Any chance this Mammoth hair is authentic?
dontom posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I purchased this mammoth hair about 10 or so years ago. I was just wondering if it’s really mammoth hair or not. Thanks for any info. -
I was doing an initial cleaning of this piece to categorize, label and store for future preparation. I do this by brushing the loose dirt off with a natural bristled paint brush and then a quick cleaning with my dust collector to pick up some of the finer particles. This time, while using the dust collector, a little surprise popped out. My first thought was tube worm, well preserved and free enough for the suction to pull it out. Thankfully it didn’t detach! I was wondering if this is a common occurrence. Has anyone else experienced this? And do you agree that it’s most likely a tube worm? thanks! -Sean apologies for the standard measuring tape. I’ll get my act together…

I had this rock and the top broke off and there was a hair imbedded in the rock

Not sure where this came from exactly to begin with but I got it from a friend whose next door neighbor had passed away who used to be a geology teacher at a local school I guess his wife wanted the dirt and the rock pile gone so my friend needed the dirt and let me grab a bunch of the rocks. I no longer have this rock so have to go by memory, I gave it to my dentist because it resembled teeth and a small jaw bone when the top came off. The interesting thing is there was a hair imbedded in the rock where it fractured. It was not fractured when I got it and it was definitely part of the rock but not sure if you can see it in the pictures. The pictures are of all angles of this rock and of it apart as well. It fit in my hand perfectly and I have small hands to give you an idea. The rock was hard but not brittle even when fractured. Kind of like a lava rock but not exactly. -
Hey everyone! Hope this finds you well and safe! I have had this Woolly Mammoth hair for a while now, but I’m wondering if it’s genuine? It states it was from Taimyr, Siberia. Any response is appreciated! Thanks!

How common is Wolly Mammoth hair? I don't have a specific auction to point out but I commonly see Mammoth hair listed on auction sites. Most of them from sellers with really good feedback. Is this stuff common enough that most of these auctions are legit or are the majority of the auctions available fakes?

I found this one in my dad's stuff. It looks like it has some kind of hair and bugs in it. It's a yellowish/orange stone or glass. Feels more like a stone but can see through it so I don't know.

Heya, Skye and I received this as a wedding gift and we're wondering if it really is mammoth hair, or is it yak? Or even fibrous plant material? We're both scratching our heads as to whether it actually is even hair. Forgot a pic.

I'm hoping some of you have experience with the company and product my question is about. Can anyone tell me if this item looks like authentic Mammoth Fur/hair? I don't know anything about it except that most stuff advertised is actually Yak fur. The dealer has perfect e-bay feedback with over 2200 replies, and apparently she works fossil shows. The colors in this photo are very accurate to what I see when I look at it in my home under a daylight lamp. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I don't know if posting a link to e bay or mentioning the dealer by user ID is allowed, so I will wait to hear from you guys before doing that. Thanks in advance!
