in way better shape than the other one... I really like this one. Can anyone ID?
