Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows what species or any other identifying features that might help me obtain some raw material similar to the fossils Rolex used for their fossil stone dial watches they used to make. I assume this is some species of small sea creatures but I have yet to locate similar material. I like the very fine texture and it’s perfect for inlay material for stone mosaics.

Good morning, I was referred to this site and needed help identifying an unusual rock that seems to he growing something from the inside out and it's getting larger. It has a dark red color with a metallic grey on one spot and the other spot is dull Grey but with dark red in it as well. I used a flash on a few of the pics to get different views of it. It's super heavy as well It's so strange. I'm hoping someone can help me out here on this site. If I did this wrong, I apologize. Thank you very much everyone.

Help! What is this? Botryoidal Hematite? A-A Basalt? Or WORSE?
Jellybean07 posted a topic in Rocks & Minerals
I found this in Starkville, MS and assumed it's ah-ah basalt, but was looking up different random minerals and "uraninite" came up. This couldn't possibly be a raw form of that, could it? They all came from the same place, a chalk-based cretaceous seabed. There was also marcasite in the chalk, not pictured. Some have some iridescence on the black glistening places, reminding me of iridescent hematite. I would love to learn what you all think! Thank you for your time- 23 replies

Found this earlier today in Hamilton, Ontario. It was next to railway tracks, so at some point it was brought there with other gravel. Would really appreciate if anybody could help figure out what it is. Thanks

Hello all, my son came home with this in his sea shell bag. We were on our annual family vacation to Daufuskie island in South Carolina. It is believed that he found it on the Bloody Point beach. It’s is light weight as far as not a rock. Given the rich history of the area if it is human, I’d like to make sure it’s handled with respect by us. I’ve tried a couple of different searches, but haven’t been successful and to be honest, this really isn’t my thing as far as experienced in researching. Any suggestions for where to start again in identifying it would be very helpful. Thank you kindly, Jennie

Hello! Today I accidentally found some stones, which I assume to be Quartz, considering, in the same region I had found normal Quartz. But both minerals look rather beautiful and I wondered, what they could be? I googled it, of course and am not sure, whether they (or one) is a Jesper and the other one a Chalcedony? I hope someone of you can help me

These items were found in some rock brought in from a local quarry. I am in Muskogee, Ok. I still need help with formations. Someone kindly posted a link to a geological site with formations but didn't know what to do or how to apply that information to my specimens. #1 appears to have four different types of plant or bark. Two on each side with what appears to be some shells or sea life forms in between. #2 Is just super cool looking to me. Don't know what they are. #3 is what appears to be an imprint of a plant or tree. It was suggested cycad? #4 is small tiny black dots. Took pictures with better phone. Will you let me know if you can see the pictures better on your viewing end? As always thank you so much.

Hi - Please forgive me if I have violated many rules. I am not tech savvy. Nor was my deceased dad. We hunted many shark teeth, old bottles and arrowheads together. He always told me that the object in the attached pictures is dinosaur poop. Is it? Thanks for your help. If you are unable to tell I will gladly take more pictures. He grew up and hunted in Maryland so I assume that he found this in MD but I my be wrong as he loved fossil hunting and travelled extensively. Thanks a bunch!

This rock has been in my garden for as long as I've renter my place in San Diego Ca. I just noticed these indented areas today and am curious if this could be a fossil. There is a small sea shell in the other side of the rock so I'm guessing it came from the ocean. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

If anybody can give me the possible price of this or any information of it would be appreciated. ALSO I have found some sort of shell, I have no clue if it was a fossilized animal, seashell, or just a rock but please give information on that aswell.- 21 replies

Hi everyone. My 4 year old boys found what I think might be a fossil on our first hunt together. Well I hope it is. I'm a complete amateur and tried to research but it's beyond my knowledge where to start! It would be great if you could help me find out what this might be so I can get some pictures up for my boys. Thanks in advance!
